Spider goes home.
Spider has left.
Caeli wields his Type III Phaser Rifle.
Cross takes the Type II Phaser.
Kismet has arrived.
Cross leads the group of officers into the transporter room. Once through the door, he turns to look to each that step in. "Alright, I believe everyone heard the Commander. Everyone suit up for EVA operations. Mister Nilee, please brief those who have not had the...pleasure of the asteroid so far." He heads off to grab a suit and follow his own orders.
Caeli sets about the EVA-donning process, laying his rifle aside for the moment and listening.
Haven groans almost silently. How she hates zero g's. The med pack is set aside as she took suits up.
As he goes about donning his EVA suit, Lieutenant JG Galen Nilee begins a very brief... briefing of the situation on the Final Menagerie. "Caution is something we can't take lightly on this asteroid. The Final Menagerie is... a death trap. A very old, and very valuable one, but a death trap, nonetheless." He pauses, pulling the suit up around his waist as he continues speaking, "I've had the... pleasure of exploring this vessel first hand, it's a warship. A chemical weapon production facility over three-hundred fifty centuries old. Everything's still working for the most part though, particularly defenses. Now. I don't know what they have in terms of perimeter defense, since our initial away mission took us inside the asteroid, but cnosidering the seeming paranoia of the vessel's former inhabitants, I suggest everyone keep their eyes open. I've seen everything from stationary energy weapons to bio-engineered creatures used in the defense of this facility." He pauses, taking a breath and looking around, "I'll pause and give everyone a moment to digest this and ask any questions they may have..."
Bright carefully puts her suit on, listening to Nilee as she focuses on doing the thing up. She pales as the Final Menagerie is described and swallows thickly.
Ender moves to grab a suit without hesitation, getting into it with little or no trouble. The green ensign seems to know his way around an EVA. He glances around a moment as he does this, as if ready to offer assistance with clasps and fittings, dividing his attention for the moment between that and Nilee. Again, this mountain of a man seem to have no internal berometer for danger. His expression registers nothing but attentive listening.
Cross checks over his seals upon his suit before standing, placing the helmet under his arm. He walks over to get a phaser, checking the setting. After holstering the weapon, he moves over to stand beside Nilee, looking at everyone to see if the information is registering with them.
Caeli clamps his boots to his suit pants, and looks up, raising two fingers. "What, if anything, is overkill? Are we better off tracking for motion or heat? And is a IIIc going to be of any good to me, or should I requisition something bigger before we leave?"
Cross reveals his Tricorder.
Haven is all about the careful check of her suit and her gear. The med pack is slung, a weapon fisted in the other gloved hand. She seen a look Cross' way but other wise remains silent.
Nilee purses his lips as he looks over to Caeli, "Heavier is better, but if we do come up against the vessel's defenses, we need to stay mobile, so keep that in mind and I'll leave the decision to you. Standard hand phasers were found to have little effect at nearly their highest setting against the bio-engineered creatures. That and they have a cloaking device. Which makes them a little hard to hit. We didn't get thorough enough scans nor did we stay long enough to establish a firm method of detecting them, but they did give off neutrino emissions when nearby, so keep that in mind. I'm hoping we won't come up against the creatures again, since we will be on the surface of the vessel and not inside with the atmosphere." The Trill takes a breath and glances around at the others, eyes stopping at Cross and then starting to move again as he speaks, "The only tactic I can give is that we make this mission as quick as possible. The sooner we get out, the less chance of detection... and retaliation we have. Last time it took the vessels computer a long time to finally activate the defenses. But that was after 35,000 years of inactivity. It might be less groggy this time."
Bright nods as she does up the final fastenings on her suit. "Understood, sir."
. o O Bright feels a shiver of fear.
Ender snaps the gauntles over his thick wrists to the the EVA arms. He adjusts the way the suit rests on him by grabbing the collar and giving it a few yanks in a clockwise motion. He checks the seal at his waist and ankles and then fits his tricorder to the suit's utility before picking up his helmet, "How wide of a net do we have to set with these," his voice rumbles out, so deep it's more felt than heard, as he hefts a field emitter over his free shoulder like daddy's shotgun.
. o O Bright thinks "I can't mess up like I did on the Cernex. I can't mess up at all."
