Donavon steps into holodeck 1 from the Dream Factory.
Donavon has arrived.
Etrik is first through the door as things start to get rolling... his sandaled feet driving deep ruts into the sand as he lumbers along with his ambling gait. "You know, I never get used to seeing holo-program backdrops. It just strikes me as jarring to walk through a bulkhead from a space station to a beach or forest. It's a great program, but it's like getting hit with a slice of lemon wrapped around a large gold-plated latinum brick sometimes."
Caeli smirks as he walks in alongside the Armory Officer. "Jo, if someone hit me with a gold-plated latinum brick, I'd take the beating, heal up, and then buy myself a /private/ holodeck." A grin is shot to the shorter man, both security officers walking into the 'deck in obnoxiously loud colored Hawaiian shirts.
Dakin walks into the 'suite alongside his wife, dressed in civilian grab of apparent Bajoran design. "Interesting analogy, Josiah," he idly comments as his kicks off his boots and pulls off his socks. His attire is muted almost in the extreme, especially in the wake of Caeli's and Etrik's.
Leah enters in appropriate attire, that is tropical climate clothing, with a huge backpack on her shoulders. On closer inspection it's not really a backpack, but a carrier for two babies, the twins. Stepping inside with Dakin at her side, she smiles over at him, "This is impressive... I've never seen a sequel."
Idrani steps into holodeck 1 from the Dream Factory.
Idrani has arrived.
The night is crystal clear and beautiful, without a trace of humidity in the holographic sky. The night is a little chilly but not cold - it's one of those late summer nights that are so beautiful to be out in. A large campfire is in the center of the beach, with a spit set up over it. A hock of an animal's leg is roasting over the spit, glistening as if lacquered with the baste. Around the fire is a ring of stones to contain it, and a larger ring about two meters outside of it upon which to to sit against, or on. A surfboard is leaning up against one of the outside stones, with a bag of gear. Pineapples, mangoes, kiwi and what Caeli instantly identifies as a gobba fruit from Bolarus, are all spread out for the taking in baskets that are stuffed with tropical flowers. Stabbed into one of the fruits in each basket is a knife. The smell of the roasting beast floats up the beach, and it smells delicious.
Must be a security gathering for here appears another officer - Meg Donavon. Coffee mug in hand, chilled now, she arrives ready to kick off those sandals and tan before the fire. Silence is kept as she observes the interplay between officers. Lips press to the mug during a sip.
Idrani strolls in, a little late to the party. She glances around, looking to see who is doing what and where.
Etrik's grousing is all bluff; he's smiling, which means he's probably just being ridiculous. "Zip, there's this great saying -- no, I didn't hear it from Uncle Finn. You'd probably appreciate it though." As the group approaches the blazing fire, he quotes, "'A little nonsense now and then, is relished by the wisest men.'"
O'Rielly steps into the holodeck, glancing around at the program, knowing tonight is supposed to be the big night, besides the competition. He glances around looking like a man in need of relaxation.
Dakin smiles to Morgan as he leans over and checks on the kids for a couple seconds. "Good thing this one seems to measure up to the original."
Leah turns slightly, "Want to bring them out for a bit?" she asks of Dakin, peering towards the fire. "Something smells /delicious/."
Caeli grins to Etrik, then catches sight of the fruit platter. Whooooa nelly. "Excuse me a moment?" A few quick steps lead Zip to the basket of bright blue gobba fruit as he plucks one from the pile and turns it over in his hand. Perfect. Refreshment taken care of for the moment, he meanders over to Dakin and Leah. "Rann... good to see you here." Looking to Leah, he rests one elbow in the other hand and taps the gobba fruit against his chin. "Judging by the sheer beauty, your proximity to Rann, and the twins, is it safe to assume you're Mrs. Chief of Security?" A bite from the juicy blue mango thing follows, exposing the bright green interior.
Tyler comes out of the Pavilion followed by four dark-skinned girls in hula skirts. In her Hawaiian shirt, followed by the skimpily-clad women, she looks like a Lounge Act Waiting To Happen. One of women is carrying a big kettle, and the others are carrying bowls and utensils. Tyler says, "Hi! Come on in, have a seat. Dinner will be served shortly. Help yourself to some fruit?" She makes her way towards the fire, where she coordinates the pot being placed on a stone near it.
Idrani approaches O'Rielly, perhaps sensing a kindred spirit, as the young Andorian is also known for having a lot on her mind. "Evening." she says quietly.
O'Rielly glances to Idrani as she comes up. "Oh, evening Lieutenant. Doing better I hope?"
Fruit, sweet, coffee, bitter. Donavon glances between her cup and the yonder plates. Shoulders shrug, why not both? To the fire pit she traveres, barely turning an eye at the folks. Fingers pluck a pineapple piece and is tossed into her mouth. She grins..ah heaven.
Idrani inclines her head. "Been better. Been worse. How about you?"
O'Rielly glances towards Idrani again, "About the same."
Dakin nods to Leah and is in the midst of unstrapping Ryasharra from her backpack as Caeli approaches. "That would be correct, Zip. Nulara, this is Zip Caeli, my tactical duty officer. Zip, my wife Morgan..." He pauses as he finally detaches his daughter and scoops her up. "Our daughter Ryasharra, and the one still belted in is our son Jacob."
Etrik snags a kiwi, looking at it with interest before splitting it in half with the knife in the basket. Watching Tyler and the hula girls approach, his craggy face splits in an even bigger grin. "If this is any indication of things to come, it's going to be a good evening." He ambles over toward Donavon, nodding at her as he pulls a sliver of the kiwi's flesh from the rind and chews on it contemplatively.
