Fade in on the Operations Center of Station 419-Upsilon, the main viewscreen thereof, with a cutaway view of the entire station similar to an Engineering Core's Master Situation Display, but bigger. With only a few holdouts, most of the sections of the cutaway view are limned in green -- and those holdouts, one by one, seem to join the herd. A Chief Petty Officer sitting next to LTJG Lopez at Operations calls out, "Estimate 35 seconds until all clear, Commander."
Goodwin nods his head once. "Thank you, Chief," says the second officer. "Mister Avery, please open a channel to Main Engineering, so I can get the Chief on the line for this. Mister Lopez, sound the bosun's whistle so I can advise we may be experiencing some power fluctuations over the next little bit."
Shamash brought up his Console with several oscilloscopic waveforms displayed on it, a bar graph dancing below them. He is in monitoring mode, curious as what the changes will bring. At the announcment of the CPO, he sets his system to live status, leaning back to watch.
Lopez looks over her console attentively, as the main viewscreen slowly shifts. "Aye sir," she says. The all too familiar tone pipes itself cleanly through the communications prompts and across the computer's aural outputs.
. o O Kran'dok thinks, "Well that was rather rude. I had a fairly low opinion of him and his species before, but that just dropped another notch. Why is it that Idrani seems to be the only alright one?"
Avery acknowledges, even as she initiates the channel, "Yes, sir." She speaks again, "Ops to Main Engineering. Lieutenant Nevaren."
Avery taps her com badge. "Lieutenant JG Avery to Engineering Core."
Over Avery's com badge, someone says, "Lieutenant Nevaren here."
Crayn glances up at the viewport while he keeps tactical at optimum.
Avery taps her com badge and terminates transmission.
Avery taps the com terminal. "Lieutenant JG Avery to Engineering Core."
Over the terminal, someone says, "Nevaren here."
Goodwin nods his head once to Lopez and glances to his terminal, clearing his throat to announce over the Station communication system.
Shamash keeeps his main attention already on the display just listening to what Goodwin has to say.
A bosun's whistle sounds followed by the voice of Lt. Commander Goodwin. "Attention all hands. This is the second officer. The Station will be undergoing testing of the main power system during the next while. Station residents may experience difficulties with some Station systems during this time. Station Command apologizes for any inconvenience this test may cause as Starfleet works to constantly improve its systems. An announcement will be made when the test is concluded. That is all."
Crayn nods to himself as he keeps an eye on his console.
The Chief Petty Officer in the second Ops chair speaks up. "All decks now green for switching to aux power, Commander, Lieutenant." As he adds the last, he turns his head to give Avery an additional smile and nod.
"Mister Avery, give Lieutenant Nevaren the green light for changing the intermix ratio in the core," says Goodwin with a fairly confident nod.
. o O Goodwin thinks, "And let's hope for no explosions."
Seated at Ops I, Lopez switches off the transmission at the conclusion, on the part that says 'that is all' because thats usually when the officer in the command well would like things cut off.
Avery returns the smile to the Chief Petty Officer, and then she's all business as she relays the message.
Into the com terminal, Avery says, "Lieutenant Nevaren, you've got the go ahead for changing the core's intermix ratio."
GAME: Avery contests her Shipboard Systems/Engineering vs Moderate and Succeeds.
Over the terminal, Nevaren says, "I read you, Lietnenant. All station systems are switched to Auxillary?"
Crayn sits quietly at his station.
Into the com terminal, Avery says, "Yes, sir. All systems are switched to Auxiliary."
Over the terminal, Nevaren says, "Switch to Auxillary has been verbally confirmed, Lieutenant, and registered on my system. Activating new intermix configuration and balancing of trace elements on my mark. Three. Two. One. /Mark/."
. o O Goodwin thinks, "No explosion, no explosion, no explosion..."
Lights dim throughout the station, slightly, shortly after Goodwin's stationwide hail.
Goodwin nods his head, slowly, as there is no immediate explosion (apparently) following the change-over. "Mister Lopez, how are the fusion generators handling the load? Mister Avery, how are we with the new intermix? Are we all...mixed and ready to begin change-over?"
Shamash monitors the output on his screen, aside from a small spike where the initial shift to aux power was done, it is all very quiet and still stable.
GAME: Lopez contests her Shipboard Systems vs Routine and Succeeds.
Lopez ticks her fingers across the panel, succinctly answering, "Looks good from where I'm sitting, Sir."
Avery watches her console, checking the readings. "The new intermix is flooding the chamber now, and is within safe parameters. It should be ready shortly to start switching over the systems."
Crayn still sits quietly at his console, keeping everything ready.
Goodwin nods his head once, settling back for the wait. "Let me know when we're clear to begin change-over. Mister Shamash, we're going to kick off with internal/external sensor arrays, so stand by for diagnostics and a test sweep."
. o O Lopez thinks, "Seems to be going well."
"Preliminary checks are already running, Sir", responds Shamash, "systems green, decrease in efficiency within the norm for running on auxillary power. Sciences is ready, Sir."
Lopez stands by at her station, easing up just slightly to get a look at the CPO's console to compare against the output on her own.
GAME: Avery contests her Shipboard Systems/Engineering vs Routine and Succeeds.
Avery taps commands into her console. "We're ready, sir, and sensors are now tied back into main power."
"Mister Shamash, let's start with a level four diagnostic on the sensor array and a sweep of local traffic," suggests Goodwin from the main chair. "Mister Lopez, our power load looking steady?"
GAME: Lopez contests her Shipboard Systems vs Routine and Succeeds.
"Sensor sweep in progress, starting in the galactic north and going full circle... I have maximum output, active scans scheduled at 140 mark 30 and at 20 mark 90.", Shamash replies, implementing the first set of orders, doing the diag once this is done.
Over the terminal, Nevaren says, "Lieutenant Avery, I am reading a slight drop in power readings from the Sensor Tie ins. If you are reading it as well, don't worry. It's to be expected."
GAME: Shamash contests his Shipboard Systems/Sensors vs Routine and Succeeds.
GAME: Shamash contests his Systems Engineering/Sensors vs Routine and Succeeds.
And Lopez follows this announcement from Nevaren fairly closely with her own input, "Fairly standard for the integration process, sir. Little decreases, changes in the flow here and there."
Into the com terminal, Avery says, "Yes, sir. Lieutenant Shamash's sensor sweeps aren't making too severe a power draw. Everything is within expected parameters."
