. o O Lopez thinks, "A year already. It feels so long when you're living it, and so short reviewing it."
Adansae comes upstairs.
Adansae has arrived.
The hairs at the back of your neck rise, a shiver shaking your spine. Somebody's watching.
Krylow comes upstairs.
Krylow has arrived.
Adansae's eager steps slow as she reaches the top of the staircase, and by the time she sets foot in the hallway, she appears a bit disoriented. She watches the back and forth passage of apparitions for awhile, then steps forward into the darkness. "Forget the tricorder," she whispers. "We should have brought a candle."
A serving platter floats through the room carried by an invisible ghost.
. o O Revere thinks, "Harsh."
Krylow stops at the top of the stairs, waiting on Adansae to take in the area and get a good look around. "Its not really that bad, actually. As you walk a little light moves with you so you're not completely in the dark."
Oh, engineer logic -- Adansae gives a little rolling of her eyes, but proceeds determined to be frightened by why lies ahead. When they pass a doorway that contains an assortment of half-whispered half-voices, she comes to a stop and tips her head against it.
A low, deep-throated growl emanates from the depths of the shadows.
Krylow meanders along behind Adansae, grinning a little as he does. When she stops by the door, he whispers, "Becareful with that room. I heard that strange medical experiments are occurring there. Its pretty dangerous."
"Medical experiments?" Adansae turns her gaze back to Krylow, wide-eyed with delight. "Like 19th- and 20th-century nightmares?" Her hand rests on the doorknob, but doesn't turn. "Still, what are they going to do -- chase us down with a hypodermic needle?"
"I heard the doctor was a little insane, and was cutting off heads and attaching them to other bodies," comments the engineer, still teasing the counselor.
Adansae hrmphs a little as she turns the handle and opens the door. "*My* research proposal to do that was turned down flat," she sighs. "They wouldn't even listen to my argument that it would revolutionize therapy." The two are greeted by a rushing of whispering apparitions, so many that whatever the room holds is momentarily hidden from sight.
. o O Lopez thinks, "Last thing I need is to put another kid into therapy."
For a brief instant, every beam of light is sucked away into an inky blackness.
Krylow laughs at her response, and then pulls back a touch from the charging apparitions. "How would it revolutionize anything? You'd just take the head of someone insane, like me, and stick it on the body of someone sane, like you, and then you'd be insane. And a monster to boot."
"But then you'd be much prettier," Adansae replies sweetly. "And I'd have a better body." Waving her hands in front of her face, she pushes aside the streaming apparitions like so many streamers and steps into the room: a library, as it turns out. From the walls come the sound of ever-turning pages; from the shadows, whispered voices and child-like giggles that carry further than they should.
Krylow steps into the doorway behind her, laughing softly. "I see. I like this room, actually. The library, the fireplace and the basement are the two best places in whole hotel. Of course, I always did like to read." A little pause. "Just without the ghosts, that is."
"Basement?" Adansae looks back to Krylow again, wide-eyed with delight. "There's a basement here? I've always thought the whole idea of a basement was really creepy. We don't have them on Juniper, of course -- unless you count the graves." High-pitched voices giggle at this as the light provided by dozens of candles flicker in perfect tempo.
A serving platter floats through the room carried by an invisible ghost.
Krylow grins to Adansae and nods. "There is, though Ana and I closed it off for the party. We wanted to keep people somewhat close together. It came complete with coffins and cold stone slabs."
Laughing, Adansae returns Krylow's grin. "Closed it off, huh? Well, I'm totally sneaking down there later. Just try'n stop me." She makes her way over to a long, low table lit by melting candles and picks up a book. After paging through it, she reads out the title: "The Sacrifice of Innocents: A Butcher's Guide."
For his part, Krylow picks up a candle and carries it over towards where Adansae is reading. "You're looking for a little evening reading? I think that we need to watch you, what with you reading stuff like that."
Revere comes upstairs.
Revere has arrived.
Nevaren comes upstairs.
Nevaren has arrived.
"Oh, I suspect it's been awhile since you qualified as an 'innocent'," Adansae replies to Krylow, her laughter joining the ghostly giggles in the background. The two are inside the library, located inside one of the doorways off the main hall.
Krylow and Adansae have ventured into one of the rooms. Its a library, complete with ghosts, children's spooky giggling and more. Adansae's reading from a book and Krylow's standing near with a candle in hand.
Revere leads Nevaren up the stairs, giving the hallway a once-over. "Well, I don't see anything that's going to kill us right away," he offers, both eyebrows lifting.
A ghoul shuffles down the hallway, groaning as it passes.
Nevaren nods slowly and looks around. "Neither do I." he admits as he places his hands on his zorro-panted hips. The blackness of his mask makes his eyes seem to stand out even more, like a cats. "I expected at least a floated severed head or something.. or is it too ealy in the tour?"
