The sudden beeping of an alarm goes off at the tactical station.
Dakin blinks and punches some commands. "I'm registering weapons fire on
Level 15, personal quarters room 1511... phasers and disruptors from the
signatures..."
Tahlandi groans softly, under her breath. Great.
Blair steps into the bustle of Ops from the corridor. The door slides shut
with a whisper.
Blair has arrived.
Ghorev looks up with a frown. "Whose room is that? Get a team down
there."
Idrani steps into the bustle of Ops from the corridor. The door slides shut
with a whisper.
Idrani has arrived.
Dakin nods and taps his combadge. "Dakin to Security. Dispatch a team to
Level 15, room 1511. Registering weapons fire, proceed with caution."
AFterwards, he brings up the residence manifest. "Prophets, that's Rade
Noonan's quarters."
From Dakin's combadge, a male voice answers. "Ensign Davis sir. On our
way."
Ghorev says, "What in Borva's name is that lunatic up to now?" He
moves down towards the command well. "And are we talking stun intensities
or safeties-off?"
Dakin taps more commands into his console in response to Ghorev's query.
Dakin frowns. "Safeties off. Whatever's going on, they're not playing
nice."
Ghorev sits down at Commander's.
Ghorev says, "Ensign Tahlandi, I want internal sensor readings on that
room -- what kinds of life readings are down there? Mister Blair, do what you
can to help her."
Tahlandi glances over her shoulder and nods, before quickly performing the
requested scans.
<CONTEST> Tahlandi contests her Shipboard Systems (Sensors) skill vs a
difficulty of Routine and Fails!
Idrani steps into Ops from the hallway outside.
Tahlandi frowns. "Looks like they aren't functioning... maybe they've
already been knocked out."
Dakin checks his panel. "My people've just arrived outside room
1511."
Ghorev says, "Do what you can to compensate, Ensign. Mister Blair,
continue to assist. Rann, re you in any shape to get down there yourself if need
be?"
Idrani pauses, realizing that something of an emergency is going on. She
takes position at the Science station.
Idrani sits down at Science I.
Dakin nods to Ghorev. "I think so. I believe this situation outweighs
any lecturing from Medical."
<CONTEST> Tahlandi contests her Shipboard Systems (Sensors) skill vs a
difficulty of Routine and Succeeds!
Ghorev frowns. "ONLY if you're sure."
Dakin sighs. "Admittedly not 100%. I'll go if absolutely necessary, but
I can't speak with any certainty with regards to my condition."
Tahlandi frowns. "Clearing it up a bit, sir... looks like no life signs
in there right now. And I'm picking up some epsilon radiation as well."
Idrani tries to bring up more readings from the Science station.
Dakin blinks. "Oh, Prophets..." He slaps his combadge. "Dakin
to Ensign Davis, hold positions, all of you. High radiation zone inside the
room. Stand by."
Dakin's combadge chirups. "Aye Sir. Holding position. The deck has been
cleared of personnel."
Ghorev frowns more deeply as he bolts up from the command chair. "Rann,
get the quartermaster to deliver some EVA suits to your men triple time. They
can proceed in for a physical examination as soon as they're shielded properly.
Mister Tahlandi, maximum gain and resolution on that scan. Radiation only. I
want as fine a picture as you can get of it. I want to be able to read whatever
caused that signature like a one-act play. Jaylas Idrani, since Mister Tahlandi
is busy at hte moment, I want to know what ships are in the vicinity. SOMETHING
did that."
Tahlandi nods, going to work. "Aye, sir..."
Idrani nods, "Aye, sir." She beings hitting buttons on the console.
<CONTEST> Tahlandi contests her Shipboard Systems (Sensors) skill vs a
difficulty of Moderate and Fails!
Dakin nods sharply to Ghorev, then responds to Davis. "Good job, Ensign,
stand by, we're having EVA suits delivered. Dakin out." Another tap of the
combadge. "Dakin to quartermaster. I need a number of EVA suits sent to the
security team on Level 15. Prioritize above all else."
A voice over Dakin's combadge replies, "Acknowledged, sir."
Blair slips into a console and lights it up. "Attempting to recalibrate
sensors for radiation readings, sir." And that's precisely what he does,
locating quarters 1511 and attempting to access the controls for the sensors in
that zone.