"Let's bring up communications, then, Mister Avery," says Goodwin after a moment of consideration. "And see how that goes." He drums his fingers lightly on his armrest, watching the display on the main screen.
Shamash, in between looking at his console "Confirmed. Decrease in coverage as expected, no abnormalies found, diagnostics still running. We will be able to switch to internal sensors shortly."
GAME: Avery contests her Shipboard Systems/Engineering vs Routine and Succeeds.
Lopez reports, turning her head to angle her voice toward the command well, "Comms are switched, Sir."
Avery brushes her fingers lightly across the console once more, "Bringing up communications....now."
Crayn keeps an eye on his own console as well.
"We're going to move on over to internal sensors," nods Goodwin. "Mister Crayn, let's bring up security internals, and then we'll get the Chief to run the internal diagnostic sensors."
. o O Goodwin thinks, "So far, so good."
Shamash says, "External sensor test concluded. no abnormalties found. diagnostics completed. Ready to go to internal sensors, Sir. I programmed a deck to deck sweep, with maximum efficiency scans on the concourse levels."
Into the com terminal, Goodwin says, "Chief, let's bring on up the internal diagnostic sensors, now. Mister Crayn will be bringing on up the security internals, as well."
Lopez's forhead furrows just slightly, "Sir?" she prompts, and sits up a little straighter, "Permission to test outgoing communications... we may be switched, but I'd like to look for function?"
Over the terminal, Nevaren says, "Aye, Sir. Levels are looking within parameters so I am accessing Internal Diagnostic Sensor control and bringing them online. On my mark... ... ... Mark."
Crayn tap-taps... checking out minor spots until he's called upon.
Crayn slowly brings on security systems one by one, scanning each system. "Aye, sir."
GAME: Crayn contests his Shipboard Systems/Security vs Routine and Marginally Fails.
Goodwin glances towards Lopez. "I'm getting there, I'm getting there. Mister Lopez, let local traffic know we will be testing weapons and defensive systems shortly, and this is only a test." A beat. "And then let's hold up and make sure we're functional green on those last systems. Mister Crayn?"
Into the com terminal, Goodwin says, "Chief, how are we with the function on the internal diagnostics? Are you getting readings back from your suites?"
Shamash begins his sensors sweep, the display changing slowly from level 1 onwards, going down. At times, small blips come to life on the dislay, whatever Shamash is scanning for to test the system with. He looks over to Crayn as Goodin asks a question, otherwise proceeding as scheduled.
GAME: Lopez contests her Shipboard Systems/Communications vs Routine and Marginally Fails.
Over the terminal, Nevaren says, "Sir, I am getting readings now. Internal Sensors seem to be drawing a little more power then usual, though not dangerously so. Check with whomever is on the Security Console and make sure they aren't using too heavey a setting on sensors. Have them reduce the power level. That may be what is causing the Internals to read a little hot since the new powerflow, which DOES eem to be better then the last intermix solution, may mean some systems run with more power at normal settings. In fact, to err on the side of caution, as we bring the systems back on line, do all of them at a level lower then usual. Beyond that we are still in the green.."
The shortish officer from Miami presses her lips together, and leans forward over the console. She speaks clearly to relay the advisory... winces and rubs the space under her ear as the channel crackles back at her. Feedback.
Crayn checks the system. "Everything looks green from here, Sir." He hears Nevaren and follows his suggestion, slowly lowering his power level.
. o O Dane thinks, "she lays one hand on his and it'll be her last."
. o O Lopez thinks, "Mother of... pearl. Thanks for the heads up, there, chief."
GAME: Crayn contests his Security/Security Systems vs Routine and Succeeds.
. o O Dane feels a little tention and tries to hide it quickly, a hint of anger also peeks to the surface.
And, indeed, after a moment or two, the NCO next to Lopez confirms: "We had a little feedback there, Commander, but it looks like the ships in our space got the message all clear. Reading back 19 responses, all A-O.K."
. o O Dane thinks, "Just stop looking Mir, he won't betray you it's no in his character."
. o O Dane tires to calm herself down and ignore what's going on behind her.
"All right, then. Mister Lopez, let's dial it down a bit on the comm array, though," says Goodwin, pursing his lips. "Mister Crayn, we're coming to you next for our defensive systems. After the Chief gives us the clear, we'll go with shields - let's keep in mind the lowered power thing."
Into the com terminal, Goodwin says, "All right, Chief. Looks like we're all caught up. We'll move on to shields. Let us know when the Lieutenant's clear to put them up."
Shamash works the scan slowly down the levels, he has nothing to report at this time.
Over the terminal, Nevaren says, "Aye, sir. She should be clear now."
. o O Revere thinks, "Er... what was that?"
GAME: Shamash contests his Shipboard Systems/Sensors vs Moderate and Succeeds.
Lopez answers breezily, "With pleasure, Sir," she answers Goodwin, making some adjustments at the console.
. o O Dane thinks, "So stay away from mine."
Crayn nods. "Aye, sir.. but shouldn't we test the internal security sensors first? To coordinate with what Lt. Shamash is doing?"
"Let's give the newly reduced power on the internals a shot," says Goodwin. "Mister Lopez, let's populate our internal personnel map from comm-signals. Stand by for shield tests, Mister Crayn."
GAME: Lopez contests her Shipboard Systems/Mission Ops vs Moderate and Succeeds.
On Shamash's sensor display, a few levels light up the display, beginning right here with the XOs office on Level 1, then some of the personal quarters of officers with a rather high blinking around LTJGs Foster & Lanie's quarters as well as on Level 15, the Andorian lodge. As the sweep goes down the levels, another bright flash comes from level 18, opposite the Infirmary, then nothing as he goes down from there to the cargo holds.
GAME: Lopez contests her Administration vs Moderate and Succeeds.
. o O Sendyen thinks, "Ah, that's right. The Federation crews its facilties with counselors as well. In case the strain of space is too much for their weak, gutless minds."
"78.... 110..." counts off Lopez as the combadges begin to register from rapid-fire pinging of the combadges. "Huh," she says with a squint. "We're... only about half-fnished, but there are some names... not showing up. Like the Xo, adn Ensigns T'il and Davis..."
Crayn nods to Goodwin. "Aye, sir. Standing by." He looks over as Lopez makes her statement.
GAME: Lopez contests her Shipboard Systems/Mission Ops vs Moderate and Marginally Fails.