"Oh, you and your mean comments wound me lassie," quips Krylow, again in the fake accent. "I just be a good natured engineer trying to help out. What did I ever do to deserve ye wrath, mmmm?" he continues, before glancing over to see Revere and Nevaren out in the hallway.
"Not *mean*," Adansae retorts, reaching for the next book on the pile. "Just think would it would say if I *did* consider you an innocent, a man of your..." She looks from the book cover to the engineer's greying hair. "--Greatly advanced age." From the rafters and corners, more childish giggles filter down.
Revere watches the ghoul pass him by, then makes his way toward the library. "Probably too early in the tour, sir."
From somewhere in the shadows ahead the sounds of something being wetly masticated are audible.
Nevaren blinks.. and makes a face at that last sound. "I think SOME officers had too much time on their hands."
"Not exactly, sir," replies Krylow, looking to Nevaren. "Ana and I actually got this program from a producer on Sol. In fact, we toned it down a little. Like I was telling the Counselor, normally there is a large, haunted basement here." He turns back to Adansae. "Now, lassie, don't ye be poking fun at me age!"
"A basement that I entirely intend to visit," Adansae announces as she drops the book in her hands to the table. It lands with a loud and echo-y THUMP that causes her to jump. Grinning at herself, she turns back to Krylow. "With advanced age comes respect. In many cultures."
Revere wrinkles his nose, tugging on his jacket. "I hope I don't taste as good as whatever that was."
Nevaren grins at Kylow, eyeing the costume and listening to that horrid accent. Oh he seems to love it. "Wasn't he... uhm.. more heavyset?" he asks Alec with a laugh. he then steps in front of a mirror and erks, quickly jumping back.. Because the reflection is not quite of him.. Yet it MOVES with him. "Creepy." he says with a shiver.
Krylow glances down and pats his belly. "Yes, he was. I figure that he would have been in better shape if the PRTs were tougher. Or something," Alek says with a shrug.
A serving platter floats through the room carried by an invisible ghost.
Likely having no idea of who Krylow is supposed to be or the relative stature of the individual, Adansae just makes a face and tips her head towards the exit. "Come on -- we can't spend the entire party sitting in the library. People will talk." And right on cue, whispered voices begin murmuring in the air.
Revere folds his arms over his chest, raising his eyebrows at Adansae. "I think you're just afraid of all these books," he teases softly, grin widening as the voices start.
Nevaren looks.. disoriented.. as the voices start. He quickly looks around, biting his lower lip. "You know.. I always thought being able to SEE in the dark would make haunted houses less scary. I never really thought of the other parts of the "Haunted" atmosphere.
Goodwin comes upstairs.
Goodwin has arrived.
Takamura comes upstairs.
Takamura has arrived.
The hairs at the back of your neck rise, a shiver shaking your spine. Somebody's watching.
The small group gathered upstairs is standing in the doorway of the library, chatting and bantering above the sounds of whispered voices and childish giggles.
Payne comes upstairs.
Payne has arrived.
Krylow grins to the others and shakes his head. "Its just a few ghosts, guys. Wait until you see the zombies. Now those are scary."
Nevaren blinks now. "Uhm.. Zombies?" he asks.
"He's teasing," Adansae replies, nudging Krylow with an elbow to demonstrate the respect that his advanced years have earned him. "Come on -- let's go check out the next room."
"Zombies?" Goodwin comes up near the group, complete in his Balin-attire. "The ghosts are pretty neat." A pause. "Oh. Hi everyone."
Revere's smile fades, and he folds his hands behind his back. "The undead. Great."
Payne heads down the stairs.
Payne has left.
. o O Revere thinks, "She snubbed me. She's never snubbed me before."
Payne comes upstairs.
Payne has arrived.
. o O Revere is confused.
Nevaren GAHS as Goodwin walks up behind them and speaks unexpectedly.. The Albino Zorro whirls around and gets tangled in cobwebs. "Get them off! get the off!" he says, waving his hands around.
Krylow starts to follow Adansae, then pauses, laughing out loud as he watches Nevaren and his 'killer' cloak. After a moment he offers the man the candle. "Here, sir, maybe this help," teases the 'older' man.
Adansae laughs at Nevaren's frightful encounter with Goodwin, shaking her head ruefully. "He *is* terrifying," she notes with a grin to the commander as she leads Krylow further down the hallway. She passes several doors before coming to a stop before a silent one. She knocks.
A shambling mass of flesh passes, quietly wailing the desire for a snack of brains.
For a brief instant, every beam of light is sucked away into an inky blackness.
Takamura comes up the stairs not long after Goodwin. His brown eyes search the halls as if looking for something or someone. "There be nothing to fear from the undead."
Goodwin gasps a little bit at the zombie. "Man. He looked like that one Chief we had in Personnel at Sector once." He shakes his head. "Really scary. Realistic, though."
