O'Carroll steps into the infirmary, off duty as indicated by her white attire. She takes a few more steps inside, eyes scanning the room for someone or something in particular.

Albertz is sitting at one of the Medical Library's terminals, the really big one...usually occupied by Malloy. Almost all of the library's displays are in use. Some display images of a microbe, on others reams of data scroll past, on still others the computer runs models and simulations. Albertz is tapping away, occasionally making notes on a large PADD and most often glancing at the many displays.

<CONTEST> Albertz (claiming advantage) contests his Medical Sciences (Pathology) skill vs a difficulty of Moderate and Succeeds!

O'Carroll continues scanning the room, eyes not falling on Albertz for a few seconds. As soon as she notices the Scot at the terminal, she begins walking over towards him. Not sneaky like, but just quiet, not wanting to derail whatever train of thought he has on his work.

Albertz is rather immersed in his work. The infirmary has been a rather busy place this week, 'quiet' not being the word to describe it. Now that it is, he's taking this opportunity to make hay while the sun shines. He keeps on looking and writing and looking some more. Occasionally he'll say something quietly to himself, working over the problem out loud as well. He does let out a surprised grunt at something and keeps on working.

<CONTEST> Albertz (claiming advantage) contests his Medical Sciences (General Medicine) skill vs a difficulty of Routine and Succeeds!

O'Carroll watches the display over the Scot's soulder for a moment. Not really wanting to make him jump, she slowly moves over to his side, eyes still glancing over the various displays. She then attempts to mentally 'Will' Albertz to notice her.. futile, yes, but it helps. Maybe.

Albertz doesn't notice Ally. He's not a Betazoid and not a ninja, so wrapped up in his work he is that he'd probably not notice a core breach right about now. He reaches up and taps his combadge, sliding his chair backwards as he does so. Hard.

Albertz taps his comm badge, "Ensign Albertz to Lieutenant JG Harris."

Vala arrives from the mall, the infirmary's outer transparent aluminum doors sliding silently closed behind her.

Vala has arrived.

Over Albertz's comm badge a voice answers, "Lieutenant JG Harris here."

Vala quietly enters the infirmary.

Into his comm badge, Albertz says, "Aye, Rab...I was wondering if I could ask a favour of ye?"

From Albertz's comm badge, Harris says, "Shoot."

O'Carroll is glad she's standing beside Albertz now, and not behind him. She offers the Scot a little wave and a polite little cough.

Albertz eyes widen as he shoots past Ally and she comes into view. That could have been close. He mouths a sincere 'Sorry' and returns to his conversation with Harris.

Into his comm badge, Albertz says, "Could you work some of yuir wonderful Operations-type magic and possibly grab the maintenance logs for the ship that transported Cadet Torin here. I'm looking for any replicator problems in particular."

From Albertz's comm badge, Harris pauses for a moment. "Yeah, I guess so. Any kind of problems, or just all of them?"

O'Carroll clasps her hands behind her back, waiting patiently for the conversation with absent minded Harris to conclude.

Into his comm badge, Albertz says, "Well, I'm not quite certain. It'd just be problems wi' the replicator malfunctioning."

From Albertz's comm badge, Harris is already at work, his computer chirping happily away. "I'll let you know what I find, Hamish."

Into his comm badge, Albertz says, "Much appreciated, Rab. Albertz out."

Albertz reaches up and taps his comm badge, ending transmission.

Albertz begins rolling back to the Medical Library, dragging himself by the heels both feet at a time. "Ally! How are you? Anything I can help ye with or did you just drop by tae say hallo?"

O'Carroll smiles lightly, "I'm fine, Hammy." her eyes glance back to the library displays briefly, "I was just coming by to say hello.. and sorry about th' other night. But it looks like you're very much busy, so I'll just save me apologizin for when you're less so."

Vala notices that all is well here, and ducks back out.

Vala heads out and into the clamour of the Mall.

Vala has left.

Albertz laughs a little and looks down at the deck, clasping the back of his neck. Ah yes, the other night. Looking back up at the other Ensign, he gives her a bright, effusive smile. "Ach, /that/. I've learned my lesson. There's nawt to apologise for, Ally..."

O'Carroll shrugs lightly, "Sure there is. Even if I 'ave no idea what lesson you learned, I wasn' right to be makin' ye feel the way I did." soft smile, "So I'll apologize for it later, aye? Maybe over some shots of scotch when you next need a drink?" she offers, refreshing her smile before looking at the terminal again, "On to something with this monkey buisiness, I take it?"

Albertz nods a little, turning back to face the Library. He said there was nothing and there isn't, so that's all he's got to say about that. "Ummm...I think so. I've come across some interesting things....quite a lot, actually. Might be getting tae the bottom of this mystery. Of course," he laughs and glances over at the CMO's office "I bet Doctor Park's found the exact same things so my time would be better spent in the holodeck playing footy."

Albertz's comm badge chirrups, and a voice says, "Lieutenant JG Harris to Ensign Albertz."