"Maybe some relays are frying, Lieutenant?" asks the CPO next to her. "I'm also now getting near-space sensor pings on 23 vessels, not the 19 I just had. Can we get a diagnostic on this?"
"Yeah. Mister Lopez, let's start running some fours on the sensor array," says Goodwin, shaking his head. "Mister Shamash, take the long-range, Mister Lopez, you can handle local, Mister Crayn, work on internals. Split up the work. We'll move up to level threes if this doesn't pin it down, but that'll require getting some teams out for minor manual verification." He seems thoughtful, really.
Into the com terminal, Goodwin says, "Chief, we're going to be running some diagnostics on the sensor arrays. We're getting inconsistent readings and we want to stop and check them out. Any ideas on causes?"
Over the terminal, Nevaren says, "I am looking at them now sir but I don't see anything wrong with the sesor system at all. Are you sure you are reading them right?"
"Aye Sir", Shamash mentions, signing off the internal sensor sweep that to his knowledge worked out, activating a diag in the background and turning back to external sensors. "Modifying my prior test pattern in quasi random structure. implementing."
Goodwin's com badge chirrups. "Ayshala to Lt. Commander Goodwin."
Goodwin taps his com badge. Goodwin sounds surprised and a bit hesitant. "Operations. Go ahead?"
Over Goodwin's com badge, Ayshala sounds rather freaked out. "I'm sorry to bother you, Sir, but Mr. Kran'dok asked me to contact security, but I did not know anyone in security to call. He asked that Security be sent to the Garden, that there is something there."
GAME: Shamash contests his Shipboard Systems/Engineering vs Routine and Succeeds.
Over the terminal, Nevaren says, "Sir, I just had Lieutenant Krylow double check my readings on a seperate console and he concurs with me. We don't see anything out of the ordinary at this time."
. o O Nabrun thinks, "Wonderful. And now I have a paranoid schizophrenic to add into the mix. A stroke, phantom shapes and paranoia."
. o O Nabrun is worried, though slightly exasperated.
Lopez shakes her head, "Sir, I'm still registering six or so missing, with the scan complete. Either six combadges just shorted out, or we're missing people."
Crayn nods and grimaces as he runs his fingers over the console, opening up a second window. "Aye, sir." he says.
GAME: Crayn contests his Shipboard Systems vs Routine and Succeeds.
Into his com badge, Goodwin sounds...confused. But still wary. And, as such, ends up stumbling over his words. "Well, Ms. Neirama, there's always a duty officer in Station Security, which you can hail by location, not just name."
GAME: Crayn contests his Shipboard Systems/Tactical vs Routine and Succeeds.
. o O Green thinks, "Seeing things. Too much caffeine, Tay."
Over Goodwin's com badge, Ayshala isn't sounding too steady. "I TRIED that," she replies. "I DID. It didn't work."
And that's when the Chief Petty Officer at Ops II says "Commander, we are now reading damage control triggers on the communications transceiver arrays in arcs 220 to 265 on the XY. We're communications blind in that forty-five degree arc, Sir." His voice has the slight up-creep of building tension.
Lopez says, "My scans show Lieutenant Green having just entered the general vicinty of the Observation Garden, Sir."
And here's where Goodwin does the commanding officer task shuffle. After a quick reply to Ayshala, he turns back to Ops. "Mister Lopez, let's try to piggy-back a signal off of a local friendly ship outside the blind to tell the traffic inside the blind to move to outside. I don't like the idea of us not being in contact with one whole arc of traffic."
Into his com badge, Goodwin says, "Ms. Neirama, Ops has confirmed that Lieutenant Green is on site. The matter is in hand. Is there anything else Ops can assist with?"
Over Goodwin's com badge, Ayshala's voice is still shaky. "No, thank you."
Goodwin's com badge clicks as Ayshala drops off channel. The channel closes.
"Long range sensors report 23 vessels in the vicinity of the station, diagnostics check out okay." Shamash reports, frowning.
The terminal chirrups. "Ensign Revere to Operations."
Into the com terminal, Goodwin says, "Chief, we've got damage control triggers on comm transceivers from two-two-oh to two-six-five. Any idea what's going on out there?"
GAME: Shamash has the merit of Mathematical Ability at 3.
The terminal clicks as Revere drops off channel. The channel closes.
GAME: Shamash contests his Computer+A vs Moderate and Succeeds.
Goodwin's com badge chirrups. "Ensign Revere to Lt. Commander Goodwin."
Goodwin taps his com badge. "Operations."
Lopez complies with her orders, only to report in bweilderment, "Outboard arc, from 100-140 degrees in the XY, away...." Lopez sits more forward in her console.
Over Goodwin's com badge, Revere says, "Uh, well, sir, there's some things down here in the garden that... well, they're invisible if you look at them, but we've had several people spot them out of their peripheral vision. So, unless we're all suffering from some new form of space madness, we've got some... humanoid -somethings- down here."
Over the terminal, Nevaren says, "I don't understand this, sir.. DIagnostics are now confirming blown arrays in that arc... and another 40 or so degree arc about 90 degrees off is starting to strain. But I can't see why... Power levels are normal."
. o O Lopez thinks, "Okay, think... the problem is in comms. We had interferance. And now blind sports in the comm-array, and people are seeing humanoid somethings in the Garden. Feedback, maybe?"
Over the terminal, Nevaren says, "Sir, We have just confirmed that the damage is external to the system, no internal. The power flow seems to be fine."
Crayn looks awkwardly.. "Diagnostics check out. Shields are on standby." He looks up.. "What's to say that these are all malfunctions?"
"Confirmed," says the Chief Petty Officer. "Two arcs of arrays down, Sir, and I'm still showing 23 ships out there, several of them not responding to the order to vacate our comm-blind arcs."
GAME: Shamash spends a courage point.
GAME: Shamash contests his Shipboard Systems/Sensors+A vs Challenging and Succeeds.
"Apparently nothing," says Goodwin, his concern level escalating. "Mister Crayn, let's accelerate that shield test. Put shields up. Chief, I want local traffic control shut down - I can't keep shuffling people from arc to arc. Do we have any work bees deployed that can take a look at the arrays? Or a friendly ship in a position to get some imaging on them for us?" A frown. "Mister Crayn, get me internal security scans on the Observation Garden. Mister Shamash, any unusual external energy or bioreadings on the scope?"
Into his com badge, Goodwin says, "We're working on it, Mister Revere. Stand by."