Cross nods his head as he looks to each member of the away team. "Everyone got that? Alright, lets get those helmets sealed and be ready in five. Get a buddy a double check those seals." He places his helmet on and secures it tightly before activating the suit's com. "Remember, neutrinos and keep your eyes open. If Phasers aren't going to work, use the environment against them."
Caeli opens his tricorder, sets it to scan for neutrinos, and affixes it to his forearm with those nifty little magnets inherent in the EVA suits. His rifle is reclaimed and dialed up to the highest setting, and he picks up his helmet in the other hand. "I'll take point," he announces, before sealing up the suit and starting his checks.
Haven hefts her weapon and notes softly. "Unless there is an objection, I'll bring up the rear. I'd like to keep people between the weapons to better protection."
Haven takes the Type II Phaser.
Nilee nods his head slowly before lifting the helmet and sealing it over his head, as he speaks he begins to run the suit's automatic diagnostic, "I think that's about everything I can say. If it's all right with you, Lieutenant," Galen shoots a glance to Cross, "I'll pair up with Lieutenant Caeli and take the point with him. That way I can monitor tricorder readings and make sure we don't get any unpleasant surprises."
Bright nods again, moving about to take up one of the generator poles.
Ender grunts softly to himself and fits his helmet on, setting the seals.

Cross double checks his suit, finding that it is secured and lock. He looks to the away team members. "Okay. We have three generators to set up and three security. Pick a partner, check each other suits, grab your gear, and let's get ready to go." He heads over towards Nilee to check over his suit.
Caeli slings his rifle for a moment and begins to look over Nilee's suit. Seeing no errors, he nods once. "Looking good, Galen." And again, out comes the rifle.
Just then Takamura hails the away team: Takamura to away team. I'm detecting poor telemetry data on Haven and Ender. Please check their EVA suits to make sure they are adjusted properly.
Some days it doesn't pay to roll out of your rack. Loni sighs and starts a re-check of her suit, one little inch at a time. Responding to the hail from Tak, she responds, "Damn glad to have you back, Lieutenant. Working on the problem now. Thanks." Then she's all business again. Did she mention she hates zero-G's?
Haven taps her com badge. "Lieutenant Haven to Lieutenant JG Takamura."
Over Haven's com badge, someone says, "Lieutenant JG Takamura here."
Over Haven's com badge, Takamura says, "Go ahead."
Into her com badge, Haven says, "Damn glad to have you back, Lieutenant. Working on the problem now. Thanks for the heads up."
Over Haven's com badge, Takamura says, "You're welcome. Lieutenant Cross, we are within transporter range. As soon as your team is ready you may begin your operations."
Ender looks down at his suit, though his expression, if any, is hidden by glare on the faceplate. He sets the field generator back down and takes up his tricorder. He scans himself as he calls over the suits com, "Understood Lieutenant. Checking now." After a few moments he finds the issue in the collar clasp, which he'd yanked earlier. He removes the helmet and reattaches, scanning again and nodding.
Bright turns about toward Ender, stepping over presumably to help him check.
Nilee gives Caeli a nod, and once he's finished, he begins examining Zip's suit as well. After a few silent moments he nods, "Your's looks good too." He answers, perking up as he hears the hail from the bridge and grimacing. He shoots a glance towards the two officers who were mentioned, relieved when he sees them busily acting on the warning.
Cross calls out to the ceiling. "Acknowleged." He heads over towards the transporter pads. "Doc, you watch Lt. Bright's back and I'll watch the Ensign?" He offers. He waits for them to assemble upon the transport before give the go signal.
Caeli checks his weapon one last time, walks to the transport pad, and then rests it across his other arm, in front of his chestplate. "Ready to go. May the Great Bird take us all under his wing."
Haven finds and corrects the problem with her suit and blows out a breath. A final check and she's once more ready to go.
Haven taps her com badge and terminates transmission.
Chewing his lip subconsciously, Galen glances between the other members of the away team. Nervousness setting in? Perhaps. Maybe it's just the bad omens already coalescing in the form of bad EVA suit preparations. Whatever it is, Nilee catches himself and looks over as Zip heads for the transporter pad. The Trill follows suit, taking up a position directly behind the security officer. "Ready for transport," he reports neutrally.