Idrani nods, understanding. "Let's get something to eat then, and try to avoid talking about work," she says quietly. "I think we both could use the reprieve."
Another piece of fruit is dutifully delivered into her mouth followed by the strange combination of her tar like coffee. Meg notices another pair of fingers upon the plate, then steers an eye in that direction. Her chin lowers, head bobbed in greeting. "Evening. Pineapple is sweet enough."
O'Rielly smiles for the first time. He looks up towards the pavilion. "I agree Lieutenant. A break we both need, though I somehow doubt this one night will be enough."
Tyler gets the pot settled down. The hawaiian-skirted women set out the bowls on a serving-rock. Their carrying work completed, they stay along the fringe of the party to take drink orders, and fetch said drink orders from the Pavilion. Tyler dusts off her hands and approaches the fire to take a seat near her gear. She smiles to Idrani, "Hi. Make yourself comfortable, the luau ladies will see to the rest, they will be serving us." Speaking of which, two of them hoist up the leg of whatever-beast-that-was and enter the Pavilion with it. She smiles at O'Rielly. "We all have needed a break," she says, picking up a kiwi and a knife. She begins to peel it.
Leah treats Caeli with a smile, holding out a hand. "Hello hello... pleased to meet you... Zip..." she says the name hesitantly, testing it out. "Help me with Jacob...?"
Idrani smiles back at O'Rielly, "Probably not. But we'll take the breaks when we can get it." She sees Tyler then, smiles back. "Hello. This all looks very delicious, but I'm afraid I'm not familiar with some of these fruits. Oh, and congratulations to the RRT for their victory last night."
Etrik grins, hunkering down before sitting, looking not unlike a garden gnome sans hat in a -very- odd place. "Probably because you're not having to run ragged," he advises Meg. "After all, it always tastes better when you have the time to enjoy it." He places a drink order, before gnawing away at his kiwi some more.
Dakin smiles and bounces his daughter a little as he whispers to her in that proud-papa voice, pointing out towards the fire.
Caeli smiles warmly, clasping Leah's hand between both of his for a moment before responding, "And you as well." He lifts Jacob carefully from the sling, cradling the younger Dakin along his left arm as he shakes the child's hand with two of his fingers. "Hello, Jacob." he veritably coos at the child with a broad smile on his face, the gobba fruit kept in the crook of his arm. "It's good to meet you after hearing so many of your father's stories."
O'Rielly looks to Idrani a little more closely, as though he is noticing something odd. Whatever it is, he doesn't say. He glances to Tyler, "Yes we do, though some still more than others." He then says to Idrani, "Sometimes that's all we can do."
Teeth firmly planted in the fruit, Meg swallows the juices that flow first, then the entire pineapple piece. "What makes you think I haven't run ragged yet?" Eyes glitter back against the firelight as the woman slinks down to a sitting spot. "Moments ago, I finished another jog around the Station. That doesn't include patrols." To a hula girl an order is placed.
Roxsati steps into holodeck 1 from the Dream Factory.
Roxsati has arrived.
Tyler smiles to Idrani broadly. "Thank you, Lieutenant. I think the prospect of having to clean up after tonight kept them on their toes," she says. "I cooked all of this on the Aegis. You should see what I had to go through to get a fire for a roast." She slices off a thin chunk of kiwi but doesn't put it into her mouth yet. She looks over towards Etrik and Donavon. "I don't think we've met. I'm Wendy Tyler," she says, waving the remaining hunk of fruit at them. At least it's not the knife hand.
Idrani nods. "We can only do our best, Lieutenant O'Rielly. I think that's been my mantra." She starts collecting fruit, apparently taking the experimental route. "I'm sure this will be delicious, Lt. Tyler."
Roxsati travels up the rocky path to the diving cliffs.
Roxsati has left.
Roxsati comes down the rocky path and onto the beach.
Roxsati has arrived.
Leah clasps Caeli's hand briefly. When he takes Jacob, she reaches into a pocket of the carrier and pulls out a holocamera. Guess who's getting their picture taken. She snaps two right away, one of Dakin and Ryasharra and one of Caeli with Jacob. Proud mama grin on her face as she does so, of course.
Roxsati travels up the rocky path to the diving cliffs.
Roxsati has left.
Roxsati comes down the rocky path and onto the beach.
Roxsati has arrived.
Roxsati steps through the palm fronds and into the pavilion.
Roxsati has left.
O'Rielly looks at the food and the people, "I'll be nice and let other people go first."
Roxsati comes out of the pavilion, palm fronds closing behind him.
Roxsati has arrived.
Roxsati steps out of the holodeck.
Roxsati has left.
Dakin looks over to Leah as he gets snapped and smiles. "I *knew* you were going to bring that. Well, shall we join the others?"
Etrik smiles at Meg. "Yes -- but you're doing a good job, so it's worth it." At Tyler's greeting, he looks to her and smiles, raising his hand in a wave. "Josiah Etrik. Good to meet you." He looks at the roasting... uh... leg. "Out of idle curiousity, what animal is that, anyways?"
Caeli blinks at the sudden light, but then grins. "I think those are going to have to go up in the office. Boost departmental morale and all." He only nods in agreement with Dakin's suggestion.
"Not my best but it'll do for now," provides Meg in an aside to Etrik. Teeth appear as she smiles at the hostess of the evening. "Megan Donavon. It's a pleasure. Certainly glad RRT found time to create this place. It's been a God send for a little R&R."
Idrani loads up her plate with food, not being shy and apparently being quite hungry. "I'm not waiting." she says, with a half-smile.
