Love Kills

Anomaly TrekMUX Episode (#01-0002) 4/01/00

The Neutral Zone - Station 419 - [IC]
Walking into the bar brings with it the usual experience of walking on bare deckplates. Each step is marked by a small clink as boot strikes against metal. The walls of the bar, in the tradition of such places from earliest Terran history, are lined with various objects of interest contributed by the crew and visitors. Here is a Cardassian Gul's rank-pin. Over there is the bridge alert indicator from a Jem'hadar battle cruiser. And in the center of the room, clearly in pride of place, is the actual bar itself. Made of gleaming metal, it takes a moment before it is recognizable as a piece of the hull of a Galaxy Class starship. Careful examination would be required to determine its origin, although the bar's frequent patrons might be pleased to share a wild story or two about it. A series of trapezoidal viewports offers a view of surrounding space. Suspended in the black void is something far more enigmatic than all of the odd artifacts in this bar. Looking almost like a miniature star, the is bar. Looking almost like a miniature star, the anomaly quietly flashes alternately blue and white.

Jimmy stops whistling so he can sip his order as it arrives, and then screws his face up slightly. Maybe he doesn't like the taste much, but whatever it is he doesn't look happy. He places it on the bar and spies you, before wandering over without his drink and sitting down. "Hey. Lieutenant Poole, right?" He asks, smiling.

The woman nods, lifting her eyes from the page she was on. "Yes. And you're the man who doesn't like apple juice, right?" She smirks as she says this, tilting her head slightly as she regards Jimmy.

Jimmy bites his tongue. "Yeah, uh, sorry 'bout dat." He says, his nose twitching slightly. "I got a way o' lettin' everyone know all my opinions. Must be a real pain in the ass." He admits, before winking, he doesn't seem to think so. He calls a waitress over and orders a glass of whiskey, before finally relaxing.

"No, actually... I'm impressed when people actually speak there mind, you might even make a good Starfleet officer if you tried." Gwen smiles broadly, then sets her book on the table. "How has your business been going on the station? Is your store open yet?"

Jimmy nods a little, sipping his whiskey immediately as it arrives, and then placing it on the table. "Uh yeah," He says, clearing his throat. "Just got the shop, decorated it an' all that, opened it up yesterday. Not many takers yet, but it should be a good little earner..." He trails off, and needs another drink of whiskey. "As for bein' a starfleet officer..." He shakes his head. "Nah, it ain't my style, sounds cheesey I know, but there it is."

"What exactly are you selling?" she asks softly. Gwen keeps her eyes on the man, one hand on her book and the other at her side. She sits up in her chair, straightbacked.
Jimmy isn't really straight backed, but then, he's just a civilian. In fact, he's slouching. "Uh, souvenirs, station memorabilia, all that kinda stuff. Got some real nice stuff in there, most of it's some o' the older crap I brought from earth wi' me, but it's all real cheap." He says, smiling genuinely.

"Just don't let any ferengi haggle you out of all your merchandise." Gwen shifts, moving a hand to her drink. She raises it to her lips and takes a long sip.

Jimmy cocks his head. "Please, compared to me, ferengi are freakin' morons when it comes to business." Damn, he's way too confident, he's going to get a shock. On the other hand, he did mention that this was his first time away from earth, maybe he just doesn't know much about aliens yet.

"Obviously you haven't read their rules of acquisition," is the young officer's reply. "I meant to ask you if you were injured during the Jem'Hadar attack last week, I had heard something about you floating in zero-g?" She grins evilly, waiting for your reply.

Jimmy smiles and then scratches the back of his neck. "Yeah, uh, that." He says, sipping another intake of malt. "Nah, just shock, I puked my guts up, but hey, I'm a civilian right?" Comes a few sarcastic words, probably a defence mechanism. "Besides, how the hell was I to know I was walkin' into a warzone? Seems ter 'ave died down now though."

"I wouldn't count on that. Being so close to the neutral zone, we should be expecting some more attacks." She doesn't saying anything about the puking, just leaves it as that.

Jimmy shrugs. "Oh well, I expect I'll be ok next time, jus' kinda took me unawares, y'know?" He asks, probably seeking an understanding look, or answer, or something.

Poole smiles kindly, "You'll be fine if it happens again. Next time we won't be losing gravity, they hit us when we were weak." Gwen shakes her head, "Next time, we'll stop them."

Jimmy chuckles. "I gotta admire yer confidence Lieutenant, you'd make a good trader." He winks and then sips at his drink again. "Who hit us, anyway?"

"Two Jem'Hadar ships... Three of them attacked the USS Aegis, partially crippling her though they lost one of their own ships. The other two attacked us head on, we destroyed one.... and the other." Gwen turns her head and looks at the anomaly, "Well... take your guess."