Goodwin taps the com terminal. "Lt. Commander Goodwin to Main Engineering."
Over Goodwin's com badge, Revere is silent for a moment before responding. "Er... aye, sir. Standing by."
Into the com terminal, Goodwin says, "We're working on it, Chief. Stand by."
Shamash goes over the scans, working from one sensor reading to the next. "I have tracked down the ...sensor glitch.. or ghosts ..or additional four ships.. whatever shows up on sensors, at vectors 49, 78, 105 and 132" which places them all in the arcs which currently experience malfunction in the com traffic. "Scanning the area now at full intensity. Nothing yet... wait." pause "Sir. Unless Sensors are also malfunctioning in the same area of space as the comm array is, which is unlikely as they are separate systems, I must accept this reading as valid. In which case, i pinpointed repetitive weapons discharge, aimed at this station. I.. can not find out anything more with the reduced efficency of sensors but.." he inahles deeply "Reccommend raising shields and aborting the experiment to bring the station back to full power...

The terminal clicks as Krylow drops off channel. The channel closes.
Goodwin taps the com terminal. "Lt. Commander Goodwin to Main Engineering."
The terminal chirrups. "Lt. Commander Goodwin to Main Engineering."
. o O Ghorev thinks, "If I hear a single Andorian heartbeat, I am going to have to shoot first and apologize later. If that means the linens, so be it. I have not come this far to be this helpless."
Daedalus taps the com terminal and terminates transmission.
Goodwin taps the com terminal. "Lt. Commander Goodwin to Main Engineering."

. o O Dane thinks, "This gets better and better, what will it be next I wonder."
. o O Revere starts to doubt his sanity.
. o O Revere thinks, "What if we are all nuts?"
. o O Lopez thinks, "Peekaboo."
Lopez reports toward the center well, "I ran a scan on lifesigns. All personnel accounted for, at present. No combadges missing. However, Sir, we seem to have about -three dozen- more than we should. Granted, we have a lot of visitors, but the current logs says we've got extras now that we didn't have before hand."
Crayn listens to both Goodwin and Shamash, raising shields. "Do we have any kind of signature on those contacts?" He runs both hands frantically, trying to get a sweep of the Garden.. "I swear, if I see crystal, I'm gonna need a new uniform..."
"A good thing," says the NCO at Ops II, "that combadges are accounted for. As of 12 seconds ago, they're all we have, Sirs. Main internal communications has gone down. Whatever hit our arrays isn't stopping there."
"Are we, what, under attack by the Lilliputians?" Goodwin now sounds, well, just a bit exasperated at all of this. "And can anyone get me imaging on those arrays?" He's staring at the viewscreen and the schematic that's there. "Put those vectors on screen - split it up. What's out there?" He sighs heavily at the report from Ops II. "Sound yellow alert, Chief." For the zillionth time in the last week. "Mister Lopez, use the fusion reactors to carry the defensive system load."
Goodwin says, "Computer, yellow alert."
The computer acknowledges Goodwin with a bleep.
The yellow alert lights flash throughout the station.
Over Goodwin's com badge, Revere says, "Sir, just to add a general update: whatever they are, they're out of phase with us. I just saw one walk through a bench."
. o O Green thinks, "The paperwork on this one is gonna be /such/ a pain. Glad I don't have to write the incident report. Have fun with that one, Commander Goodwin."
. o O Lopez thinks, "But are they aware of us... and are they even a 'they'"
Into his com badge, Goodwin says, "Yeah. We're working on it, Mister Revere. Keep me updated, though."
. o O Kran'dok thinks, "/Sir/. It still bothers me to have to call him that. Of all the officers in the fleet, they give him that promotion."
Goodwin's com badge chirrups. "Lieutenant Nevaren to Lt. Commander Goodwin."
. o O Nabrun thinks, "I officially object, Commander. You don't need to be shooting at whatever this is in the Training Center. You need to be in the Infirmary."
Walters steps into the bustle of Ops from the corridor. The door slides shut with a whisper.
Walters has arrived.
GAME: Lopez contests her Shipboard Systems+A vs Moderate and Fails.
Goodwin taps his com badge. "Goodwin. What's going on, Lieutenant?"
. o O Kran'dok thinks, "Well Ash seems to be dealing with this quite well. Wish I could be so care free about it."
. o O Green is amused.
Over Goodwin's com badge, Nevaren says, "I would like to ask the same thing, sir. We have lost internal comms. The power systems seem fine yet Krylow has told me he got word that we are receiving reports of injuries from a tetryon pulse. He thinks it may be coming from an external source. Perhaps a cloaked ship.""
. o O Green's amusement rapidly fades.
Shamash, after frantic consultation with the console output, mentions "We are under fire with tetryon particle surge weaponry. From the technique used, i say the vessels are partly cloaked. I change designation from ghost images to hostiles, designated one through four. We the source of the discharge still pinpointed, Sir."
. o O Fletcher thinks, "Okay, choices, choices...What to do? Okay, I know what to do."
. o O Revere thinks, "Well, so much for the not-hostile theory."
Lopez struggles, at her console, but doesn't flounder long before she makes her difficulty clear: "Sir," she says, "I need assistance from someone with more engineering experience... I don't have the training, otherwise to do this quickly,"
Walters runs in, completely out of uniform though in no way indecent, sweat streaming from his bow as he reacts to the siren of yellow alert. He sees Engineering 1 full and slips into Engineering 2 without a second thought, as he begins the process of pulling up damage reports and make sure emergency systems are responding properly.
Walters sits down at Engineering II.
Into his com badge, Goodwin says, "Can you explain what a tetryon pulse is? We have -- four possible hostiles outside as the source. Okay, more than possible."

Crayn checks his console.. "Shields are up, however only running on fusion right now.. Waiting to power up weapons. Internal scan shows three beings inside the Garden, besides our personnel."
Over Goodwin's com badge, Nevaren says, "Tetryons are supspace particles sir. They need to be slowed or spun by some method to actually appear in normal space. They're used in a wide range of weapons, cloaking systems, even some subspace systems."
Over Goodwin's com badge, Revere says, "Commander, I'm sorry to interrupt, but if and/or when you have time, we'd like to request that you use the station's sensors to help us track down these... whatever they ares so we can get a positive identification."
"Sir, we're now down a few sensor arrays, as well," says the NCO at Ops II, nervously.