O'Rielly nods and smirks, "Then you can be the official taster. If you don't pass out after your first bite, we assume it's safe until you do." Wow, it actually sounds like this is in a joking tone, which you'd hardly ever hear from O'Rielly
Leah nods eagerly, "Let's go join the others... I'd like some of that pineapple..." She winks at Caeli, "I'll make copies and send them over..." Then she walks on over to the feast, unburdened by any children, woo!
Idrani mms softly. "It wouldn't be a good test. I'm Andorian, you're human. Physiologies are far too different, too many variables. If I were you, I'd wait until Lt. Etrik eats, then see if /he/ passes out." She says helpfully. "You'll probably get more reliable data." She grins at Etrik.
Dakin comes over to the larger group, cradling his infant daughter in his arms, Leah and Caeli (with Rann's son) not too far alongside. "'Evening, everyone."
Etrik chuckles as things get rolling in full force... devouring the rest of the kiwi before levering himself up onto his feet. "Let's go ahead and load up," he says to Meg, before catching what Idrani says. "I heard that, Jaylas, and I'll have you know I haven't been poisoned since... oh, 1300 hours."
Roxsati steps into holodeck 1 from the Dream Factory.
Roxsati has arrived.
Tyler smiles slightly to Etrik and swallows a piece of kiwi. "It's ham. That particular ingredient was replicated. But replicated raw." She stretches out and says to Donavon, "The core program is actually about five years old. We brought in some other programs and merged them into the ocean physics and surfing programs. All in all, we spent a couple of days on it."
Caeli winks once at Leah before turning to Etrik. "How many times are you going to make me apologize for that, Jo?" he grins broadly before turning and saying something nonsensical.. or Bolian.. to the child in his arms.
O'Rielly grins as Etrik still appears to be fine, not paying attention to Tyler's eating, as she could be eating decoy food. "Well, it looks safe, but I'll let the others go ahead." He moves over so he can get in line for the food.
Idrani finishes getting her food. Fruit yes, oh and meat, too! Terran pig. "Good evening," she replies to Dakin. Balancing the plate carefully, she moves away from the table, looking for a place to sit and eat.
A thin eyebrow arches when hearing the present conversation. "Poisoned?" she whispers, then shrugs. Heck, she was almost tortured upon her arrival to the Station. Donavon nods at Tyler. "Great idea either way. Going to honey the roast?"
The grass-skirted hula ladies open the large pot, and inside the sweet aroma of beans baking begins to swallow the campfire. The ladies serve up bowls of steaming baked beans. They begin to pass them out to everyone. Tyler, having finished her kiwi, sets her knife on the rock she leans against. She throws the rinds of the fruit into the fire and takes her bowl as it is served. As for the beans themselves, they are sweetly spiced and have a cinnamon aroma.
Etrik looks amusedly at Meg. "I'm kidding." Getting a plate as well, and starting to load up, he sniffs at the roasted ham. "That does smell wonderful, though. Far better than Zip's socks, which was what he tried to poison me with." And just in time, a luau girl brings him his mug, brimming with stout.
Leah mmms at the cinnamon smell those beans are giving off, reaching for some pineapple before she looks to Dakin, "Old Lady Poole would /love/ that smell, I think... when I went to the training office that one time, that's what it smelled like... obsessed little woman.." She smiles amiably, popping some fruit into her mouth. "Want me to hold them while you two eat?... " she looks between Caeli and Dakin.
O'Rielly has his plate of food delivered to him, and he moves to follow Idrani, lacking anywhere else really to sit.
Dakin looks over at the bowl of beans is set before him and nods to his wife as he carefully starts to pass Ryasharra over to her mother. "Sure, nulara, let me know when you're ready and I'll take her again..."
Bowl freely accepted by one of the hula girls, Meg plants it near her feet. "How poisonous were those socks? That way I know to steer clear of them." Eyes stare across the firepit to catch notice of Caeli's reaction.
Idrani smiles as O'Rielly sits by her. "So are you from Terra? Have you ever been to Hah-why-ee?"
Tyler asks Leah over a spoonful of beans, "How old are the kids now, Morgan?"
Caeli looks to Leah, smiling slightly and waiting for Ryasharra to be dealt with before handing Jacob over. He politely refuses the bowl, instead choosing to resume his consumption of the gobba fruit. After a bite is swallowed, he grins across the firepit to Donavon. "Meg, I've seen your quarters, and /I'm/ not the one with clothes strewn about." He turns back to Leah, quickly, saying "I'll be glad to help as well, when you need it. Just let me know."
O'Rielly sits down with Idrani and smirks as he hears her phonetically speak out the name of Hawaii. "Can't say I have. spent most of my time either in Ireland, or the west coast of North America."
Etrik lets out a deep chuckle as he grins over at Caeli as well. "You could peel the paint off a starship hull with them." Done teasing Zip for the moment, he bolts down a chunk of roasted meat, chewing with gusto before swallowing. After a long pull from his mug, he raises it wordlessly to Tyler in salute.
Leah accepts Ryasharra, cradling her in one arm. She finds a seat and cradles Jacob in her other arm. "Nothing to worry about Zip, I have these two troublemakers under control... I was security, once upon a time." She looks to Tyler and smiles, "Two months and some change... they haven't slept the night through yet... One always wakes up the other..."
Dakin takes a bite of his beans and nods in approval as he watches the exchange between his wife, Tyler, and Zip.
Donavon grumbles with lips curling. "It was /one/ shirt not a wardrobe, but at least..." Teeth clamp together. She isn't going to breech that subject. Pineapple is chewed as she chuckles. "Good to know if I need paint stripper."