Nevaren takes the candle, blushing a deep green. "Sorry." he says, looking sheepish at his little outburst. He untngles himself and squints at Goodwin's.. very colorful costume.. and quickly pulls the candle back. "I don't know what scares me more, Commander. Your walking up un announced.. or that color combination. I think I'm getting a headache."
"I think he looks rather fetching," Adansae offers over her shoulder as she puts her hand on the doorknob. No answer comes to her knock, and she looks to make certain that her backup is in place before proceeding.
Revere clears his throat as he watches the zombie past. "Who makes this kind of stuff? Do they get paid extra?"
Krylow follows Adansae along, chuckling as he listens to the other banter. "Well, go on fearful leader," he says, as Adansae reaches for the door knob.
Nevaren turns around to watch the zombie come by.. He isn't so much scared by it as... intrigued. "I dunno. He reminds me of my roommate from the academy."
Takamura draws a blackpowder pistol in one hand and his cutlass in another. He moves down the hall to follow after Krylow and Adansae. Watching the zombie go by, he just smirks.
The dim glow of burning candles gently illuminates the bedroom on the other side of the door selected by Adansae. A large bed rests against the far wall, the sheets muddy and pulled back from the mattress to reveal a large splotch of dried blood in the center beneath several severed fingers. The nightstands to either side are covered in the melted dripping wax. Across to the right, the closet doors stand ripped asunder.
A chill pierces clothes, flesh, and bone as a cold wind oozes from one end of the room through the other.
"Ooo," says Goodwin, leaninf forward slightly, though he tries to keep his air of detached amusement about him for the upstairs part of the house. After all, wouldn't do to show that he might be scared by all of this.
Krylow blinks a little, looking around the room, and then laughs. "Wow, even Ana and I didn't see this when we toured through the program. This is a really creppy room."
Revere folds his arms over his chest. "Guess that there were uninvited guests," he murmurs.
"Ooooooh," Adansae breathes out as she takes the scene in. She steps inside without hesitation, but as the chill sweeps through the room, she reaches for Krylow's arm and clings as if for dear life. "I wonder what happened..." A dresser sits off to the other side of the bed, the surface split open by a large knife thrust into the wood top.
Nevaren frowns and looks around.. Not an unhpappy frown. Just a creepy one. "You know.. other then the blood on the bed.. this reminds me of my ex-mother in laws house."
A severed head floats through the rooms and down the halls, groaning as it passes.
As the chill passes through the room, Takamura's flesh gets goosebumps. "I wonder if there be some rings on those fingers? I be looking fer some booty to plunder."
"Are, like, 'booty' and 'plunder' the only words you know since you put on that outfit?" asks Goodwin of Takamura, somewhat incredulously, but it's all good natrued.
Nevaren eyes the Pirate and smirks. He pulls out his sword and strikes a Zorro-esque pose. "Back, villian. I will fight for the womans.. uhms.. finger's honor!"
Jolvan comes upstairs.
Jolvan has arrived.
K'net-mauri comes upstairs.
K'net-mauri has arrived.
Revere straightens up, tugging on his uniform jacket and turning without a word for the stairs.
Weston comes upstairs.
Weston has arrived.
In a room off the hallway...
Upon closer inspection, the glint of once-golden rings can be seen on a finger -- a bloodied wedding set just above a cruelly severed limb. Adansae frowns as she studies them, then looks back to Takamura with that same frown in place. "I suspect," she notes to the would-be pirate in a whisper, "that such things carry a curse."
Jolvan comes up from below with caution peering left and right before taking that last step.
Krylow turns to grin towards Nevaren. "Well, at least he's not wearing pink, purple and red," teases the engineer. He, of course, lets Adansae cling to his arm. He and the counselor are standing inside a bedroom down the hall, while Goodwin, Nevaren and Takamura are in and around the door. "Its only a little chill. The head was more scary."
A serving platter floats through the room carried by an invisible ghost.
In a room off the hallway...
Adansae clings to Krylow's arm as she peers around the room -- frightening as the scene is, she's not about to turn and run back to the punchbowl. "Look," she whispers.
The near wall is fronted by a huge mirrored vanity, the contents of which have been swept aside into a broken pile on the floor. The sickening strong scent of mixed perfumes lingers above the broken glass and precious baubles scattered everywhere. Written in large dripping red letters on the wall behind the bed are the words: REDRUM MA I. A trapdoor in the ceiling remains partially open to reveal the dark attic above. The short folding ladder remains extended, a skeletal invitation.
Weston comes up from below as well, looking around for a few moments, as he reaches the top of the stairs, looking around a bit carefully. "Interesting place, wouldn't you say?" he comments to Jolvan, a bit lightly.
Takamura shakes his head at Goodwin. "Nay. I can say more than that. However, that is what I be lookin' for, matey." Looking to Adansae, he grins. "I worry not about a curse. I just want the treasure." When Nev draws his sword, Tak holds up his cutlass in defense.
Revere offers a respectful nod to K'net-mauri, Jolvan, and Weston before he vanishes down the stairs.