. o O Kran'dok thinks, "Way to lead Lieutenant. I deferred to you before just taking action. You could have kept that authority rather than just given it up to play with your paints. We could use some decisive leadership here."
Finally: "Red alert. All hands to battle stations. Chief, contact the Captain and Commander." Goodwin gives in. "Mister Crayn, get me weapons locks on those vectors. Don't hide it. Mister Lopez, use what arrays we have and what locals we can relay off of to contact those vectors on all frequencies. Mister Crayn, I need both internal scans running to try to use containment fields on those intruders and your work on the tactical board."
Goodwin says, "Computer, red alert."
The computer acknowledges Goodwin with a bleep.
The red alert klaxon sounds throughout the station.
. o O Crayn thinks, "Want a pile of pressed latinum while I'm at it? I'll just wiggle me nose...."
. o O Krylow thinks, "Its like the Aegis, all over again. I didn't think I'd see anything like this again."
Into his com badge, Goodwin says, "Stand-by, Mister Revere."
Crayn taps the com terminal and terminates transmission.
Crayn taps the com terminal. "Lieutenant JG Crayn to Lieutenant JG Fletcher."
Daedalus taps the com terminal and terminates transmission.
Shamash sends his last readings over to Crayn by console to console transfer even as he tries to get a better fix, shutting down some other arrays to get a better gain on the vessels.
. o O Nabrun thinks, "I can justify this to myself. He's not going to leave the Training Center and he'd be better with his sight. We'd have a little more of a chance."
Crayn taps his com badge. "Lieutenant JG Crayn to Lieutenant JG Fletcher."
Lopez continues to lean into it as the klaxons screech, stabbing down a few sequences, "I've got auxiliary going to the weapons, also. I don't know if its going to hold," she says, tightly, moving on to the next set of orders, using one hand to tap the board of the NCO, without looking. "Steady on," she says, "Ops functions are -not- going down first... Keep at it."
Over Crayn's com badge, someone says, "Lieutenant JG Fletcher here."
Into his com badge, Crayn says, "Lieutenant.. Are you injured or in someway incapacitated?"
Over Crayn's com badge, Fletcher says, "No, there has been an incident in the Infirmary, a patient got out of control."
Walters frowns at the buzzes coming from his uncooperative station, and begins to try again, a look of determination coming over his face as he works the controls.
GAME: Walters spends a courage point.
Into his com badge, Crayn says, "Then let the doctors sedate the patient. It would be greatly appreciated if you could join us up at Ops, on the double if not sooner."
Over Crayn's com badge, Fletcher says, "On my way, Lieutenant. Fletcher out."
Crayn's com badge clicks as Fletcher drops off channel. The channel closes.
Crayn resets his com badge.
Crayn taps at the console quickly. He takes a steadying breath. "Commander, I've got Lt. Fletcher on his way up to handle the internal security. I'm working on bringing weapons online now." he uses the vectors that Shamash had sent to him to work on a lock.

. o O Fletcher thinks, "What is so important up there that they need me?"
Fletcher steps into the bustle of Ops from the corridor. The door slides shut with a whisper.
Fletcher has arrived.
And that's when all the consoles in the place light up like fireworks, and even through the warning klaxons, some kind of additional alert-like noise can be heard.
"Uh, Sir, Commander Ghorev's combadge is down, and so is main com. I can't raise him. Likewise, com-traffic's now so jammed with whatever that was that I can't raise the Captain, either."
And, well, there goes Goodwin's stress levels. "Mister Fletcher, I need you to run internal security to isolate and contain these intruders, let's call them." His voice is short, clipped. "Do I have a channel yet, Mister Lopez? Or at least a hail?"
Into his com badge, Goodwin says, "Chief, what's going on up here? My consoles look like Roman candles."
Over Goodwin's com badge, Revere says, "Er... sir? They just took off out of the garden like my dad was after them with a switch."
Shamash steps back from his console as it sputters. He moves back to asset the damage. "I can't give you anything just now.. Looks like a surge went through the console. Trying to assert the damage now.."
"Negative, Sir," she answers Goodwin, "-thats a negative. Nothing through whatever that was. Like trying to get a needle through duranium plating," she answers. "I don't know yet if it was an overload, or a deliberate attack."
C'est moi.
Over Goodwin's com badge, Nevaren says, "We just had a huge tetryon flux just washed over the station at 240 degrees on the XY axis. If it weren't for the shields having gone up, we'd have lost ALL sensor and communications arrays on that entire side of the station in a 180 degree arc. Shields show online, and weapons, too, both under aux power, at about 20 percent efficiency. Krylow has a theory of how we may affect these targets"
Into his com badge, Goodwin says, "Now is not the time for Mister Krylow to be reticent, Chief."
. o O Krylow thinks, "I'm not being reticent, Commander. That's Lieutenant Nevaren, thank you very much. I already shared it with him."
Walters brings his hands down from shielding his eyes and says, "Wow, this board is fried. I wonder if anything connected to the main grid is still up. Assessing structural integrity now, or trying to..." And he pokes at the board anyway, getting ready to disassemble it for answers if need be.
. o O Revere feels a bit queasy.
Crayn jumps at the sudden surge.. "Well.. sir.. whomever you wanna talk to, there's one less of now. I got a hard lock on all four vessels, and when I did... well, one exploded.." He kinda tries to lower his voice when he says the word 'exploded'... He hushes and listens for Krylow's surmise.
. o O Revere thinks, "Medical experimentation."

Over Goodwin's com badge, Nevaren says, "We are going to reconfigure the weapons, sir, to work on a metaphasic level."
Over Goodwin's com badge, Revere says, "Sir? We've met these things before. Can I upload the data with my findings to Operations?"

Into his com badge, Goodwin says, "Revere, yes. Chief, I'm not sure what that means, but if it'll work, do it."

Fletcher walks into Ops after being summoned up here by Crayn. As stuff starts to light up, orders are given to him. He moves towards the Security Station, at a decent clip. "Aye, Sir." He says. Once at the console, he does an internal security status check. "Sir, Internal Security check shows Commander Ghorev in the training center, defensive position, with Ensign Milosevic. Security has been advised that any officer who goes into the Training Center must identify themselves at once or risk being shot." He pauses, "As for the intruders, I can't get a lock, moving to fast but they seem to be fleeing."
Fletcher sits down at Security.
. o O Fletcher thinks, "What in the blue blazes of Starfleet is going on?"