The hula girls come back out with racks of kabobs. Chunks of the roasted pork are mingled with tomatoes, green peppers, pineapple and mushrooms. They place the racks upon the spit and begin to turn them, basting them slightly with a golden sauce. Tyler finishes her beans and sets the bowl on the rock. She looks at Leah and arches an eyebrow. "Has it affected your job at all? Besides the Ops transfer, that is."
Idrani begins sampling the different fruits. "When I was in the Academy, my squad tended to sneak away to the South America continent for weekends. It was very interesting. At one time, I had lost a bet with my squad leader Cadet Darnarlo... he's just been promoted to Lieutenant, I heard. Anyway, I had lost this bet and I had to go stand in the ocean, go in up to my waist. We were at... Belize. I had to get -very- drunk before I did it. But I did."
Caeli nods in agreement with Tyler's question. "Are you on active duty, or light, or have you been relieved altogether?" Another bite from the gobba fruit, and the long blue tongue flits out to stop the greenish juice on its travels down his chin.
O'Rielly looks slightly confused at the comment, "Why did you have to get drunk before you did it? Going and standing in the ocean isn't that bad. I did it near Seattle, that's quite a few kilometers north of San Francisco, where the ocean is much colder than where you were."
Tyler asks Idrani, "Yeah, what is it about the ocean that's so bad?"
Leah looks back to Tyler, shaking her head. "I'm on maternity leave actually..." With a gaze full of longing at the gobba fruit Caeli's devouring, she sighs, "Contemplating requesting a placement into the reserves..."
Etrik chuckles at Meg. "Don't worry about it. There are worse things than forgetting to hang up your shirt." He smirks. "But I am not, not, NOT talkin' shop tonight. I do that enough on the clock." He looks sidelong at Donavon, and asks curiously, "Are you a colonial, or Earthborn, if I might ask?"
Dakin notices Leah's longful gaze at Caeli's fruit and asks the Bolian, "Hey, Zip, did they have any more of those fruits you're eating around here?" As he awaits the answer, he grabs himself a knife and a pineapple.
Haven steps into holodeck 1 from the Dream Factory.
Haven has arrived.
Caeli grins slightly, sitting around the fire with Leah and Dakin, among others. "I was surprised to find them here. Not many off-planet really know how good these are." As he speaks, he rises and takes a pair from the basket, tossing one to Dakin and offering one to Leah. "Trade you for Ryasharra?" He quirks a brow, the grin still residing on his face as he offers what sounds to him like a good deal.
Roxsati shuffles over towards Tyler and her companions, dragging his sandal-clad feet through the cool sand. Not wanting to intrude upon her conversation, he simply makes eye contact with her, gives her a small smile, and shoots pleasant nods towards the rest of the group.
Tyler nods to Leah as the hula girls remove the kabobs. They lay them on a plate, and begin to disburse them around. The aroma of slightly singed vegetables with a honey glaze is tempting itself, but the chunks of tender pork that melts in your mouth, that's what makes it divine. Tyler takes her kabob. "Won't you going to miss the 'fleet?"
Idrani takes a bite of pineapple. "Oceans on Andoria are very trecherous. There is a lot of seismic activity, making travel upon them very dangerous. All of the Andorian religions describe hell as drowning eternally in the ocean, being devoured by the monsters that dwell in the depths. Over the years, that has translated to something of a social phobia to my people, at varying degrees, but very few of us are comfortable with the idea of actually going into an ocean. To most of us, the idea is terrifying."
"Wasn't my shirt to hang," murmurs Donavon who narrows an eye upon Caeli thoughtfully. Consideration is tossed about, tease or not, then she merely chuckles. "Speaking of shop, just a wee question, by wearing a phaser at all times that means while swimming?" She casts a wink, knowing the answer but is in a light hearted mood. Suddenly at her side arrives her drink order, chilled whiskey. "Earthbound. Ireland to be precise."
O'Rielly nods, "ah, okay, that explains it." He smiles, "I don't think it's safe for me to tell some of my stories from the academy, especially those with squad mates." He looks down and away for a moment, frowning for a second. But then he looks up as more food arrives. "oh well."
"Let me get this straight... you're trying to pick up my daughter?..." Leah asks of Caeli with a mischevious glint in her eyes. "... Isn't she a little young for you?" Quirking a grin, she allows Caeli to take her, trading for a gobba fruit. Looking to Tyler, she answers, "I will... but... I have a new adventure... bigger responsibilities... I haven't decided yet, though... I was eyeing some of the empty medical sections... given my background... I have the training to fit in well there, I think..."
Tyler blinks at Idrani's ocean-as-hell story. "Funny," she says. "I've always found them to be just this side of heaven. Real oceans have a pretty profound spiritual effect on me. Fimdari has a nice beach. I was wondering why such a gorgeous beach was so sparsely populated." She off a tomato with a fork, spears it, and pops it into her mouth.
Etrik blinks at Meg, then laughs. "Ahh." He takes a sip of his own drink, before responding to her question. "Well, if you have a pocket to put it in, I suppose... but quite frankly, I don't think you do." His grin is a comical leer, as he pats the small beach bag he brought with him. "Besides, I don't think saltwater, even simulated, is good for Type-I's." He cocks his head. "Interesting. I always felt like a tourist when I was on Earth... I'm a colonial, so all the things you might expect a human to know, well..." He shrugs, and grins.
Dakin smiles. "Lot of options out there, Morgan. Though I think Zip can attest that I should never get behind a starship helm ever again." He knifes off a piece of the gobba fruit and samples it. "Not bad."