Revere heads down the stairs.
Revere has left.
Channa comes upstairs.
Channa has arrived.
Watters comes upstairs.
Watters has arrived.
Jolvan content that there is no ambush moves further into the room," Interesting. Yes."
Nevaren laughs at Tak. Zorro Vs Pirate. He lowers his blade with a swoosh swoosh motion and slips it back into it's scabbard. He eyes the stairladderthingy that leads up to the attic now. "I swear.. I have seen this in some old entertainment recording."
Goodwin sighs and glances at the time. "I really need to get going," he admits to himself. "But, well, happy Halloween everyone, or merry Halloween, or whatever it is." And so Balin-Goodwin slips from the haunted house.
K'net-mauri looks around. He doesn't seem disturbed by the display. He doesn't seem amused by it either.
Goodwin heads down the stairs.
Goodwin has left.
A serving platter floats through the room carried by an invisible ghost.
Weston grins a bit as he looks around and moves further into the area, reaching inside his jacket to pull out what looks like a small pistol, or at least a model of one. Because no 007 costume is complete without the Walther PPK, right?
. o O Goodwin keeps thinking of three Shuliae, dampening his otherwise good spirits.
Channa slowly makes her way up the ladder peeking a little because she's mostly has head hidden against Watters' chest. When the two finally get to the top she lets out a little shriek it's even worse up here. She doesn't even notice Goodwin go past them and down. Her eyes are on then ghouls and ghosts floating around as well as the cobwebs and other manner of scary things. "I'm not sure I like this. " She says, her voice is barely above a whisper, as if she doesn't want to attract attention to herself.
Jolvan watches Watters an Channa after her liitle shriek, he frowns a bit before looking around the rom again.
K'net-mauri glances at Channa, then speaks to Jolvan. He says in Romulan, "I think the yelping is worse that the gruesome holograms. Is it part of the tradition, do you suppose?"
Watters just grins a little bit down at Channa and her rather skittish reaction to the scenery upstairs. "Oh, come on... you'll be fine. It's all just holoprojections anyway" he tells her, before adding "But, if ya really want to go back down..." just letting the sentance trail off.
. o O Watters thinks, "Chicken..."
. o O Jolvan thinks, "Oh well."
Payne walks around, not speaking. He simply glances at the others, and then the room. He scans it, assuming the role of 'bodyguard'. Mostly keeping to himself.
Krylow looks around the room a little more as he and Adansae wander in. Krylow whispers to Adansae, "This is pretty gruesome." Eyes look up to the trapdoor, and then he lowers his head to whisper to Ada. Krylow whispers to Adansae, "I wonder if the killer it still up there, lurking around and waiting to jump out." He stands a touch, and say, much louder, ''Boo!''
Nevaren turns to face the others who are comming their way. he stands straighter, running two fingers along the brim of his black hat and bows to the newcomers with a smile.
Jolvan looks at K'net and shrugs, "Perhaps."
Weston blinks a little as he hears the shriek, and turns to look around, offering a quiet half-smile to Channa and Watters, before he then looks further on again, moving a bit slowly.
A piercing shriek suddenly rends the air, fading to a low moan before dying away.
Adansae leans closer to catch Krylow's whisper, then jumps at his exclamation. Laughing, she swats lightly at his arm. "No killer would be stupid enough to stay--"
Her words are cut off when the clock radio on the nightstand clicks on and the soft music begins, but after a few notes a newscast breaks in. "The escaped murderer is still at large. Four more bodies have been found along the highway, mutilated. The identities have not yet been disclosed." The glowing red number clicks over to the next minute, and the radio abruptly shuts off.
Channa gives a sheepish grin to the others and tries to remain quiet though it's clear by the expression on her face she's trying very hard not to shriek again. "Em, no it's fine, I'm fine, we can stay. " She says giving him a little frown for his though.
Payne presses his finger to his ear, and looks around. Saying something to himself.
"You sure?" Watters replies to her. "Ya look a little nervous..." Which is putting it rather mildly from where he's sitting. With that said, he looks around the place a little bit more, giving a little nod to those nearby.
Jolvan says to K'net, "Could you imagine honoring the dead like ths on Romulus?"
Krylow grins to Adansae, eyesbrows raising a little. "You were saying?" He looks pointedly to the trapdoor. "I hope he cuts off the fingers after, otherwise it would hurt quite a bit.
Nabrun comes upstairs.
Nabrun has arrived.
K'net-mauri smiles at Jolvan. "Is this honouring the dead? I thought it was something else."
Nevaren eyes the two romulans and chuckles. "This isn't about honouring the dead. This is about getting scared."
McKenna comes upstairs.
McKenna has arrived.
Takamura sheaths his cutlass and stuffs his pistol back into his belt. Since the room is starting to get crowded, he turns to head back into the hallway.
