Meeting of Minds

Anomaly TrekMUX Episode (#01-0003) 4/15/00
Poole comes into the ward room, the doors sliding shut behind her with a hiss.
Poole has arrived.

Nevok comes into the ward room, the doors sliding shut behind him with a hiss.
Nevok has arrived.

Surat stands up from his seat at the far end of the conference table.

As the doors slide open, Poole walks through, hands clasped behind her back. She walks to her designated seat.

Surat bows slightly as Poole enters.

Poole says "Commander."

Surat motions to the empty chairs, "Hello... please, be seated while we wait for the others."

Nevok stands to attention upon entering, lookign to Surat, "Lieutenant Nevok reporting as ordered, sir."

Surat nods, "At ease Chief.." again he motions to the chairs, ".. please."

Nevok nods as he makes his way over to the nearest unoccupied chair, settling into it.

He returns to his seat and picks his PADD up, busily entering commands and examining it's output closely.

Poole nods and sits near the end of the table that Surat is sitting at. She smiles as she sits, and adjusts her sleeve slightly.

Caparelli comes into the ward room, the doors sliding shut behind him with a hiss.
Caparelli has arrived.

Surat looks up over his PADD, "Ah, Doctor.. please have a seat.. we will begin in a few minutes."

Caparelli brushes quickly past the doors and comes to a stop at the seat, nodding to Surat as he sits.

Nevok is seated at the table, though his chair is pushed slightly back from it, frowning slightly as he arranges the contents of a grey slimline case on his lap. After snapping a device into place, he pulls his chair up closer to the table and sets the toolkit at his feet.

Poole shifts slightly in her chair, a whisp of blonde hair breaking free from it's binding drifts down over her face. With a casual move of her hand she loops it back over her right ear.

Accolon comes into the ward room, the doors sliding shut behind him with a hiss.
Accolon has arrived.

Surat sets his PADD down and stands, ".. Lieutenant.."

Surat says ".. please have a seat."

Caparelli is sat in a chair, straight, he's almost sitting at attention in fact. He turns his head as Accolon comes in, and gives the man a nod.

Accolon nods to Surat and smiles toward the table as he moves into a chair near the others. He remains quiet as he adjusts his seat in.

Surat straightens his tunic and pauses a moment to allow the new arrival to get comfortable, "Greetings.. I hope that I did not draw any of you away from anything that required your immediate attention..." he steps around the end of the table and begins to slowly walk it's perimeter as he speaks.

Surat looks at each of you in turn as he slowly rounds the conference tables corners, "I regret that I have not been able to meet with any of you before now, to properly introduce myself...."

Poole smiles as she listens to Surat, being as friendly as possible. She sits with her hands on the armrests of the chair.

Surat says ".. my name is Surat, and I am the Upsilon's newly assigned XO.. so assigned due to the regretable result of the recent Dominon attack on the station...""

Accolon smiles and says, "Well, I'm Jinn Accolon, Leiutenant Junior Grade, Lieutenant Commander."

Surat stops and turns to Accolon, "... yes ..you are .."

Accolon smiles around the table toward other faces he recognizes, then asks, "What is this meeting all about, if I may ask, Lieutenant Commander?"

Surat nods and walks directly back to his chair where he sits, drawing himself up to the table.

Nevok looks to Surat attentively, folding his hands loosely in his lap. Glancing briefly to the others present, he nods in recognition, then turns back to the Commander.

Surat says "I wanted to meet you all .. first.. and then for you to give me a brief status report on your individual departments.. your needs, your current concerns..."

Surat picks his PADD up and makes some rapid entries.

Surat says ".. so, please, a brief introduction.. and report.. let us begin with our Chief of Operations.."

Surat he refers to his PADD, ".. Nevok.."

Nevok nods to Surat, then turns to address the rest, speaking with low, even tones, "At present the station is at eighty percent of operational capacity. All primary systems are currently at full operational status.

Secondary systems are slowly being brought up to this status. Construction and repairs are under completion as well. It should be approximately one week's time before the station is operating at full capacity." Pausing a moment, he glances to the Commander, then turns back to the others, "As
with all departments, Opwerations is still woefully understaffed. All personnel are presently serving double shifts. My current concerns for Operations and the station's crew as a whole centers primarily on fatigue and burnout from overextending themselves. In addition, we may require another supply ship to replinish some of the material, particularly major stuctural framework, that we cannot fabricate on site."