Idrani says, "For the most part we don't mind /beaches/. There are a lot of nice beaches on Cimera III, too. But generally, we prefer to stay on the land." She smiles. "Most of my trips to Belize, I spent dozing on the beach. It was very relaxing."
Haven steps out of the holodeck.
Haven has left.
O'Rielly smiles again, looking a little more relaxed. "It sounds like it was."
Idrani catches sight of Roxsati and gives the Axanarian a friendly wave. She bites into a piece of kiwifruit. "Oh, interesting texture." She comments.
"That's the point unless I'm to strap it to my thigh?" Meg slides her mesh jacket off, a tad warm at the near proximity to the fire. Whiskey then is tossed back as one would do to a tequila shot. Eyes blink at the kick back. "I never lived in the populated areas. Could say I missed out on the genre and fads. My family takes to older traditions. They farm."
Roxsati returns the andorian's wave as he moves to help himself to some food. "It is a pleasure to see you again Lt. Idrani." he says with a smile as he forks some tropical fruit onto his plate.
O'Rielly shakes his head, "I can't say I spent much time at the beach when I was younger. Parents were both teachers, so I was always doing something else.
Caeli grins, shaking his head slightly as he tears off a little bit of the gobba fruit and offers it to Ryasharra as a distraction from the facial ridge that she had been so busily prodding with one small index finger. "There you go, little one." he says in a soft tone as she accepts the morsel of fruit, the Bolian turning to regard Leah and Dakin. "I am doing no such thing. And to your credit, Rann, the simulation /was/ rigged. It was Kobayashi Maru on a smaller scale."
Idrani smiles as Roxsati joins them. "Lt. Roxsati, have you met Lt. O'Rielly?" To O'Rielly, "What did your parents teach?"
Tyler finishes off a piece of pork and responds to Leah, "I envy you your family, Morgan. I wish I had that kind of time to dedicate to one, myself." She then looks to Idrani and nods. "Oh, there were Andorians on Fimdari's beaches. Just not quite as many as I would have expected from a colony of its size. It didn't feel like a tourist trap, which was nice." She smiles up to Roxsati. "Oh, hi, Lieutenant," she says. "I didn't see you come in. You should have been there yesterday!"
O'Rielly glances to Roxsati for a second before answering Idrani's question. "Mom is a psychology teacher for Starfleet Medical, and dad teaches tactics at the Academy."
"You will someday, Wendy... I'm sure of it..." Morgan says cheerily. She prompts Caeli, "Rigged?... What simulation?... Who rigged what?" an eye over to Dakin, "You never said anything about something being rigged."
Leah adds, to Caeli, "Mind she doesn't choke, Zip..."
Etrik nods to Meg. "Could do that too." He regards her over the rim of his mug, the firelight casting his features into a mimicry of mountains set in a human face, like that goofy optical illusion of the 'Man on Mars' formation. "I can relate. Yggdrasil's not exactly the center of culture. A lot of 'Yggs' go into the mining industry there; there's always a need for the metals used for hull alloys."
Idrani tries some of the ham. "So you were probably well introduced to the Academy, before you started?" She says to O'Rielly.
Dakin shrugs. "Not much to talk about. Zip and I and some others were in a sim on the Constitution-class Enterprise during their first encounter with the Romulans. What none of us knew was that the sim was rigged so that the Bird-of-Prey we encountered had the maneuverability and durability of a Defiant-class escort. So naturally, we got ourselves vaporized."
Belar comes back toward shore from the clear waters of the Lagoon and wades to shore out of the tidal breaks upon the sand.
Belar has arrived.
After filling his plate and finding a fruity, umbrella drink of some sort, Roxsati returns O'Rielly's glance and nods. Turning to Tyler, "Yes. Perhaps I'm mistaken but I hear that the RRT did well? Sadly I was caught up in some training exercises and couldn't attend." With that he trys a piece of meat from his plate.
O'Rielly nods, "Oh yes. Perhaps a little too much. It's what happens when you're a starfleet brat. I was mostly homeschooled since my parents were both teachers."
The campfire's flames lick up at the sky. Tyler says to Leah, "I hope you're right, Morgan." She smiles at her, then concentrates on her food, downing some pineapple and pork.
Leah snorts at that, "Like a Bird-of-Prey could ever move like a Defiant... have you /seen/ one of them move?" She prompts some more, "Who rigg.... oh... Isole?... Wait, no.. Isole wouldn't do that." There's that innocense. It's cute really. She looks like a cadet. "Isole is so sweet."
Belar swims through the water towards the shore, lazily and languidly.
Caeli nods in affirmation, keeping Ryasharra mostly upright to prevent her from choking. "Gwen ticked Ms. Arnan off a bit, and the latter stormed off the bridge and modified the simulation. We never had a chance." He keeps a close eye on the child, using his new Combat Medic training. To prevent choking. Yeah, right.
Dakin grabs himself a kabob and hands a second one to Morgan. To Caeli, he adds, "Thanks for sparing me having to ask which of us was going to break the bad news, Zip."
Idrani smiles at O'Rielly. "I suppose I can see where that would happen. I'm curious as to your impression of the benefits of homeschooling. Did it inhibit some of your socialization, when you were younger?"
Leah nibbles at the kabob, looking down at Jacob. She speaks to the baby, quietly, "Isole wouldn't do something like that."
Donavon quiets a moment to listen into the conversation about the holoadventure. Beans are scooped up to eat during so. Then she mutters to Etrik, "Alloys? Oh that must have been why you chose the armory?"