Nabrun stops at the top of the steps and just pauses for a moment, out of the way, shivering. Her arms are, of course, bare - and she crosses them protectively in front of herself for a moment, trying, and failing, to surpress a shiver.
K'net-mauri looks at Nevaren. "I'm not scared," he says. "Does everyone want to be?"
Green comes upstairs.
Green has arrived.
Adansae gives a little shudder to Krylow's comment. She's still grinning, but the conversation taking place between K'net-mauri and Jolvan steals away a bit of her shivery pleasure. "Being scared," she agrees softly. "It's a long-standing tradition that someone from Earth can tell you about in detail, I'm sure." The small group is gathered in a bedroom off the hallway, and look ready to climb up a ladder to the attic.
Channa glances towards the pair of Romulan. "I'm as confused as you are and if this is honoring their dead I don't like it much. " She says, then stops when the radio comes on. "Do you think he'll come here?" she asks, looking around frantically.
Payne continues scaning the room. Making his way down the hallway, perceptively. He doesn't make any noise as he makes himself aware of his surrounding perceptively.
For a brief instant, every beam of light is sucked away into an inky blackness.
Krylow grins to Adansae and shrugs a little. "I suppose. I never really did much on Halloween until last year's party. I dare say though, this one is much better. This program Ana found is a ton of run."
Jolvan glances at Channa,"If there is a Killer loose then the entire local security force will be out looking for him."
McKenna follows Nabrun in, looking around with wry curiosity. "Good gods," he says, "This place hurts the mind. I'm going to have nightmares for weeks."
Payne doesn't look scared as he walks down the hallway with exuberance. "I dont see the big deal about ugly creatures jumping out in front of you. Doesn't seem errie to me." He comments.
"Honoring the dead? Nah, this is just having fun" Watters replies to Channa with a little grin. "And besides, you've got nothing to worry about. You've got a security officer right next to ya" Watters tells her jokingly, before correcting. "Or, should I say for tonight, an officer of his majesty King George's Dragoons."
Nabrun looks around for a moment, squeaking quietly. "I think I agree, James," she murmurs to McKenna, then grins and waves to the people she can see from her perch near the steps. Someone's not sure which way to go, for the moment.
Green follows McKenna in, albeit a few moments later. She glances around briefly before trying to sneak up behind him. "Perhaps we should get you a teddy bear to hold onto then."
Nevaren chuckles at Jolvan's statement. "Actually, I think this program's timeperiod is a few hundred years in earth's past. Security wasn't exactly notorious for apprehending people back then in these.. situations."
Weston smiles a little, "Well, it's much better to have to deal with the fear here than in other situations, I would say." He then pauses a little, looking around at the lot of people.
Takamura leers at the women coming up the stairs as he walks back against the flow of traffic. It appears that this buccaneer has had enough of this and is heading back downstairs.
. o O Crayn thinks, "Why oh why must Fate tempt me so."
McKenna yelps in surprise as Green manages to catch him off-guard. Then he turns, and eyes her. "You think they make teddy bears in my color?"
After standing at the base of the ladder for a considering moment, Adansae begins to climb upwards, hand-over-hand. It takes her a few minutes of struggling to push the trapdoor back; when it finally budges, it falls back with a terrible protest from rusty hinges and then a resounding crash as it hits the wooden floor on the other side. Wincing, Adansae looks apologetically to the others nearby. "...sorry."
Crayn comes upstairs.
Crayn has arrived.
Channa glances behind her at those gathering behind them and says to the Ensign. "Well we better move on. " befoee moving on her hand white on Andrews arm. "Hmm I'm not really reassured. " She then hears Jolvan, and glances to him. "You think so I mean I know it's a holoprogram and all. " She sighs softly then pulls back at she's leered at by the pirate. "Em Takamura hello. " She says figuring out whom it is under the pirates outfit. "Oh gosh this is terribly scary, but I don't want to lose face. "
K'net-mauri laughs and says to Nevaren, "If the point is to be scared, I'm sure they won't."
Payne chuckles as he follows Adansae up the later. the sound doesn't seem to bother him, and silence falls on the secret service agent. He waits paitently to see what awaits him on the other side.
Krylow turns back as he hears something, and looking down the hall grins to Nabrun and the others. "Glad you could finally make it. I've been getting dragged everywhere!" he says with a grin, before heading up the ladder.
Nabrun looks, honestly, terrified. Either that or she fakes it well. "Evening, Hi..." Pause, blink owlishly. With a quick downward glance and a light tug on her toga, she seems to check something. "What am I missing?" she asks softly, then grins at Green and McKenna.
Jolvan smiles at Nevaren,"Ah," he shrugs,"Pehaps then we should fortify the domcile. Or is it par of the program to let the killer in?"
"I'm sure we could obtain a veritable rainbow of teddy bears," Tay nods, and aims another bob of her head at Nabrun. "Evening, Barana."
. o O Green thinks, "To answer your question, Barana- Underwear?"