Albertz taps his comm badge, "Ensign Albertz here."

O'Carroll smirks slightly, "Aye, but what if'n not? And you put Robbie on it right quick. Fast actin', lad. 'Ope it turns somethin' up fer ya." speak of the Devil.

From Albertz's comm badge, Harris says, "I got in touch with the transport Torin came in on. They'll have their maintenance logs to me within the hour, but they say that they haven't had any problems with their systems in a long time." He pauses, and there's a bleeping sound as he pulls up more information. "Something doesn't click, though. Zeppy - the monkey - didn't come in on the same transport as Cadet Torin.""

Into his comm badge, Albertz says, "/Really/? Okay then, what I need are the logs for the monkey's transport. Sorry tae lead you down a blind path, Rab. Should've been clearer from the get go. There's something from a replicator that Zephram consumed that caused this whole thing. That's why I'm asking for the logs."

From Albertz's comm badge, Harris says, "Right. I'll get those logs, then, and get back to you. Harris out."

Albertz's comm badge ends its transmission.

Albertz looks at O'Carroll and grins a bashful sort of grin. "Ach. I sent him on a wild goose chase there. I guess the devil really is in the details."

O'Carroll shrugs, smiling softly back at the Scot, "He needed th' practice anyway. An' I wouldn' have guessed they came in on seperate ships. Guess the barrel o' monkeys on Mo's transport was full." she pauses to smile a bit brighter, "An' I canna wait until this is all cleared up'n stuff. So I can stop using every monkey line in th' book, ye know? Go back to making fun of.. ah.. whatever I usually make fun of. I think it's meself." chuckle.

Albertz's comm badge chirrups, and a voice says, "Lieutenant JG Harris to Ensign Albertz."

Albertz taps his comm badge, "Ensign Albertz here."

From Albertz's comm badge, Harris clears his throat. "Okay, I spoke to Lieutenant Siha on the Rodney. Just before they got to 419, they had a problem where some people got sick on board due to a replicator error. She's sending me the logs now, and I'll have them in about an hour." There's a smile in the old man's voice. "Is that what you're looking for?"

Into his comm badge, Albertz laughs. "Aye, it is. If you weren't all the way off somewhere else, I'd kiss ye. Mmmmmwaa!" he does an exaggerated impression of a kiss. Or the sound of one at least. "In any event, I owe you a drink at the very least. Thanks alot!"

From Albertz's comm badge, Harris chuckles. "Meg takes exception to other people trying to kiss me, Hamish - but I'll take you up on the drink. I'll forward those logs when I get them. Harris out."

Albertz's comm badge ends its transmission.

O'Carroll claps in that polite, quiet way. "Well, sounds like ye got what ye wanted." she beams happily, "Anyway, I'll leave ye to your research or whatever else you 'ave left to do. Give me a hail sometime, aye?" she says, smoothing out her skirt as she prepares to head out.

Albertz is grinning after his conversation with Robert and not just because of the Meg comment either. "Well Ally, in about an hour we'll have our hands on another piece of the puzzle." The Scot rubs his hands together in anticipation, "I can hardly wait, can you?"

It's actually very very quiet in the Infirmary for the first time in quite some time. The noisy guests have been discharged, leaving only the occasional comings and goings of nurses and rather standard patients -- a child with a sprained elbow who fell in the Observation Garden, a checkup here, and so on and so forth, all being ably handled by the infirmary's on-duty staff -- and, of course, in his Level 10 Containment Field over in the corner, Zephram. The Monkey.

Park moves over toward the containment field to conduct a check on the little furry visitor. He moves quietly around to conduct his scans, which he downloads to the research station for review.

Haven follows along with Aaron, eyes on his and on the monkey. To get an idea of what he's seeing, she too scans the animal.

Park sits down at the research terminal, going quietly about the process of researching the condition and trying to come up with possible ways to treat him.

Haven takes a look over her tricorder as she completes the scans, "Hey.. look at this, Aaron. The levels of bacteria are holding steady in the monkey's body, they're not increasing. They're concentrated in the monkey's digestive system, specifically the small intestine." She perks a brow before asking. "Is that what you got as well because I find this very interesting."

Park nods and says, "Yeah, I got the same thing. And from what I can see here, if he doesn't have that bacteria, he won't be able to absorb any nutrients and will starve." He hits another couple of buttons, considering an alternative........

Haven frowns as she joins Aaron at the terminal to see what he's after. No sense in them both working over the same idea.

Park says, "My first thought was to try to synthesize healthy bacteria, at least until I looked at how complex it is. I'd say that the odds of us doing that successfully are very long."

Park hits a couple of buttons and continues, "So now if we can just find another monkey of the same species, we can get some healthy bacteria, culture it to get all that we need, flush this one's system out and insert the new stuff."

Haven perks a brow in question. Loni lives for being the under dog when it comes to medical odds but that's because he's so damn good at screwing over the booky. "Here.. let me see how complex we're talking." She gives him a nudge and teases, "Stop hogging the terminal and let me see."