O'Rielly nods slowly while eating some more of his food, "Well, I did get to set my own course schedule, which worked well for me, as I finished early. My parents chose to enrol me in sports to get past that little issue of social inhibitions, but that had problems of its own."
Etrik shakes his head. "Actually, no. I was originally slated for logistics and quartermaster work, till I went on my cadet cruise. Then I found out that lifting boxes of emergency rations was -boring-." He nibbles on a kabob, before continuing. "So I went back, changed my specialty to Security, and graduated a little later than expected. Figured being an armory officer would be more interesting than a quartermaster."
Caeli shrugs, quirking both brows. "Well /I/ certainly didn't do it." the remainder of the gobba fruit is set on a nearby rock as he accepts a kabob of his own, munching quietly on a bit of pepper.
Idrani nibbles on some vegetables before trying the beans. "Oh. I like how these smell." She comments, enjoying the entire experience of the meal, as common for her people. "What problems?" she asks O'Rielly. Direct curiousity, another Andorian trait.
Belar steps up on shore. "Computer, a towel, please." One materializes in her hand, and she begins to dry her hair off with it gently.
Dakin sighs and nods as he munches on his own kabob. "No one else had the requisite knowledge."
O'Rielly looks almost embarassed as he says below his breath, "Cheating kids."
Leah keeps on nibbling and shaking her head. Nope. Can't believe it. She sets down the kabob and tickles Jacob's ridged nose, trying to get her mind off the subject.
Donavon hollers out to Caeli and Dakin, "She said it was out of fun." Then back to eating the kabob and drinking whiskey. "Isn't a quartermaster almost the same as an armory officer? You both keep stock in check."
Idrani inclines her head, peering at O'Rielly, curious. "Oh." That's all she says.
O'Rielly says, "I didn't expect kids to be cheating while learing Paresi Squares."
Caeli shrugs as he swallows the pepper, bouncing Ryasharra slightly to the young half-Bajoran's delight. "It's a moot point, at any rate. You should bring these two by the office more often, Morgan. Maybe they could even get Lt. Novairen to crack a smile."
The hula-skirted women begin to clean up the dishes as they are discarded and are sure to top off the drinks as they diminish. Tyler takes a drink of water from her sports bottle,, and sets it down beside her. She finishes off her kabob while admiring Dakin's family from across the fire.
Idrani takes another bite of the beans. "Competition can be healthy, as long as it is kept in perspective. Otherwise you end up with bitterness from those on the losing end. It's too bad, really."
Dakin smiles and rolls his eyes back. "Oh, Prophets forbid, Zip. I've seen Vulcans with cheerier demeanors."
Leah elicits a gurgle, which might possibly be a giggle, from Jacob, smiling down at him. "I'm sure Aunt Isole meant nothing by it... yes, I am...." she says in baby talk, then looks up, coincidentally into Tyler's eyes.
Tyler replies to Idrani, "It's why we're holding the dinner tonight. Though I was hoping more winners and the losers would show up."
O'Rielly nods in response to Idrani's comment, while eating some of his own beans. "Of course. But it was a lesson I needed to learn. Not one I wanted to learn, but one it was best all the same."
Etrik cocks his head at Meg. "I suppose. I don't know, really. I suppose I was looking for ... a door, as needed. You know, for all the stress that security gets, I wouldn't have it any other way. I -like- helping people, and there's only so much you can do as a quartermaster. I guess I was looking to do more."
Idrani murmurs to O'Rielly, "Loss of innocense is always a difficult lesson." To Tyler, "It's good to have these social gatherings, if only to remind everyone that despite differences we might have with one another, we're all on the same team."
O'Rielly whispers to Idrani, "although sometimes we aren't, that's when the problems come."
Caeli laughs at that, Ryasharra following suit as the expressive Bolian face amuses her. "Come on, Rann. Not even the Vulcan Ranger could resist these two. You should loan them out to Sharra's office for therapy sessions."
With her hair dried, Belar wraps the towel around her waist and begins walking further up on the beach sands.
Idrani flicks her antennae toward O'Rielly. Idrani whispers to O'Rielly, "I suppose you're right."
Dakin grins and shrugs to Caeli. "Anything's possible."
Donavon nods sagely, dipping her head to yank a hunk of ham off the stick. She chews, swallows, and washes it with whiskey. "Help is appreciated. Can't say I wasn't a wee bit disappointed that my training halted for armory, but certainly glad we have someone to fill that position. Plus, I feel a lot safer knowing the phaser are being accounted for."
Leah winks over at her husband, but is quiet for now, a contemplative look on her face as she looks into the fire.
O'Rielly just nods very slowly to Idrani, a look on his face that he's completely serious, while eating some more of the food.
Stewart steps into holodeck 1 from the Dream Factory.
Stewart has arrived.
Belar strolls across the beach lazily, a towel worn around her hips.
Idrani is quiet for a moment, finishing off the fruit and vegetables.
Tyler looks at Idrani when she comments on the whole team thing. "Exactly," she says. She sets her plate aside and the hula girls sweep in to sweep it away. "RRT is just trying to find its place now that the war is over and their services don't seem quite as necessary. It's caused some tension, yes, but I like to think we're healing those wounds." She casts a glance to Lt. Dakin, before taking another sip of her water.
Caeli is similarly quiet, continuing to softly bounce Ryasharra in his arms.
Etrik nibbles on the mushroom remaining on his skewer before jabbing it point first into the sand for a pickup. "Well... dammit, I said I wasn't gonna talk shop. So I'm -not- going to cry on your shoulder about all the Type-I's still needing to be picked up." He downs the last of his stout, and grins impudently at Meg. "Not that I wouldn't -mind- crying on your shoulder, but..."