Bright follows along, still carrying her generator pole, lips pressed into a thin line behind her faceplate.
. o O Nilee thinks "Maybe there is bad pagh on this rock. No! Galen, pull yourself together, you're better than that."
. o O Bright thinks "He looks nervous. That makes me feel nervous. Not that I wasn't nervous already, but this is more nervous, I think. Not that I have a control group with nervousness to compare against. I wonder if you could measure that sort of thing. Maybe if you doctored a tricorder or... later, Anne."
Ender looks to Bright as she approaches, noding his head in thanks as he finishes re-snapping the helmet. He takes up his field generator, slings it over his shoulder and heads for the pads as Cross speaks up. He assumes a position near Cross and waits.
Cross taps his com badge. "Lieutenant Cross to Lieutenant JG Takamura."
Over Cross's com badge, someone says, "Lieutenant JG Takamura here."
Into his com badge, Cross says, "Lieutenant, We're ready to go. Energize."
Over Cross's com badge, Takamura says, "Energizing."
With a blue glimmer of light, the six transport down upon the surface of the Asteroid. Surrounding them is the craggy pitted surface of the large hunk of rock and dirt. Above them, the starfield is brilliant with the Paine barely blocking out the view. The vessel is close enough that the blue glow of the nacelles gives little illumination to the surface.
As soon as he completes transport, Cross quickly pulls out his tricorder, making sure it is set for tracking any neutrino sources. He draws his phaser before keying his com to the group. "Let's get the first generator in place. Mr. Caeli and Haven, let's secure the site."
Into his com badge, Cross says, "We're on the surface, we're getting ready to deploy the first generator now."
Over Cross's com badge, Takamura says, "Acknowledged."
Caeli immediately begins scanning the landscape for movement, counting on the sciencey types to catch any neutrino emmissions. He takes a few steps away from the group, slow and steady, rifle following the movement of his eyes.
Haven drops back a few feet, her movements slow but purposeful. The type II is brought up and she begins a slow circle, checking the area.
Nilee widens his stance and glances around, trying to get his eyes to focus on the new surroundings. He's already got his lamp activated, and he begins a visual survey of the immediate area. He's got his generator over his shoulder, and he pulls the tricorder off his belt, beginning to key in a few sequences so he can keep an eye out for neutrino emissions... or any other anomalous disturbances. He glances over to Ender and Bright, silently for a moment, "Let's get this one setup here, that will free me up to keep an eye out for any of the biological defenses, assuming they can survive the vacuum, which I'm hoping they can't."
Bright clutches her generator in both hands, peering about herself with great concern. She nods to Nilee. "Yessir."
Ender unfastens his tricorder from his belt and snaps it to his forearm, making the necessary adjustments to scan for neutrino emissions. Headlamps come on with another click and he scans his immediate surroundings. When Nilee breaks into his helmet over the com he looks towards him and nods, "Yes, Lieutenant." Then moves in his direction.
Ender reveals his Tricorder.
Over Cross's com badge, Takamura says, "Lieutenant Cross, we're detecting four complex lifesigns heading in your direction. What is your status?"
. o O Bright thinks "...Life forms. Headed this way. WE ARE GOING TO BE EATEN."
Cross moves around on the outside of the team. He narrows his eyes, looking off into the distances. He stops, bringing up his phaser, thinking he spotted movement. It was hard to see with the low light caused by the ship's nacelles. "I think we have incoming." He transmits over to the team, keeping his phaser pointing in its direction.
Into his com badge, Cross says, "Visual is difficult down here, but I think I spotted something. I do not have confirmation."
Caeli immediately turns around once at that, trying to pick the lifesigns out visually. "Where? What bearing?" His weapon is brought up to ready.

Haven turns about as quick as she dares, searching for those that may be advancing on their location. She mumbles something in Nassican that the UT doesn't quit pick up. "I can't see anything." She steps up beside Ender while still remaining at the rear of the group.