Over Goodwin's com badge, Nevaren says, "It means that we are trying to make sure the weapons can actually hurt whatever is out there. The targets may not only be cloaked but phased as well."
Over Goodwin's com badge, Nevaren says, "Sir, we have reconfigured the phaser's variences."
Goodwin takes a look at the incoming feed, and then nods his head. "Well, I'd love to chat with them, but -- Mr. Crayn, fire. Mister Fletcher, let's get that lock, please."
Takamura steps into the bustle of Ops from the corridor. The door slides shut with a whisper.
Takamura has arrived.
GAME: Avery contests her Systems Engineering vs Moderate and Fails.
Over Goodwin's com badge, Nevaren says, "Sir.. We are going to shift the Shields from Auxillary to the main grid and modify them in a simlar way to the phasers. We will continue using the new intermix since all readings about the damages were externally sourced, not internal, and we may need the increased power for the shields."
Avery has been quiet all this time, analyzing the data, be remains quiet, as apparently nothing has come to light.
Into his com badge, Goodwin says, "All right, Chief. Go to it."
Walters turns from his console and announces, "The beings inside the ship are out of phase. If we remodulate ship structural integrity fields and containment fields with anti-tetryon particles, we might be able to deny the creatures the ability to phase through them, though it will take some time."
Crayn nods, placing a firing solution into the console.. "Those are the words I've been waiting to hear, Commander. Firing phasers...... now."
Fletcher nods, but is still facing the console. "Aye, Sir. Trying to establish a lock now." With that, his hands move over the console, trying to isolate the intruders and get a lock on them.
Takamura steps off the turbolift dressed casually with a paint kit over his shoulder. After a quick look around the room, he moves directly towards the Operations console.
GAME: Crayn contests his Shipboard Systems/Tactical+A vs Moderate and Succeeds.
Over Goodwin's com badge, Nevaren says, "Sir, have mister avery handle the power switching. We need four hands down here for the modifications."
And within a moment, it seems that Crayn's aim is true enough. Even with the drastically reduced power throughput caused by the use of auxiliary power and the metaphasic modifications, a thin lance of weak metaphasically shifted nadions lances out to 'tag' the nearest bogey, spinning in off course.
On top of the previous destruction, this seems to have gotten their attention. In response, there is a brief pause, as one by one -- the 'wounded' one last -- the three phase-shifted vessels disappear in small, compact, brilliant bursts of some kind of energy or another, simply winking out of existence, as if they'd never been.
Goodwin takes a deep breath as the ships bolt for it. "All stations, report," calls the second officer. "Mister Walters, start working. Lieutenant Avery, you heard the Chief. Anything, Mister Fletcher?"

Lopez pipes up from Ops I, hands still shifting over the board. "Sir, they're not on sensors. Just the... fast fading residuals. The airspace at least appears to be clear."

Walters's hands fly across his keyboard as he tries to push the systems to do his will.
Crayn makes a quick sweep. "They're gone.. All three of them. Now we need to pick up the ones still on-station." He goes back to internally scanning. "If we can get containment fields around them... Well, ones they can't walk through, we should be able to hold them for questioning." He looks over to Security. "Got a lock on them yet, Lt. Fletcher?"
Fletcher shakes his head. "Sir, they're gone." He reports to Goodwin. "They must have been fleeing while I was trying to get and maintain a lock." David says, as he taps a few more keys double checking what he just said. Seeing that it is right, he just nods once.
Over Goodwin's com badge, Nevaren says, "Sir, Shields are modified and standing by."
GAME: Takamura contests his Physical Sciences vs Challenging and Succeeds.
Goodwin nods his head. "All right. Let's stand down, then. Mister Avery, Mister Walters, start coordinating damage reports across all systems. We will need to perhaps figure out this intermix issue later."
Goodwin says, "Computer, stand down."
The computer acknowledges Goodwin with a bleep.
The station stands down from its alert status.
Takamura looks up from his console, furrowing his brow. "Commander, I've got high concentrations of anyons and baryons at the disappearance points. It is definitely caused by something beyond Federation technology."
"Well," Lopez comments, finally allowing her spine to slacken. She directs a glance to the side, to Ops II. "Who were those out-of-phase humanoids?"
Avery gets straight to work, "Aye, sir." A moment later she notes, "Don't have all reports in, but so far it seems the damage is confined to sensor and communication arrays, as if they were targeting them alone."
Walters says, "Internal structural and containment fields aren't fully modified yet, but we might be able to incorporate a switching device for future encounters. Coordinating with the Chief to get that damage report immediately..." He reaches for his combadge. "Anyons and baryons...makes sense..."
Walters taps his com badge. "Ensign Walters to Lieutenant Nevaren."
Goodwin's com badge chirrups. "Ensign Walters to Lieutenant Nevaren."
Over Goodwin's com badge, someone says, "Lieutenant Nevaren here."

Crayn sighs, disappointed. He looks between Lopez and Fletcher. "We need to speak with Mr. Revere. He said he'd encountered them before. I doubt that this is the last time we'll be seeing them, and I'm none to wanting to have them visit while our pants are down again." He shakes his head.. "This is no coincidence. They knew we were going to be shutting down."
GAME: Lopez contests her Shipboard Systems/Communications vs Moderate and Succeeds.
Fletcher looks over to Crayn and nods once. He doesn't show any emotion on the outside, his lips are a tight line now. Maybe he is thinking what Crayn is thinking or something else.
. o O Fletcher upset that he didn't get a lock the first time, and then feels angry.
. o O Fletcher thinks, "Of course they knew we were shutting down, why else attack when they did?"
Goodwin takes a deep breath. "There will be a lot of speculation and a lot of theories, I'm sure. But for now, let's just get this Station back together again." He turns towards his communicator, "Chief, I need damage teams out on the arrays as soon as possible. Mister Lopez, start directing local traffic..." And so the Commander's voice fades out as Ops puts the small Station back together again.

Fade in, the Operations Center...in motion.
Walters steps into the bustle of Ops from the corridor. The door slides shut with a whisper.
Walters has arrived.
Ghorev says, "Now, as I was saying, Mister Crayn," as he gestures towards the data on the big screen. "We know that your sensor locks did in fact damage all four vessels. One vessel was damaged enough to explode. The others were not. Again: either this was by design or by fortuitous accident. The destroyed ship will yield no clues, so now we examine the ones that were *not* destroyed, and figure out what *kind* of damage the sensor lock caused." He turns in The Big Chair. "What will you wager that a race of aliens existing in a permanent subspace phase have ships that tend to break when a beam of coherent subspace-shifted particles punches into them?"