Idrani looks over at Tyler. "I've always had a healthy respect for the Rapid Response program. I tried to get in, at the Academy, but I didn't make the cut."
Dakin smiles and leans over to give Morgan a brief kiss on the cheek. As he leans back, he turns slightly and notices Tyler's gaze on him. Minimal otherwise reaction.
O'Rielly looks to Tyler and Idrani, "I was given an offer for the RRT. Of course, most in our squad were given some of the more choice offers for positions."
Leah smiles happily at the kiss from Dakin and settles a little more comfortably in her seat, cradling Jacob. She follows Dakin's look back to Tyler, whom she looks at again. Furrowing her brow a bit, she forces herself to look into the fire again.
Donavon shakes her sweker in Etrik's direction. "There's no crying in Security. So don't come to me with crocodile tears." Teeth snap off a roasted pineapple, chewed with utter delight. "I put on the report, if you need help, I'm willing to acquistion the floating Type I's."
Tyler gives Lt. Dakin a smile before returning her attention to Idrani. She says, "You must have missed it by a fraction, then. Honestly, I still don't make the cut. But they're very patient with me, and are toughening me up. Golden's the best," she says.
Caeli begins improvising a quiet song to Ryasharra, with a simplistic melody and nonsensical words. "Hel-lo Ry-a-sharr-a, your fa-ther shoots things, your mo-ther used to..."
Idrani half smiles at O'Rielly. "You were in Red Squad, right? With Lt. Golden?" Another bite of the ham, then she replies to Tyler. "I was doing well, right up until I found out the hard way that I get severe Zero-G sickness. That was quite embarassing. Right after that, I got the 'thanks but no thanks' message. You've got to be able to do the Zero-G work, to be on the team."
Dakin takes his attention off Tyler and looks over to Caeli, smile returning as he sees the rapport he's building with his kids.
Roxsati continues to listen to the conversation until his food is gone. His green eyebrows go up at O'Rielly's comment though he says nothing in response. The Axanarian gives a nod to Tyler's comment about Lt. Golden.
Etrik cackles evilly. "Foiled again." He sprawls back, letting one of the girls refill his mug. "Seriously, I do appreciate any help you can give in rounding up those wandering weapons. And curse you, Mr. Donavon, you've got me talking shop again." He dramatically smacks himself in the forehead, flopping back.
Stewart comes walking through the holodeck gates, not really dressed for the beach, given that he's decked out in black non-swimming gear. But hey, it's nighttime on the beach, so it's not quite that bad. He takes a moment to look around upon arrriving, and then makes his way to take a seat near the gathering that includes Tyler.
"Shop is part of life. However, you've been missing out on this holosuite." Donavon swings the remainder of her whiskey away. Eyes gleam over in warmth and satisfaction. "I highly recommend the waterfall. Great place for a little dipping."
O'Rielly nods, "Yes, Dylan and I were in the same squad, but since he had the chance to do some additional training for the RRT early, we got seperated in our last year.
. o O Leah thinks "Why are they looking at each other.... is he seeing her..."
. o O Leah feels jealous.
Caeli continues humming, a little louder now, though by no means is this intentional. "Your bro-ther Ja-cob... will prolly shoot. things. too! Aaaaaand maaaybe yoooou..."
Tyler grins as Stewart makes his way over. "Hi, James," she says. "Glad you could make it. There's some pork kabobs over there, some baked beans, and help yourself to some fruit..." She throws him a kiwi. "Sorry you couldn't make it yesterday. Rapid Response showed the fleet how it was done on land and sea."
Belar yawns softly as she heads for the arch.
Fire. Is good. To stare at. Leah's eyes shine violet as she looks on, thoughts obviously rifling through her head. Fires are good for making one do that.
Idrani asks O'Rielly, "So why did you choose SI for your career path?"
Dakin looks over to Leah with a quirked brow. Dakin whispers to Leah, "Nulara, is something wrong? You look a bit upset by something."
Roxsati smiles and offers Stewart his hand as he approaches. "Hello Mr. Stewart."
Etrik sits up again, taking a long sip from his mug. "That's an idea. Or maybe I can get them to put a Rocky Mountains program in the suites." He chortles. "Hate to revisit those places by myself, though."
O'Rielly shrugs, "Well, I looked at the RRT offer, and several others. I wasn't so much the physical type, and of course the fact that SI tries to heavily recruit you isn't something that everyone faces."
Leah puts on a smile, gaze shifting to Dakin. She blinks a few times, "Nothing... really."
Stewart catches the kiwi on the second bounce, looks at it, and then tucks it into his pocket for the moment. "Ahh, I heard that. Who all was there, exactly?" He then reaches out to extend his hand to Roxsati, "Hey. Nice to finally run into you outside of training."
Idrani half smiles, listening. "I suppose not."
Caeli concludes his tune, "And maaaybe youuuu... will tell them allll... what to do." Returning to a speaking tone, he addresses the child, "Admiral."
Belar steps out of the holodeck.
Belar has left.
Donavon's interest is piqued. "You rock climb?" Lips stretch into an eagerly anticipated smile. "It's one of my favorite pasttimes aside from hiking, running, well anything athletic." Music tickles the ears and she uplifts her head. Curious is the expression on her face while eyes just stare at her direct superior officer.
Dakin gives his wife's hand a gentle squeeze. "Okay, if you're sure."
O'Rielly says, "so I took it. I mean, I gave up on the counseling track when I got the invite to red squad, so I couldn't go back there."