Idrani reports, "High levels of radiation in room 1511, sir. No life
signs in the room. No ships present in the immediate vicinity of S419."
Tahlandi frowns. "I'm trying to get as much as I can, sir, but the
radiation's making things difficult. It *is* weakening, though."
<CONTEST> Blair contests his Shipboard Systems (Sensors) skill vs a
difficulty of Moderate and Fails!
Blair grimaces. "Same here. First time I've seen radiation thick as pea
soup in civilian quarters. Still trying to compensate specifically for Epsilon
radiation, but no promises."
Ghorev says, "Keep working at it, both of you. I doubt we have time for
me to go down there personally with an EVA suit and a tricorder, so you're our
best hope."
<CONTEST> Blair contests his Shipboard Systems (Sensors) skill vs a
difficulty of Moderate and Fails!
From Dakin's combadge, a muffled voice reports, "Ensign Davis here, sir.
We're suited up and ready to enter the room. Shall we proceed?"
<CONTEST> Tahlandi contests her Shipboard Systems (Sensors) skill vs a
difficulty of Moderate and Fails!
<CONTEST> Idrani contests her Shipboard Systems (Sensors) skill vs a
difficulty of Moderate and Succeeds!
Dakin says into his combadge. "Seal off that part of the level, Mr.
Davis, to prevent any accidental contamination. Other than that, you're good to
go."
Blair lightly slaps his console. "Nothing on my end, sir, but I've got
the sensors attuned as well as they're going to get in these conditions.
Idrani tries to assist in attempting to scan into the room in question. She
reports from her station, "Sir, the radiation levels in the room are
dropping rapidly and it appears to be concentrated in the center of the
room."
Over Dakin's combadge, Davis' voice echos, "Yes sir. Sealing off the
corridor. We'll report as soon as we're inside."
Dakin nods. "Acknowledged. Keeping an open channel."
Ghorev says, "Is the radiation being generated from an outside source,
or is it entirely contained in that room?"
Idrani says, "It appears to be contained in the room, sir."
Over Dakin's combadge, the sounds of doors being opened can be heard, with
muffled voices. A moment later, Davis reports quietly, "Lt Dakin..we have
two bodies in here. Ferengi and..Mr Noonan, Sir."
Ghorev asks Dakin, with a motion towards the combadge, "Vital
signs?"
Dakin nods to Ghorev and inquires to Davis, "Check their vitals, Mr.
Davis."
Over Dakin's combadge, Davis' voice reports, "Aye sir." Another
pause, and more muffled sounds. "No life signs on either of them, Sir.
They're both dead."
Dakin's combadge pipes up again, with Davis adding, "I recognize the
Ferengi Sir. Its the Mall gardener..think his name was Brect?"
Idrani asks quietly, "Is there any indication where the radiation came
from?"
Blair raises an eyebrow. "If it was apparently from the center of the
room, it sounds artificial...unless ther's some sort of leak, but would that be
so well-contained?" he murmurs.
Dakin mutters a Bajoran prayer under his breath then says in normal tones,
"Acknowledged, Mr. Davis. Do a sweep of the room, try to nail down what
happened. And notify Medical of the two deceased. Dakin out." He sighs,
then says to Ghorev. "Why would Noonan and the Mall's groundskeeper be
shooting at each other? Or at something else perhaps..."
Ghorev makes that trilling sigh. "Send them the exact coordinates for
the point at which the radiation burst begins, Mister Idrani. Mister Blair, put
a damage control team together for the decontamination."
Idrani comments, still quietly, "Could be an assassination." She
transmits the exact co-ordinates of the radiation convergence to the security
team.
Blair nods, turning to his console. "Aye, sir, I'm on it." That
said, he quickly begins sending transmissions to a quickly selected damage
control team, adding in a suggestion to get EVA suits loaded up.
Dakin's combadge chirups. "Ensign Davis to Lt Dakin..we found the source
of the radiation, sir."
Dakin perks up slightly. "I'm listening, Mr. Davis."
From Dakin's combadge, Davis' voice continues. "We traced it to an
object that was under the sofa, Sir. It appears to have emitted the radiation.
There's only a slight trace from it now."
Ghorev frowns at this bid of news. "Mister Blair, have the damage
control team take a containment box with them, just in case."