Walters looks to Ghorev as he enters and says, "Reporting as ordered. You have something you wanted an opinion on, sir?"
Crayn thinks... "Perhaps their ships were made up of tetryon particles as well? It would explain the sudden surge after the explosion.."
Takamura enters Ops, looking around as he moves towards his station. As he signs in at Operations, he nods his head at the XO, then looks up to the information on the big screen.
Ghorev motions towards the screen. "As I was mentioning to the Lieutenant earlier, Mister Walters, time was that I was considered a fairly competent engineer. Fairly. But I would, yes, like a second opinion on the hull composition and the nature of the damage being sustained by the ships in this combination of live and modeled data. The three that are not blowing up, that is."
Walters says, "So what we're looking at, if you're right, is the ability to turn the active sensors into phasers, and perhaps, in an absurd twist of fate, turn the phasers into active sensors because I'll bet there is at least some reaction to the phasers, even if it isn'tthe traditional one."
Ghorev says, "Not an ability, so much as a vulnerability. We know that Mister Crayn's targeting lock somehow caused the destruction of one ship. We have confirmed the others to be damaged. I want to know how badly, so we can in part determine how and why."
Walters says, "Sir...Ah just had a disturbing thought. We use sensors on a daily basis. What if our sensors are damaging, and we have been casually, for years, been attacking their realm without knowledge or malice?"
Crayn blinks lsowly...
Takamura listens to the Andorian, pursing his lips in thought. "Could we tell if all four ships were the same class? Perhaps one of them was a weaker class of vessel."
Ghorev says, "Yes, that was rather where I was going with this, Mister Walters. The 'why'."
Walters says, "The question is, is it active or passive sensors that would be damaging? Ah would assume Active only. Passive wouldn't, because it is just detecting what is coming in to them. But active scanning is almost a default for all types of scanning."
Ghorev gestures to the Big Screen. "They all look the same to me, Lieutenant," he then adds, to Takamura, "but this is what teams are for. Let us start analyzing."
Takamura hmmms as he looks over the data again, furrowing his brow.
Crayn turns to Walters. "We'd been scanning for awhile. Lt. Shamash was able to locate where the vessels were. It wasn't until I'd achieved an active target lock that the damge to the ships were done."
Ghorev says, "An active target lock being an intense, and focused, scan." He motions again to the big screen. "Might I suggest, gentlemen, that we theorize *after* looking at the data?"
Walters blushes and looks to Ghorev. "Sorry, Sir. 4 independent analysis, then a brainstorming?
Ghorev says, "Let us take each analysis as it comes, Mister Walters."
Takamura nods his head in agreement to the Commander's suggestion, reads the data as it is presented.
Walters turns to the big screen with a nod, watching patiently.
Ghorev starts looking at the readouts. "Unfortunately, these are no material I've ever even heard of. But of course, I live in Newtonian space. As do we all. Anything from you, MIster Walters, or do we need to get more theoretical?"
Walters shakes his head. "Sorry, sir, that doesn't strike me as anything Ah've ever seen before, though running a computer comparison to substances known to starfleet...
Ghorev says, "Alright. In the meanwhile, let me drag someone from Science Section up here."
Walters nods at that as he moves to the Engineering section.
Crayn checks on things over at the tactical console
Takamura tilts his head to the side, seemingly searching his memory. "Well, you are right, Commander, in that they all are the same class. Other than that, I can't make out much more."
Ghorev reaches for the armrest controls.
A bosun's whistle sounds followed by the voice of Commander Ghorev. "Will the Science Officer of the watch please report to Operations? That is all."
Shamash steps into the bustle of Ops from the corridor. The door slides shut with a whisper.
Shamash has arrived.
Sweet steps into the bustle of Ops from the corridor. The door slides shut with a whisper.
Sweet has arrived.
Takamura sits down at Operations.
Ghorev says, "Alright, Mister Walters. For now, we cannot focus on the substance of those vessels. But we can still determine *disruptions* in the patte=n. You focus on those, and we will have our Science section start to figure out what kind of substance a ship that is permanently out-of-phase in subspace actually has."
Ghorev says, "For the record, gentlemen, I feel am losing my touch." He rises from the Big Chair again. "Even a year ago, I would have had the problem analyzed by now, and six different potential solutions. Either I am giving the Second Officer far too much time in this chair, or I am not running into these kinds of problems anymore." A pause. "Not that this is a sign to the Powers That Be that I want more complications in this station's daily routine, I assure you."
GAME: Walters spends a courage point.
GAME: Walters contests his Material Engineering/Structural vs Moderate and Succeeds.
Crayn sits at the tactical console and runs over the data there.
Shamash passes into Ops gently humming to himself. Said humming however ceases the moment he steps into the center proper. With a PADD in hand, he moves through the area, giving the big chair, or rather its occupant a "Sir." ingreeting, otherwise friendly nods to those he knows, moving to the Science console apparently to discuss something with the person manning it currently.
Walters sits down at Engineering I.
Takamura stands at the Operations console, looking up at the main viewscreen. At Ghorev's comment, he breaks into a grin. "Perhaps we can have some of these kinds of problems transferred to you office for you, Sir. Just so you can keep sharp."
Quietly, young Ensign Sweet walks in, thoughtfully alert. "Science officer reporting, sir," she offers momentarily to announce her presence, her words crisp and polite.
Ghorev looks up. Nods. His eyes move from one to the other science officer. "As you can tell from the discussion in progress, we have a problem. Several nights ago, during the stationwide power intermix formula test, we were assaulted by vessels belonging to a race that seems to live permanently in subspace. Their vessels, out of phase, began to attack us, and a simple sensor lock seems to have destroyed one and driven the rest off. We are curious as to why." A furrowing of brow. "The obvious answer is that their very substance was disrupted, but I want confirmation because only by getting answers like these can we determine the why and how of their attacks -- they have made previous incursions into our universe, in Federation space."
Walters says, "Well, whatever this stuff is, it attacked the very substance and material and ripped th ship apart. Maight have been like introducing a laser to dry ice, a chemical or physical reaction, or might have just been simply akin to hitting it with a meteor shower of particles."