Park scoots over and starts writing up a message to Ducalis Prime to find a potential donor, giving Haven a little time to work.

Haven hooks her foot about a chair and rolls it towards her. Once she's seated, she begins to work at the terminal. "You know" she comments though more to herself then to Aaron. "If we do it this way...." Without finishing, she begins to synthesize the bacteria. Once that has completed, she sets it aside, out of the way, and erects a containment field around it. "We won't know for sure until we try it but it looks good thus far. We'll need a letter of consent from Mister Torin before we do anything more. I don't think that'll be a problem, however. At least it shouldn't be. Not based on how he was last night."

Haven taps her comm badge, "Lieutenant JG Haven to Cadet Torin."

An urgent patient calls Park away, and he moves over to another part of the Infirmary to take care of their needs.

Over Haven's comm badge a voice answers, "Cadet Torin here."

Into her comm badge, Haven says, "Hi there. Hey, I need to speak with you if you have a moment. It's about Zephram. Can you come down to the infirmary?"

From Haven's comm badge, Torin says, "About Zephram? I'll be there in a few minutes, ma'm."

Into her comm badge, Haven says, "Excellent. Haven out."

Haven reaches up and taps her comm badge, ending transmission.

Torin arrives from the mall, the infirmary's outer transparent aluminum doors sliding silently closed behind him.

Torin has arrived.

Haven is sitting at the research terminal looking between the monkey and the little dish behind the newly erected containment field. When Torin steps in, she turns to him, a huge grin on her face. "Remember that promise I made? About trying to help Zephram? Well hang onto your hat because we may have just found a way to do it." Oh yeah, she's pumped.

Torin slips inside, his eyes glancing about the area warily for a moments till he catches the sound of it. Elation starts to climb, but it pauses and he nods quietly, nibbling on his lip, "Mmmmhmmm?" Hhis fingers clasping somewhat as he waits for the woman to go on.

Without going into to many of the dirty little details, Loni says, "We synthesized a bacteria.. a good bacteria. One that will hopefully replace the bacteria that he has now.. that's making people sick. If we remove the old and don't replace it.. he'll die. But.. we let this good bacteria stand over night and tomorrow, we get it into him. The down side is this.. we have to flush his system off the old bacteria which we can do on the biobeds then I'd need to do surgery.. " She sighs and places a hand on his shoulder, "I'd have to open him up and put the new bacteria into his lower intestine before it'll work." She pauses a moment then says, "But I need your permission to do it."

Torin hrmms and listens quietly. He smiles weakly, "Thought it'd be something as such. Well it's either that or he dies right?" Eyes watching the doctor for long moments and then glances to brown furball who simply looks on incomprehensing. Moroko finally adds after a moment, "If it's all that can be done, then yeah. Do it as soon as it's safe, ma'm. Just keep Lt va.....no just use whoever's best at it ma'm, I know he's 'just' a monkey and probably doesn't rate it....But..." He hmms biting his lip watching worriedly.

Haven nods a touch and says, "Dr. Park and I will discuss it and the best choice will be made." She picks up a PADD and types out a standard consent letter then hands it over to Torin. "It's the best we can do right now and I know it's far from the idea situation."

. o O Haven thinks "Over my dead body will she touch your pet. She's already said she wanted to kill him."

Torin sighs and uses the Padd and affirms it making it official however that's done. He glances to Zephram and forces a wider smile, "Keep strong bud, it's almost over man....almost." He glances to Haven, "He'll be sedated and the like, just like any other patient? I know ma'm, if you could keep looking though I'd be glad. But I understand the sooner the bacteria's neutralized the safer and better for everyon else as well."

Haven nods as she accepts the PADD back. "We will" she tells him "but I really think this is the best we can do. And yes, we'd treat him like any other patient. He may be an animal but we aren't cruel. We're trying to help. Not just him but you and everyone else on the station."

Torin smiles and nods quietly, "Of course, ma'm. You'll let me know when the surgery is started, and of course when it's done? How long do you think it will take once it's started?"

Haven shakes her head, "I'm not sure, really. To my knowledge, we've never done anything like this on the station. But I'll let you know as I get more information on the details."

Torin chuckles weakly, "No I don't suppose anything quite like this. Well I suppose in time it will work out. Thank you ma'm." He waits for a moment then asks, "Is that all, ma'm?"

Haven smiles and nods, "For now, yes. If there is anything else, I'll be sure to let you know. Oh.. and get some rest. For now, let me worry about Zephram. Deal?"

Torin laughs, "I've been resting enough. As for worrying, sorry I'm still going to. I can't help it....but if you want you can worry as well. How about that?"

Haven grins and nods, "Alright. I'll see you later, okay?"

Torin nods, "Yeah, probably. Good luck." He chuckles, "And you get some rest yourself mmm? Don't want you tired when your playing around with my monkey."

Haven grins and nods, "I'll do that." Then she turns away as his words seem to sink in differently then what was intended. Ewww.