Nilee places his generator down on the ground, but is delayed by the report from the Paine. He begins looking around the horizon, trying to spot movement before thinkg aloud, "No use trying to spot them by eye. They'll be cloaked. I'm surprised the Paine's sensors picked them up at all." The Trill pauses, looking to Cross, "Once we get this generator setup, I can probably track them, but I'll need to seperate from the group to do so. Their mass will stand out against a gravitic field reading. Our field generators are going to make that impossible, however." He shakes his head, "Otherwise, we'll be sitting ducks and won't be able to spot them until it's too late."
Over Cross's com badge, Takamura says, "Lieutenant, have you set up any of the devices yet?"
Bright grimaces in Nilee's direction, then steps over to help set up the generator.
. o O Bright thinks "Seperating from the group. Eeeee..."
Ender's headlamps light a fitful pool around Haven and him as his head scans too and fro for whatever it is that's approaching. He must not spot anything because he looks back to Nilee as he adresses Cross. He follows Bright and adds, "Lietenant, if I might make a suggestion. Lieutenant Bright and I can set the generators. It will free you to make your scans."
Cross considers for a moment before he nods. "Get the generators sit up and then head out to detect them. You won't go alone. Mister Caeli, you will go with him." He instructs before he moves in closer towards the group, the phaser up, tracking it with his suits lights. "Let's get this job done and get us out of here."
Caeli nods inside his helmet, and moves over to follow Nilee. "Just tell me where to shoot," he offers without much joviality./
<CONTEST> Nilee contests his Personal Equipment skill vs a difficulty of Routine and Succeeds!
Haven moves to put herself close to Bright and Ender. More then like, between them as she continues to sweep the area with her weapon and eyes. "Lets get those generators in place, folks."
Nilee nods to Cross quickly and then turns his attention back to the generator. Kneeling down slightly, the Trill keys in a few sequences into the control pad, and then pulls the emitters to the active position, extending them fully. Looking at the readout he nods conclusively, "Generator one is setup." He reports as he stands to face Caeli, "We're going to have to head fifty meters away from the edge of the gravitic field." The Trill points opposite the direction the rest of the team is going to go, "That way should work."
Bright nods quickly and turns in that direction to follow, adjusting her grip on her own generator pole and looking somewhat pale behind her faceplate.
Ender nods as well, falling in with Nilee and Bright, hefting his generator once more and bringin up the rear for that trio.

Ender nods as well, falling in with Bright, hefting his generator once more and bringing up the rear. <repose>
Over Cross's com badge, Takamura says, "Thomas Paine to Away Team. Please respond. Have you set up any of the devices?"
Into his com badge, Cross says, "We have one generator in place. Number two is being set up now. Be sure to get a lock on Mister Nilee and Caeli. They are moving to track the movement we've detected."
Caeli starts off in the direction Nilee was pointing, rifle at the ready. As if he can see whatever is coming to kill him.
Haven continues to move along with the others, weapon up, sweeps taking place.
GAME: Nilee spends a courage point.
<CONTEST> Nilee (claiming advantage) contests his Personal Equipment (Tricorder) skill vs a difficulty of Impossible and Succeeds!
Nilee grimaces as he examines his tricorder, slowing down as they get far enough away, he speaks over his commlink to the rest of the away team, "I'm picking up gravitic distortions around our perimeter..." he pauses, "Yes. I think that's them. Not enough for targetting, but I'm tracking their movement. They're... moving in arcs around us. Stalking us." The Trill grimaces, and shakes his head, "They aren't moving right for us... yet. I'll try and improve my resolution so I can get some targetting data."
Bright moves along with Ender, Cross, and Haven, still glancing about fretfully every so often. Her lips are still pressed in a thin, worried line. "Like Hora cats," she mutters.
Ender stays close to the group, but is mostly looking ahead, "Two more and were done, Lieutenant." He seems to offer encouragingly, in that rumbling voice of his, to Bright as trundles along with his own burden. "I'm right behind you."
Cross nods his head slowly within his helmet. "Everything is going to be okay, Ensign. I know you and Lt. Bright can get them set up." He transmits over their suit coms. He hears Nilee's broadcast before looking quickly in the dark, turning to illuminate the darkness with his suit lights. "Which direction?" Asking the same that Caeli did.
Caeli shifts his rifle in his grip. "Can you paint them somehow, or make them show up on my helmet display? Something I can see?" The weapon points back and forth, searching for an unknown enemy.