"Well, we can always go back down..." Watters tells Channa again. "Besides, I think Lieutenant Lopez had mentioned something about bobbing for apples or something" He adds, perhaps trying his best to give her a way out here without embarassing her too much.
Nevaren hmmmmms and looks up... up at that trap door to the attic. he pushes the brim of his har up and rubs at the seam where his mask ends and hair begins. "You know... severed fingers.. an insane murderer on the loose. A spooky house with a ladder leading up into an attic where we will most likely be killed. Yeah.. more and more like my ex-mother in law's house every minute."
Payne chuckles at something said, and continues his journey up the ladder. To the attic, he waits paitently to see what awaits him.
K'net-mauri looks at Nevaren. "All we need are a few devils," he says.
The attic is entirely unlit save for the moonlight -- provided by a full moon tinged red -- that streams in through broken windows. It appears to be a storage place used by a group of people determined never to part with anything. Boxes and crates and steamers are stacked in racks and piles that at first appear entirely random, but upon closer inspection, they seem to form a path of sorts. Parting a weaving a spiderwebs for Krylow and Payne, Adansae does her best to repress a shiver.
Takamura grins at Channa as he passes her by. "'ello, Miss." The bare chested pirate then begins to walk down the stairs, nodding to McKenna, Green, and Nabrun as he passes them.
Crayn makes his way in quietly, and looks absolutely terrified, to the point where he tries to hide hyper-ventilation.. However, it's not so much the house that's affecting him. He sees takamura and sighs.. Oy.. Looks like great minds think alike. He.. tries his best to keep his distance from all, prefering a place up against the wall, to observe.
Nevaren smirks at the ambassador and then starts up the ladder behind the few going up.. a hand on his blade at all times. "You know.. I don't remember Zorro doing stuff like this." he murmurs.
A shadow suddenly appears behind you, long arm-like shadows blotting out the light.
Jolvan looks up at the trapdoor, "Toss a photon grenade up there that should do it."
K'net-mauri says, his tone musing, "Hypothrax, demon of plague and starvation. Ixat, demon of rape and flying knives."
McKenna offers to Tay, "Paisley. I want one in paisley. You know, this place reminds me of a bad reaction I had once to some Ferengi dri- what was that?" He leaps again as a shadow startles him. "Protect me!"
Weston can't hold back a chuckle as he hears Nevaren's words. "Sounds like interesting family holidays, then," he offers, with a grin. He then looks around again for a few moments, before he moves in the direction of that ladder, still holding the PPK-model firmly in his hand.
Channa hmms softly and seems to be generally scared. "I...I think I'd rather go back down and talk to that nice lady down stair. And maybe pop for apples?" she says looking at the Ensign with huge black eyes. "It's a little much for me here I think. " She doesn't just mean the scary things either, there's too many people and it's making the empath feel uncomfortable.
Nevaren 's head sticks down out of the trapdoor and he grins at Jolvan. "Photon grenades? You can't kill WhAt iS aLrEdY DeAD! MUahahAHAhaAHAh!"
Nabrun lifts a hand to the Romulan delegation, then moves forward to find a candle, glancing over her shoulder from time to time. Someone's not fond of shadows.
Green turns quickly, a hand dropping, then she pauses and turns slowly back toward McKenna, eyeing him. "... Riiiight. So. Paisley, you were saying?"
Takamura heads down the stairs.
Takamura has left.
Jolvan stares back at nev with all seriousness. "That doesn't make any sense."
. o O Crayn is absolutely terrifed, however it's due more to the gathering of people then to the effects of the house.
Weston moves up the ladder and through the trapdoor as well, grinning a bit as he hears what's being said.
Watters nods a little at Channa, going to lead the way back towards the stairs downwards. "Back down it is, then" he says with a little smile. "Guess next year I'll have to come up with something better to protect you than a dismounted cavalryman with a fake sword" he adds, lessing the smile grow into a grin as he heads back down the stairs.
"Counselor, I'm going to need to go protect my wife now," comments Krylow, half sitting on the edge of the trapdoor. "I think the only thing to worry about up here is are the spiders. The big big spiders."
Payne peaks his head up through the opening left by the trap door, into the attic. He stays there for a moment, then looks down, trying to see if anyone is beneath him. Perhaps he wants down now. Maybe he is scared, or maybe he is bored.
K'net-mauri shrugs to Jolvan. "You can't kill devils, you have to trap them. Were you never a child?"
Nevaren frows at Jolvan a moment.. then sighs and shakes his head... his hand holding his hat on so it doesn't fall off from being upsdie down. "I bet Romulan Ghost stories suck." he murmurs as he pops back up into the red lit attic."
Channa nods at Watters relieved to be going down. "Enjoy. " She calls out to those remaining and all put runs down the stairs. "I'm such a coward. " She mutters to herself.
"Go ahead," Adansae replies to Krylow with a smile as she heads back down behind him. "Take her to see the rest of these upstairs rooms -- I'm going to go find that basement."
