Presidential Unit Citation

The Presidential Unit Citation is awarded to crews of the Starfleet of the United Federation of Planets and co-belligerent nations for extraordinary heroism in action against an armed enemy occurring on or after 22 February 2161. The crew must display such gallantry, determination, and esprit de corps in accomplishing its mission under extremely difficult and hazardous conditions as to set it apart and above other units participating in the same campaign. The degree of heroism required is the same as that which would warrant award of a Distinguished Service Star to an individual. Extended periods of combat duty or participation in a large number of operational missions, either ground or space is not sufficient. This award will normally be earned by crews that have participated in single or successive actions covering relatively brief time spans. It is not reasonable to presume that entire crews can sustain Distinguished Service Star performance for extended time periods except under the most unusual circumstances. Only on rare occasions will a unit larger than a single vessel or station crew qualify for award of this decoration.

The emblem is worn by all members of a cited organization and is considered an individual decoration for persons in connection with the cited acts and may be worn whether or not they continue as members of the organization. Other personnel may wear this decoration while serving with an organization to indicate the unit has been awarded the Presidential Unit Citation.

In 2376, President Kor bestowed the unit citation upon Station 419's crew with the following announcement:

"Attention to orders, let it be known that on Stardate 53148.4 the Office of the President of the United Federation of Planets does hereby acknowledge gratefully the service and excellence of the crew of Station 419-Upsilon. For valor and gallantry during the period of martial unrest known as the Dominion War the crew of Station 419-Upsilon was pivotal in the coordination of joint operations in the Beta Quadrant between the members of the Alpha Quadrant alliance and with skill and courage deprived the Dominion of victory in the Dulcais Sector and beyond. In recognition of these efforts, the Office of the President formally cites the crew serving aboard the station for any time between October 1st, 2373 and January 1st, 2376 and grants them the right to wear a Presidential Unit citation on their uniforms and have such noted to their permanent service jacket. Likewise, the Station itself has been commended and from this day forward until the decommissioning of this station, all crew serving aboard as permanent party billeted crew may wear this citation so as to maintain the sense of unity of purpose that has been displayed so often by this crew. Your Federation, and your president salute you."