Haven can't help but shot Bright a look and it's not exactly a pleasant look though it's hard to tell with the glare on her face plate. Then she's back on track and scanning the area around her.
. o O Bright thinks "I don't look that bad off, do I? Hey, why's she looking at me like --- right, nevermind."
Nilee nods his head slowly, "I think I can get something on our displays, Zip. Hold on." The Trill answers. He begins tapping at the controls and then each of the away team members' helmet imagery systems kick in. Faded red spheres can be seen through the imaging system, moving around the away team, "Ok everyone. Those red spheres, that's the area where I'm detecting our visitors. They're no closer than twenty five meters to any of us. They're stalking us like I said. This should give those of us with phasers a way to hit them should they decide to approach. Do not fire unless they approach, we don't need to provoke them."
Bright nods to Ender and keeps moving, adjusting her grip on the generator pole again. She blinks at the imagery reading. She nods. "Yes, sir. How much farther 'til the next generator placement?"
Ender returns Bright's nod with one of his own, though his expression is impossible to see behind the glow of his headlamps. He just keeps trudging along, shifting the generator from his left shoulder to his right now.
Cross looks to his faceplate as the visual appears. He looks to the nearest red dot to his position before looking over towards bright and Ender. "Five meters further. Right there." He points out a spot before he points another direction. "You need to be there with the last one. They should be exactly 25 meters apart there. Everyone just stay calm. We can do this."
Caeli immediately starts tracking the closest red sphere, looking aside to the others as they move. "Permission to open fire if they approach, sir?"
. o O Cross remembers how they loved to taunt. He remembers how they used sounds, voices and even a babies cry.

Five meters. That's all Haven needs to hear as she brings her weapon around to bare in the direction Cross indicates. A sweep left and a sweep right. She pans again and something semi-metallic catches her eye. "Freeze!" she warns softly into her com unit. "Bright.. take a step back towards me. One. Small. Step." As she speaks, she pulls her weapon around to train it on that area. Just there, low to the ground, where she sees the sparkly. "Something is there.. low.. "
Nilee continues monitoring the tracking on his tricorder. He perks up though as he hears Haven's voice over the comm. "Is everything alright back there?" He's too far away to do anything, so he can only ask.
Bright goes stiff as a board, then eases back a small step, gulping as she does so.
Ender freezes when instructed to do so. He moves only enough to give Bright room to take her small step back. He then stoops slightly to aim his head lamost a half step ahead of Bright, scanning low.
"If you seeing them attacking the Away Team, permission is granted to fire." Cross answers Caeli's question. He looks in Haven's direction as she calls out. He looks at her position and then on his faceplate. "I'm not getting a red dot." He says, heading in their direction to back them up. "Mister Ender. Go for the other position. We'll worry about that one last."

. o O Cross thinks "Got to keep them moving, got to get this job done and them back safely."
Over Cross's com badge, Takamura says, "Lieutenant Cross, what is your situation?"
Into his com badge, Cross says, "Mister Nilee is tracking multiple objects, you might be able to access his tricorder data. Mister Haven seems to have found...something where we need to plant the second generator. We are trying to id it now. I'm already ordering the third one placed while we wait."
Caeli keeps at his job, that is, watching the red dots and making sure they don't advance any farther.
<CONTEST> Haven contests her Personal Equipment (Tricorder) skill vs a difficulty of Routine and Succeeds!
Haven allows her weapon to fall somewhat slack as she concentrates on her tricorder for a moment. After a scan, she frowns, then begins to speak into her com unit. "I'm not sure what it is but I'm picking it up on my tricorder. There is a power source and a very weak gravitic field which is holding it to the asteroid's surface. It's very much like a Ferengi power cell.. but it's not."
Nilee grimaces as he hears the reports from the rest of the team, he speaks over his comm, "It isn't holding any plasma is it? The weapons we encountered here before were plasma-based."
Bright murmurs, "There's something low to the ground. Eleven, twelve meters... Twelve, yes. It's an object, perhaps - about the size of a small hatch door." She shakes her head. "It's either part of the asteroid or clamped to it, like our generators. It's approximately four meters off from where the new generator needs to go. Is it a mine...?"