Idrani ohs softly. "Counseling?"
"Of course I'm sure," Leah answers, squeezing Dakin's hand back. She does speak up though, "I think I'm going to head upstairs... the babies are probably hungry and stuff."
Roxsati shakes Stewart's hand. "Yes indeed. Quite the set up they have here huh?" he says as he waves his hand to the beach area. "Quite relaxing. Have you gotten some food yet?"
Tyler replies to Stewart, "Golden, myself, and Tak were it on our team. Poole, Park, Haven, Albertz and Thea rounded out the Starfleet team. Two people sat out of each event on their side to keep it fair. We had a pretty good time, I think. The fleet put up a solid fight, especially at the end. And you should have seen Dylan! He did a handstand on his surfboard. It was unbelievable."
Etrik hehs. "Yggdrasil's almost nothing -but- mountains, seems like; climbing sheer surfaces is one of the national pastimes. I wanted to try and make time to tackle one of the big Terran mountains after my graduation, but I couldn't snag a permit."
Dakin nods. "Yeah, you're probably right." He bites off the last of his kabob. "I think I'll come up with you. Getting kind of tired."
Caeli looks up as Leah speaks. "Time to go back to mommy." he says melodically to the child as he offers her back to her mother. "Thank you for letting me meet them, Morgan. It was a pleasure."
O'Rielly nods, "Yes, I should speak to either Ensign Nolte or Commander Poole. I'm only a few certified classes short of actually having enough of a counseling degree to qualify me as a junior counselor."
Leah stands and gives Jacob to Dakin gently, then retrieves Ryasharra. "It was nothing... you are good with kids... I think they both liked you." She smiles at Caeli, then turns, stepping over to Rann's side. "I'm ready when you are, hon."
Idrani nods. "That makes sense," she says. "And it's always good to branch out. Cross train and so forth." She glances down at the remains of her plate. "I think I'm going to call it a night. I'd like to try and get in a full sleep cycle, for once. I could probably use it."
Stewart shakes his head to Roxsati, "I ate before I came down. But yeah, quite the set up." He smiles, leaning back in the sand, and says to Tyler, "Yeah? It's pretty much just like him to pull a stunt like that. Probably not the best forum for showboating, though."
O'Rielly nods, "Very well Lieutenant. Have a good nights sleep then." He smiles after saying that.
Caeli rises, himself, and waves to those assembled. "Have a good night, everyone. If I can get eight hours now I'll be lucky."
Dakin hefts his son gently and looks over to the assemblage. "We're calling it a night, everyone. Be seeing you, thanks for having us."
Idrani gets up, smiling a little as she sees other people have the same idea. "Good night. The dinner was delicious, Lt. Tyler. I enjoyed it very much."
Tyler says to Dakin, "Thank you for coming, sir." A smile then, to Leah. "Have a good night. I hope you'll get some sleep soon. You have a beautiful family."
Idrani steps out of the holodeck.
Idrani has left.
. o O Leah thinks "I'll bet I do... and you can't have it!"
Donavon waves at those departing. "G'night. May the wind be at your backs." Eyes swivel at Etrik, excited by the prospect. "Can't say I've climbed the Rockies, but I certainly scaled the programs at the Academy."
Leah smiles Tyler's way, waving. "Good night, Wendy... thank you for the delicious meal..." She waves goodbye to the others gathered and turns, summoning the arch and departing.
Dakin nods to everyone and follows his wife and daughter out, cradling his son.
Leah steps out of the holodeck.
Leah has left.
Caeli nods in affirmation to the sentiments and echoes them himself. "Thank you, Lt. Tyler. It was excellent." And with that, he touches two fingers to his temple in salute and turns to leave, a few meters behind Dakin & co.
Dakin steps out of the holodeck.
Dakin has left.
Caeli steps out of the holodeck.
Caeli has left.
O'Rielly finishes his food as well, but doesn't seem ready to leave just yet. He moves to take a more comfortable seat, laying back against one of the lounge chairs.
Tyler grins to Stewart as she pushes herself up off the sand. She says goodbye to everyone as they leave, then says, "Well, I should be getting along too, I've got a galley to clean and duty in the morning." She dusts off her back side. "Feel free to take some of the food home. I'll be back down for the leftovers later. Thanks for coming out." She gives everyone a smile before grabbing up her gear and her board.
Etrik chuckles. "Maybe we can arrange for something then. I'll have to make some inquiries." His beach bag makes a funny whistle, and he sighs. Reaching into the bag, he presses his compin, then drops it in. "Letting me know that I need to get going if I'll be up bright and early tomorrow." He shakes his head, draining off the last of his mug and setting it aside, seeing the others departing as well. "My compliments to the chef," he inclines his head at Tyler, before grinning at Donavon. "And I'll see you on duty, most likely. Take it easy."
Donavon says, "computer time"
Roxsati smiles to Lt. Tyler as she leaves and turns back to Stewart. "Well, since RRT is histing this little shindig I will leave it to you Ensign to take care of things. I have a shift of console watching coming up shortly." With a smile and a wink. The Axanarian finishes his umbrella drink, takes a good long look out to sea, and shuffles to the exit.
Tyler grins at Etrik. "Thanks for coming out. See you around," she says.
Donavon's brow creases in thought while glancing around the holoprogram. "One thing about this place, can't tell the time. Probably is late enough for me to retire as well." The woman stands to brush off the bits of sand. "Thanks for the invite," she states to the RRT personnel. Back to Etrik, "Agreed. Get the program ready and we'll climb. First one to the top buys the other a drink?"