Idrani glances up from her console when Ensign Davis announces that the
source has been found, then nods to herself, hearing the information.
"Recommend that forensics take a look, sir."
Blair taps at his console. "Aye, sir, order passed along." He leans
over his console for a moment, speaking quietly with whichever engineer is on
the other end.
Dakin says to his officer, "Damage control's enroute with a container
for the device. Get some prelim forensics done on the device before they get
there. They're bringing a container, once it's safe to handle, get it vouchered
as evidence. Any signs of the weapons being fired? Burn marks on the bulkheads
or the deceased?"
Idrani begins tapping at her console again, trying to pull up records of
every access to the quarters in question, in the last forty-eight hours.
From Dakin's combadge, Davis reports, "Aye Sir. As for the weapons
fire..it appears both victims were shot point blank, one with a phaser, the
other with a disruptor. Looks like they shot each other, Sir." A pause, as
Davis confers with another member of the team. "There's nothing on the
object sir. No DNA traces, nothing. Its like it's been wiped of anything but the
radiation."
Ghorev stands silently for a few more heartbeats, listening to the rapid
exchange of information and ideas. For now, tho, the cleanup seems to be flowing
smoothly so he holds back on throwing further orders into the mix.
Blair frowns slightly, responding to the combadge from his distance.
"That'd figure. That high an amount of radiation, we wouldn't recognize
much of the DNA on that thing if there was any in the first place."
Dakin sighs. "All right, keep sweeping the room in case this is only
supposed to 'look' open-and-shut. Let me know the millisecond anything unusual
gets noticed. Dakin out."
Idrani arches a brow at the news. "How did Noonan get access to a phaser
high enough for a kill setting?" She keeps tapping at the console.
Dakin shakes his head. "Friends in low places, I'd imagine, Ensign. He's
been on the Orion Syndicate's hate-parade for a while now." He runs a hand
through his black spiked hair. "Someone needs to tell Gellan..."
Idrani hmms softly to herself and keeps working at her console.
Ghorev considers. "Unless you're volunteering for that, Rann ...."
Dakin nods. "Come to think of it, it'd probably be easier coming from
me..."
Blair turns, sitting up from his hushed conversation. "Whatever it was,
sir, it's in a containment box, and they're starting to clean up." He
glances back at the console for a moment. "...Radiation levels already
falling -- it's slacking off considerably, sir."
Ghorev says, "Then go," to Dakin. And then turns his attention to
Blair. "Excellent. Notify me if things get worse ... otherwise I'll assume
the clean-up's in good hands."
Blair nods, one hand reaching for the control panel. "Keeping tabs on
it, sir."
Idrani hits a few more buttons on her console, then straightens with a little
sigh.
Dakin nods and secures his station before heading out of the facility,
steeling himself for the upcoming task.
Dakin heads out of Operations and into the main corridor.
Dakin has left.
Idrani says quietly, "Sir, I have done a few prelimiary information
checks which have pretty much turned out to be blank. I sent what I had looked
for to forensics, so they do not waste time in going over the same ground
again."
Tahlandi hrms. "Medical reports they've received the bodies in a secure
containment field, sir."
Ghorev says, "Excellent," as he settles back into the command
chair. "Thank you, all, for a rousing display of coordinated effort."
Blair glances at Ghorev for a second, then looks back at his console, shaking
his head and bringing up readings with a sober expression.
Ghorev rubs at his face. "Someone find out if Brect had any next-of-kin,
please."
Idrani says, "Aye, sir."
Blair turns from the console again, piping up. "On a better note, damage
control reports radiation levels are back at zero, sir."
Ghorev nods. "Thank you, Ensign."
Tahlandi sighs softly. "Nothing on file for Brect, sir."
Ghorev says, "Damn." A shake of the head. "Mister Idrani,
after Medical section has done the autopsy, provide formal notification to
Ambassador Lux."
Ghorev stands and leaves Commander's.
Ghorev says, "Mister Tahlandi, you're in command for now. I'm going to
start writing the report on this one."
Idrani nods. "Aye sir, I will give him a preliminary notification now,
if you wish, sir."
Ghorev says, "Your discretion," as he walks towards the door.
"I'll be back in a little while."
Idrani nods. "Aye sir."
Ghorev heads out of Operations and into the main corridor.