"Ah, yes, Sir. I was present during the test, Commander. I take the responsibility that Sensor data was not evaluated as efficient as they should have, arguing that this might have been a glitch incorporated through the testing instead." Shamash responds to Ghorev, straightening just slightly. "Commander Goodwin requested my statement to the proceedings already."
Since Shamash has answered, Sweet remains silent, crossing her arms across her chest and wearing a patient expression. She muses a bit on the problem.
Ghorev says, "A glitch through the testing?" A pause. "You know, that .... Someone pull up the general logs for that night."
Takamura nods to the commander and begins to pulls up the Operations logs from the test. "Aye, sir."
GAME: Sweet contests her Space Sciences vs Challenging and Succeeds.
Walters says, "Question is, was it a chemical, heat, or impact damage upon the structure...continuing analysis."
Shamash tilts his head to the side, asking Ghorev with a simple "Sir?" to continue his sentence or question, or whatever he had in mind at this point.
Ghorev says, "Mister Takamura, check the logs. Confirm what systems were switched to main power. We already know what the Second Officer *believes*, but his engineering skills are minimal and I want some proof." He turns to Shamash. "While the Ensign assists Mister Walters, I may need you to run a comparison. But bide a moment."
As the readings go across the screen, Sweet glares at them thoughtfully. Momentarily, she pipes up. "Oh! I've an idea," she says brightly. "I think I know what we're dealing with. And where to find them. Based on those readings, one can suppose the sub-category of subspace that contains them." She goes stalking over to Walters. "Let me see if I can show you."
Walters snorts and then says, deliberately sweetly, "Should we arrange retraining for the old, decaying second officer, Sir? Seriously, this is good thinking so far and we should do well with it." He then looks to Sweet. "So, you wanted to show me what exactly?
GAME: Takamura contests his Computer/Research vs Routine and Succeeds.
"Ah, pull up a subspace diagram," Sweet suggests to Walters, smiling hopefully. "I think I can probably narrow it down from there, and we'll have a better idea of what we're dealing with. Actually, you can immediately focus on particles with an up spin."
Walters moves to the side of the console, allowing her full access to his station as he waits to learn.
Takamura taps away at his console, pulling up the desired logs. Looking up, he reports, "Only internal and external sensors and communications had been switched over during the experiment. Shields were about to be switched over but weren't because of the attack."
Ghorev says, "Thank you." He leans back, considering, brow furrowed and lips pursed. "Was there any form of power gain noticed from the intermix?"
Shamash nods to Ghorev as he is bidden to wait, occupying himself with what he came here to do to pass the time.
Crayn looks up, remembering.. "Actually, we'd hit a loss.. it looked like some of the systems had more drain on the new mix then with the old one."
Ghorev says, "Are you sure?"
Ghorev says, "Someone check the logs, please. Mister Walters has his hands full at the moment."
Takamura makes a few more taps and looks up. "According to Lieutenant Nevaren's report, the sensors were running 'hotter' than normal when switched over to the new intermix."
"There, or maybe... I need to study the data again, I think," Sweet comments, mostly to Walters, whose console she's commandeered. "Maybe..." She looks up again.
Walters says, "Okay...and all the particles in he sample have a top spin? I'm not sure that's possible in something occuring naturally, but then, this isn't anything natural. Might it be the manner in which the phase effect is achieved?"
Ghorev says, "Alright." A nod. "Mister Shamash, I want to consider the idea that the increased power and resultant amplitude shift of our sensor waves may have had something to do with this." He gestures. "The Ensigns will be putting together a model of the uncorrupted, undamaged hull structure of these vessels." He eyes Sweet and Walters to make sure he is heard and understood. "I want you, Lieutenant," he then says to Shamash, "to create a model of how our current sensors, running off a standard power intermix, would affect their hulls."
Crayn looks over to Walters.. "If I remember correctly, Lt. nevaren did mention that to make tetryon particles visible, you needed to spin them."
"Very unnatural. And look at the particle interaction," Sweet points out, poking towards the display on the console. "Does that match our data?"
Ghorev then rises from his seat. "Mister Takamura, you have Ops. I want word the second we have answers, but in the meanwhile, I have to hail a few other stations -- we were not the only ones testing a new intermix."
Walters says, "Should we do a secondary model based on what the intermix's presence might do, or how it might affect them?"
Takamura nods his head to Ghorev in cknowledgement of the orders. "Aye, sir. I have Ops." The Japanese man steps away from his console and moves to the command well.
Takamura stands and leave Operations.
Ghorev stands and leaves Commander's.
Ghorev makes his way for the door. Motions from Walters to Takamura in an 'ask him' kind of way.
Takamura sits down at Commander's.
Takamura looks over towards the engineer, nodding his head. "Yes, Ensign. Please, construct an appropriate model."
"To my knowledge, Sensors were running on Auxillary power at the time of my scan, at least i got the feeling that sensors worked on less, not more power.", Shamash mentions to Ghorev. "But.. i will keep further questions until i have had a chance to see what kind of ...effects have taken place."
Walters lowers his voice to not disturb the otherrs as he confers with Sweet
Crayn sits at Tactical, keeping an eye on the here and now. He runs the weapons systems through a couple diagnostics.
Ghorev heads out of Operations and into the main corridor.
Ghorev has left.
A fading to black, then a slight brightening of ambient light, followed by Ghorev's voice in the darkness lit only by space and the exterior lights of Station 419 as the camera passes over the hull: "Station log. Stardate 55433.7. I have received word from SCE HQ that two other facilities testing intermix variants very close to our own were similarly attacked, or at the very least took damage consistent with the attack but did not identify the damage as an actual attack from out-of-phase subspace denizens. This confirms our working theory, stitched together over the past week of post-incident analysis, that the new power intermix caused a sufficient power-boost to our subspace transceivers such that the enhanced carrier waves were mistaken for an attack or intrusion by the Solanagen-based lifeforms, and instigated a retaliation from them. SCE is placing testing of the suspect intermix formulas on hold at this time, but we are to be on guard in case of a return attack. The Captain and I hold out hope that we will be granted permission, or at least the room to maneuver without formal permission, to re-start the new intermix formula and send out a deliberate carrier wave to the Solanagen to lure them in for something resembling a real, formal first contact." The camera pulls away a bit, showing the station now against the backdrop of starships which are in the vicinity for servicing or trading, and against the bright blue-white of the Anomaly. "We are a Presidential Unit, after all, and the biggest little station on the border...."