Surat listens closely to the Chief's words, "Yes.. staffing is a problem for all departments at the moment .. of course, given the need to complete original construction schedules, and now with the additional repairs, your department has priority. Feel free to pull what staff you need from other departments as needed to obtain current goals." he pauses, thinking a moment, "Perhaps Commander Balin can successfully request our current resupply schedule be altered to better meet your needs."

Accolon raises his hand casually and says, "I'd be happy to lend my assistance, Lieutenant Nevok."

Nevok nods with a smile to Surat, "Thank you, sir. It will certainly help, though I would prefer not to tamper with the scheduling and duties of other departments. I will most certainly speck with Commander Balin regarding our resupply needs. This is primarily required for the Aegis and any other ships in its same situation that may require assistance here." Turning to Accolon, he nods, "Thank you, Lieutenant. Shall we meet after this conference?"

Accolon nods in reply to Nevok with a smile on his face.

Surat says "One thing to note Chief, a new arrival.. one Ensign Nevaren, will be joining your department. He has some transporter expertise .. you were off duty at the time, so I instead of wasting the available manpower, I tasked him with an investigation of the errors that turned up on the last cargo transporter diagnostic. .. again, feel free to pull him off of that if you find it necessary. I felt it needed additional attention as any malfunction that prevents us from moving cargo, would be a unacceptable
disruption to current schedules."

Surat turns and nods to Poole, "... Lieutenant Poole, 419's tactical officer ... what is our current weapons and defensive systems status?"

Nevok nods as he looks back to Surat, "Yes sir, I had the opportunity to meet with Ensign Nevaren and discuss the matter with him just prior to the end of his shift. I must admit to having been on duty at the time, however, though I was several meters up a jeffries tube. I must have just missed your departure from Engineering."

"Phasers, torpedo launchers, and shields were operational during the attack by the Jem'Hadar, and they suffered only minor damage during the fighting. As such, they are fully operational, and our supply of quantum torpedoes was resupplied by the last supply convoy." Gwen speaks just loud enough to
be heard by everyone in the room, she smiles as she finishes and says, "We're more than ready to counter any further raids by the Jem'Hadar... or anyone else for that matter."

Surat sits back in his chair, much more relaxed than he was a moment ago, "Excellent .. I was concerned about just that. Thank you."

Surat turns back to Nevok, "My mistake Chief, I would have contacted you if I thought you were on duty.. but as you said, you and many of your staff have been working well beyond your regular shifts."

Nevok shakes his head, "Not at all sir. More than likely I was occupied with repairs."

Accolon's mouth drops as Poole relays the report. He says, "They were undamaged?" and then chuckles, "I thought we were one shot from being....blown out of space."

Poole stares at Accolon, "The systems went down during the anomaly's birth.... They came back up afterwards with a little bit of effort."

Accolon smiles, "Well, at least a part of this station had some luck." nodding to Poole.

Surat motions towards Poole, "ah, yes.. the anomaly.. this is the next item I wanted to table... Lieutenant Accolon .. anything to report from Sciences on this phenomena?"

Gwen smiles back at Accolon, then looks to Surat.

Nevok gives Accolon a sidelong glance, then looks back to Surat, "All systems were down as a result of the battle and the anomaly's birth. Damage control teams did bring weapons, sensors, and shields back up soon after, though at dramatically reduced levels. Nearly all shield system components required complete replacement, as did weapons and most other pimary systems."

Surat says "I see.. so a proper investigation has yet to be done?"

Surat says ".. into the origin and composition of the anomaly, that is.."

Surat looks back to Accolon.

Accolon leans back in his chair, gesturing with his hand, "We've been running tests using various vibrations and radiations. Like, the rest of the station, we're short on personel too. I've run the supplies we'll need through logistics. A few more quadrorelays for the rado-harmonic synthesizers." He waves his hand through the air again, "As you may know we have one of the leading experts in the feild, on hand to assist. Ensign Tyler. She's young and this is her first time... off Earth." He glances toward everyone, "I recommend we treat her delicatly until she can acclimate better into being in Starfleet." He clears his throat, "The theory we're currently working with is the idea the anomalous crystal object may be some sort of engine. When vibrated at .5 dichromes, it releases chronoton particles at an alarming rate."