Jolvan turns his head to K'net,"Its a Devil? Well then thats different."
McKenna beams at Green. "And whyever not? It's such a nice color."
Channa heads down the stairs.
Channa has left.
Watters heads down the stairs.
Watters has left.
Krylow grins to Adansae and shakes his head. "Make sure you take a candle. There is no light down there," he comments, before heading down the ladder and then over towards Nabrun. "Good evening, damsel in distress."
Adansae goes home.
Adansae has left.
"It's lot of nice colors," Tay says. "And I never said I disapproved." She glances around. "There are refreshments around here, I'm guessing?'
"A ghost, I believe," says K'net-mauri, "Is the spirit of a dead person. If, suppose, you died and failed to encounter Vhorta Vor, but instead wandered around annoying people. It is like a devil in that it is a supernatural entity which, no doubt, requires supernatural methods of handling."
. o O Takamura feels disappointed and lacking the cheer he had only a few moments ago.
A shambling mass of flesh passes, quietly wailing the desire for a snack of brains.
Nabrun has her back to a wall as she stands in the hallway, looking around. Apparently togas and shadows don't go well together. The candle's held in a death grip, and she looks incredibly relieved to see a certain engineer. "I take it you're my knight in shining armor?" she teases. "Silver hair or silver armor?"
Nevaren stand supright and looks around the attic, eyes locking on Krylow and Nabrun looking sorta close as the husband comforts the wife and suddenly eeeeeews and starts rubbing at his eyes. "Alec! Please! I don't want to think of my hero in THAT way." he cries..
Payne makes his way down the stairs, once its clear. He stands at the base, and glances around the room. Remaining silent, he apparently thinks about something.
McKenna hmmms. "I was thinking of questing for them. I just didn't want to stumble into the wrong door and vanish into an evil vortex of doom. Someone said something about drinks, though."
Jolvan starts to follow the other up through the trap door," The escape prisioner is a devil? Then how was he caught to begin with?"
"In a magical bag?" suggests K'net-mauri, innocently.
Weston looks around at the attic rather carefully, moving a little bit around, with a half-smile. "Looks quite nice," he says, after a moment or two.
Krylow laughs softly at Nabrun's comment. "I canna be your knight'n shining armor, lassie. I forget me shining armor at home. I s/pose I could be a wee knight for ya, though," he says, lapsing back into his bad, fake accent.
"Right." Jolvan confrims as his mother's stories begin to flood back into his mind.
Nabrun blinks owlishly between Alek and Nevaren for a long moment. "But I haven't even kissed him yet!" Something flickers in her eyes, then she grins and leans forward to plant one right on Alek's cheek.
Nevaren makes a face as the two seem to be getting mushier. "I am never going to be able to read a historical engineering journal with a straight face again.
Green offers McKenna her hand. "Should we go forth and adventure then?"
McKenna takes the hand, and grins. "We shall. Now I'm feeling brave."
Payne begins to make his way back across the hallway, towards the stairs, leading to the lower level.
Krylow turns to Nevaren and shrugs. "Oh well, that's not /my/ concern, sir," he quips, with a grin, before giving Nabrun a little kiss on the cheek and sliding an arm around her shoulders. "Shall we go back downstairs?"
Jolvan's head pops up into the attic,"Any sign of it?" he looks between Weston and Nev.
Nabrun curls into Alek's side, apparently not caring about grey hair or scottish accent. "I think we're scaring him," she murmurs to Krylow, grinning. "And sure. We'll follow Tay and James down to find Ana again."
A low, deep-throated growl emanates from the depths of the shadows.
Nevaren sticks his toungue out at Krylow, not really the most Zorro-esque thing to do, then looks ack at the Head of Jolvan that is sticking up through the trapdoor. "No. Just an aging legendary engineer snogging with a medevial temptress." he says matter of factly.
Green gives McKenna an amused look as she ventures forth. "Well, that's nothing new. Considering whom you chose to date, you must be quite courageous indeed." Catching her name, she pauses, looking around toward Barana inquiringly.
Crayn sighs and shakes his head to himself as he turns and heads down the stairs.
Crayn heads down the stairs.
Crayn has left.
McKenna shuffles closers to Green as something growls. "I forgot to feed Monster. Now we're doomed," he jokes.
Weston shakes his head a little bit, as he gestures over to a corner, "Unless it's over there," he replies, after a few moments.
Payne arrives at the stairs shortly after Crayn does, and heads down them, leaving the room and its occupants.
Payne heads down the stairs.
Payne has left.
Nevaren blinks as weston points at the corner.. The corner in the direction which Nevaren ISN'T facing. he suddenly sighs and hangs his head. "It's right behind me,isn't it?" he asks with a sigh of resignation.
Jolvan smiles up at Nev,"Your sacrefice will noit be forgotten Lieutenent."