Ender crackles back over the com, "Yes, sir. On my way, sir," to Cross. He then looks to Bright, to the spot she indicated and back to her, and offers, "You'll be fine, Lieutenant." A glance of swiveling headlamps at Haven and then he's off, hefting the generator, toward the last generator position Cross had indicated.
. o O Bright thinks "I really wish he'd stop doing that."
Cross moves after Ender, making sure he is covered, looking out for red dots or any objects along the rocky surface of the asteroid. He has the phaser ready, just in case. "That or it might be a hatch for a plasma weapon platform. I felt the brunt of one of those last time I was here." He comments over the channel.
Caeli offers up over the suit comms, "Wasn't a Ferengi vessel disabled here a month or two ago? Maybe the asteroid adapted some scrap equipment." Still he keeps scanning the red dots, watching them as they circle.
Haven frowns as she casts a look at Bright. With a few careful steps, she gets closer as she scans again. There is alot of 'it could be' and 'maybe it's a' ect. She wants to know.. especially if it's a weapon. The last thing she wants is a plasma hit where she sits.
<CONTEST> Haven contests her Personal Equipment (Tricorder) skill vs a difficulty of Routine and Fails!
Nilee grimaces, clearly feeling helpless. Not only is he too far away, but his tricorder is tied up monitoring one threat. He doesn't have the resources to check out a new threat. He simply glances over to Zip, and then down to his tricorder, and then up again, checking on their visitors.

Over Cross's com badge, Takamura says, "Away Team, what is your status?"
Bright makes a scan of her own on her tricorder, eyeing the thing on the ground. "Small, weak power sources, possibly Ferengi or Ferengi-influenced. There's something... the rocks around this. The ground around it has been gouged or damaged in an unnatural way."
Ender keeps his eyes and headlamps on the ground infront of him, not what's going on back with Bright, occationaly glancing at his neutrino scanning tricorder clamped to his free wrist. Set the big man on something and he does it.
Into his com badge, Cross pauses momentarily before he response. "Still working on setting up the generators, Paine. Can you scan our area for Ferengi signatures? We might have have stumble across some hull plating."
Cross nods his head in Caeli's direction before he looks to Ender, pointing out the spot. "There. Set up there."

. o O Bright thinks "I really wish we could just get the generators set up and leave. There are things circling and now there's a hatch or something. Except nothing's happened yet. I'm very sweaty in this suit."
Haven just shakes her head and goes back to watching their area for bad bad guys (tm). Whatever is on the ground, she's not getting anything more from her tricorder.
Nilee quirks his lips to the side, "I don't get it. Their behaviour is... different. I thought they would have attacked by now." He says to no one in particular, "Not that I'm complaining of course."
"I'm not complaining either," Bright says. "Does this mean they aren't hostile?"
Ender quickens his pace to where Cross indicates. He arrives and immediately goes to one knee, planting the generator in the same motion. His hands flick over the control panel and then he moves to raise the emitters. The panel buzzes negatively at him and Ender curse in what sounds like Klingon. He pops a panel on the side and peers in, "Wait one, Lieutenant." His hands fiddle nervously inside the panel, then close it. He resets the controls and hauls on the emitter once more.

As the second generator (actually the third) is planted, Cross watches out the bioweapons react with the new field. He sighs to himself, watching the creatures further. "Make one step and I'll fire..." He murmurs at the closest one. "Haven, Bright. Did you get that? Sound safe to me. Plant the last one."
Over Cross's com badge, Takamura says, "Away Team, we confirm all generators are online. What is your situation?"
Caeli follows a particularly frisky red dot with his rifle barrel. "Sooner we're out of here, the better."

Haven nods a bit, "Aye. Copy that, Sir." She glances at Bright then forgoes the tricorder for the weapon alone. No bugs are going to stop Bright from setting that last generator. Not if this Bajoran has anything to say about it.
Bright steps over to plant the generator and activate it quickly and efficiently.
Nilee looks up and watches the red blurs move around the perimeter, "They're getting closer... moving in." He states, though it's obvious to everyone. He looks down at his tricorder, "What the?!" he suddenly asks, "I'm detecting Dopterian DNA. Those gouges... claw marks. From our visitors, no doubt. Looks like the Dopterian got caught unaware."