Nevok frowns slightly as he listens attentively to Accolon's report, as if considering the facts presented.

Surat nods, "Point taken.. I had a chance to review Ensign Tyler's record.. allow her as much room as she needs to perform her duties to peak efficiency. .. I guess I do not have to ask you to focus the department's resources on the anomaly."

Surat refers to his PADD once more, ".. which brings me to .. Acting CMO Caparelli. How are things in sickbay, doctor?"

Accolon shakes his head, chuckling. "No. It is the department, at large, currently."

Caparelli listens intently through the various reports and whatnots, keeping his eyes on the speakers as they talk, before nodding at Surat.

"Yes sir." Comes his deep voice as he stands and faces everyone at once.

"Not really any problems, so to speak," although his eyes drift to Lieutenant Poole as he says it. "Although I am a little put off by the lack of people showing up for their physical check ups. With the exception of Lieutenant Accolon and Ensign Tyler I have yet to see anyone."

Accolon half-smiles and says, "I assure you, it's painless."

Flushing slightly, Gwen shifts uncomfortably in her chair and looks to the Doc. "I'm sorry about that, I will report to sick bay as soon as possible."

Nevok looks to Caparelli with a slight frown, "My apologies, Doctor. I've had little free time to attend to it. I will endeavour to do so as soon as poosible." Turning to Surat and Poole, his frown deepens slightly, "On the subject of Ensign Tyler, I will forward to you a reply from the Commander in regards to her record. You should have her record in your respective personal accounts, sirs."

Surat nods, "Ah, yes Doctor, you'll have to excuse the protocol breach.. given the current condition of the base. I had just completed a physical exam during my previous assignment .. nevertheless, I should have reported to you as soon as I arrived."

Caparelli winks at Accolon, nods at Poole, and then takes a seat. "Ok, I was beginning to worry that their was an inherent fear of Doctors amongst the Head of Department, I appreciate that you are all busy, but please don't put your health last." He says, before quietening down again.

Surat says "Amongst the personnel that have reported for examinations, have you found anything that could be described as unusual since the 'birth' of the anomaly?"

Caparelli shakes his head at Surat, and then gives Accolon a sideways glance, "Lieutenant Accolon was worried about chronoton radiation poisoning, but I tested him and Ensign Tyler, and they're both fine. Although I've still only seen half the crew, I'll keep my eyes peeled."

Accolon nods, commenting, "The levels of chronoton particles which occured at a point when the containment feild was down around the anomalous crystal object was intensive."

Surat nods and looks to Accolon, ".. about the emissions .. you mentioned some numbers and a theory that something is 'driving' these emissions.. when you have developed a theory, we will meet again to discuss it, I have however taken enough of all your valuable time today." Surat stands and tucks his PADD under his left arm, "Thank you all.. it was good to have an opportunity to meet. Dismissed."

Surat says "Oh, and do not hesitate to inform of your needs and concerns, at any time."

Lt. Poole nods and smiles at Surat as she stands, "I'm pleased to have met you finally, Commander." She moves close enough to extend one hand.

Accolon nods to Surat, "Of course, sir." Then, he smiles, "It's been nice meeting you too. Welcome aboard Leiutenant Commander Surat."

Surat leans forward and clasps Poole's hand firmly, ".. and Lieutenant Poole, of course, as the base's 2nd officer .. you always have my full attention."

Surat nods to Accolon, "Thank you, I appreciate the sentiment."

Surat says "When the base is fully operational perhaps we can all meet in less formal circumstances."

Surat delivers a sharp shallow bow and makes for the exit.

Caparelli nods to Surat as he leaves and then follows after him. "I have work to do, if you'll excuse me." He mutters under his breath.

Poole nods as the commander passes her, then she moves towards the doctor.

Speaking softly she tries to get his attention, "Doctor... "

Surat leaves the Ward Room.