Nabrun continues to lean against Alek slightly and grins at Green. "Shall we go rescue Ana from babysitting duty and bob for apples?"
Weston chuckles, as he nods a bit at Nevaren's words. "Well, you didn't expect it to turn up right in front of you, did you, sir?" he asks, before he nods in agreement with Jolvan
Krylow nods to Nabrun, and begins to move towards the stairs. "Sounds like a plan. She needs some time to relax, that's for certain," he says, before looking to Tay. "Nice costume. You're supposed to be an engineer, right?"
The dead branches from a small tree scrape against the window.
Green ahs, nodding to Barana. "Gotcha." Pause. "Babysitting duty?" Looking a little puzzled, she starts heading for the stairs. "Don't be silly, Alek. I'm mustard on burnt rye toast."
Green heads down the stairs.
Green has left.
Nabrun heads down the stairs.
Nabrun has left.
Krylow heads down the stairs.
Krylow has left.
McKenna heads down the stairs.
McKenna has left.
Nevaren rolls his eyes. "Great. Sacrifices.. as if we weren't plaing up the Devil angle enough." he grumps. Then he blinks as Green mentions babysittig and a look of TRUE horror washes over hi face. "Oh prophets. I left Sitka downstairs with Lopez.. And she's prbably been eating Candy the ENTIRE time I have been up here."
. o O Takamura thinks, "This party doesn't seem as much fun as ones I've been to in the past. Though, Ana did do a good job organizing it."
Jolvan begins to back down the ladder recognizing the horrors of a concern parent."So the Devil hunt is on hold?"
"Your daughter, sir?" Weston asks to Nevaren, after a few moments, before he shrugs a bit, "Well, maybe we should all move downstairs again? I believe we've seen quite a bit of what is up here."
K'net-mauri grins at Nevaren. "Now you are truly scared," he says. He looks at Jolvan, "Do you want to hunt this devil?"
Nevaren looks at Weston. "HAve you ever had to deal with a four year old who has consumed more sugar then a Klingon consuming Warnog at his father's funeral?"
. o O Lopez thinks, "Stay busy."
Jolvan shrugs to K'net question. "After it takes it first victim then we will have vengance on our side."
. o O Harris thinks, "No mingling. Just get in, wave the flag, and get the hell out of here."
Weston shakes his head a little, "No. But my mother did, once. It was 18 years ago, though." And don't ask him who that 4 year old back then was, please.
For a brief instant, every beam of light is sucked away into an inky blackness.
. o O Payne feels Anger
. o O Payne thinks, "Of all the things to come to a party as.."
K'net-mauri laughs at Jolvan. "Has it?"
. o O Solange thinks, "Spooks the hell out of me... I love halloween."
. o O Green thinks, "What idiot is under that makeup?"
Nevaren eyes the romulans a moment... Then shakes his he head and grins at Weston as he makes for the ladder. "Well, all I know is dealing with a sugar hyped little girl is only half as safe as, oh I don't know, trying to realign the matter containment bottle in a breached warp core." he says as he climbs down.
Jolvan looks to the stairsthen back to the ambassador," Not taht I know of. And I am hungry," He smiles back." I find it much easier to hunt devils on a full stomach."
K'net-mauri shrugs. "I'm not. Nevertheless, we'll go down."
Nevaren heads down the stairs.
Nevaren has left.
. o O Green thinks, "O'Rielly. I should have known."
Weston chuckles as he makes his way over to the ladder as well. Looking around for a few moments, before he climbs down, and starts moving for the stairs as well. "Most things are easier on a full stomach, I believe," he offers, lightly.
. o O Harris is thrilled with a capital T. Really.
Jolvan begins for the stairs." It might not even be here. Let the security officers with the magic bag catch it again."
Jolvan heads down the stairs.
Jolvan has left.
The hairs at the back of your neck rise, a shiver shaking your spine. Somebody's watching.
K'net-mauri heads down the stairs.
K'net-mauri has left.
Weston heads down the stairs.
Weston has left.
. o O Harris thinks, "New resolution one: no more holidays unless they're crammed down my throat. Every day is a work day."
. o O Harris mentally sighs. "I won't be able to stay here very long, will I?"
. o O Takamura thinks, "That costume is in really poor taste."
A severed head floats through the rooms and down the halls, groaning as it passes.
. o O Kran'dok thinks, "This costume is strangely appropriate and so very wrong all at the same time. Duty before all else is how I was raised, but it is only now that I see how wrong that can be."
. o O Kran'dok thinks, "Good thing I did not have to deal with him today. It would be a shame to ruin everything on his account, but it would feel so good right about now. Maybe I should go after and.... No. Stay here. Things will get better one day."
Walters comes upstairs.
Walters has arrived.
For a brief instant, every beam of light is sucked away into an inky blackness.
O'Rielly comes upstairs.
O'Rielly has arrived.
O'Rielly heads down the stairs.
O'Rielly has left.
Walters heads down the stairs.
Walters has left.