Jimmy tilts his head to look outside and contemplate the anomaly. "Yeah, uh, I meant to ask about that. I was sniffin' round one o' the new science officers sent here to check that out, she seemed to think she were underqualified for the position, but why the hell would she be out here if she was?" He asks, why the hell he's asking questions like this is anybodies guess.

"May I have this officer's name?" Gwen perks an eyebrow, "She won't get in trouble, I just want to speak with her."

Jimmy sucks on his teeth and then brings the glass of whiskey up to lips again, taking a sip. "It'll costya." He says, he seems amused.

Gwen's response is a soft clear laugh, "Maybe you could outdo a Ferengi." She gives Jimmy a wink, setting her drink down again. "How about if I bought something from your store for my quarters.... would you give me the name then?"

Jimmy chuckles softly but then shakes his head. "Hey, I'm jus' screwin' around. I can't remember her name, uh, blonde hair, blue eyes. Young, y'know?" He sips the drink again and then finally sets it back down. "Cute too, I thought all starfleet ladies were a bitch lot, boy was I wrong." Well, at least -he- seems to think it's funny.

Gwen raises her eyebrows at this, "Present company excepted, right?" A smirk dance on her lips, "I'll try and find her later. Most information about the anomaly, even the most simple facts, aren't supposed to be told to anyone outside of Starfleet."

Jimmy nods and cocks his head. "Yeah, she wouldn't tell me nuttin', but hey, I knew not to ask." He says, looking you over. "Besides, you ain't that bad, jus' a bit rough 'round the edges." He grins.

"I'm glad I've passed your test." Her tone exhibits a bit of sarcasm, "And you, I think, have passed mine.. You clean up well after a long journey." Gwen gives Jimmy another wink, then takes a sip of her drink.

Williams arrives from the mall, the entrance's double doors sliding silently closed behind him.
Williams has arrived.

Williams pauses by the door and glances around, before walking towards the bar.

Lt. Poole and Jimmy are seated at a table near a viewport with a good view of the anomaly, talking at normal levels.

Williams speaks quietly with the bartender a moment, then accepts a glass of clear liquid.

Jimmy bahs under his breath and finishes off his whiskey. "Yeah, I guess I was a little cranky, long flight an' all that. If there's one thing I 'ate it's long space flights." Maybe he's just trying to wind Pool up, afterall he overheard her discussing starships not too long ago. His eyes sweep to the door, security, uh oh. Alarm bells are probably ringing in this guys head considering the last words that William's and Jimmy had, but he doesn't say anything, he just nods to Lieutenant Poole. "Shower did the trick though."

Williams sits down at long metal bar.

Minos arrives from the mall, the entrance's double doors sliding silently closed behind it.
Minos has arrived.

Williams sips his drink as he watches people come and go through the door.

Minos steps through the entrance to the bar, escorted by an enormous Klingon in a black jumpsuit. By his other side is a small but /gorgeous/ Orion girl wearing.. hardly anything. She has a silver collar around her neck - an Orion slave collar. He looks around carefully.

Jimmy can't help but notice Minos out of the corner of his eye, or maybe it's the slave girl. No wait, scratch all that, it's that giant Klingon. He doesn't look their way, no chance of that, instead concentrating on calling a waitress over for another batch of good ol' fashioned whiskey.

"Depends on the starship. The Aegis is a sturdy ship, but not much to my liking. I'd like to get a posting on one of the new ship classes in development. My mother has told me little tidbits, mostly names of the new starships at Utopia Planetia." Gwen grins, then says matter-of-factly, "My mother still takes care of me." Her attention is drawn by the entrance of Minos as well, her nose wrinkling a little at the slave girl on the man's arm.

Jimmy makes nervous conversation now, and sips at his drink once it arrives. "Yeah well, I wouldn't know 'bout much o' dat." He says, probably meaning the ship mumbo jumbo, and not the mother part... though it's possible, he doesn't say. "I bet bein' on a station ain't much fun then huh?"

"Actually, it's turning out much more interesting than I thought." This is Lt. Poole's short reply, she is still regarding Minos.. and takes an instant disliking to the man, with his bouncer and slave girl. She looks towards the bar and gives Williams a look.

Williams stares at the new arrival, then taps his badge and whispers into it.

Minos strides across the metal deck plates, boots echoing throughout with each step. He strides toward the table with Jimmy and Poole.

Williams watches the three pass and sips his drink.

Jimmy raises an eyebrow, before clearing his throat and throwing Poole an apologetic glance and looking up to smile at Minos.

The Klingon stays near the door, watching Minos walk toward the merchant and the Starfleet officer. The slave girl demurely steps to the other side of the door and looks to the floor.

Poole stares at Minos intensely, a slight frown on her face. She waits for him to say something first, straightening even more than she is in her chair.. becoming rigid.

Williams eyes the Klingon thoughtfully, then stands and leans over the bar to whisper to the bartender.

Williams takes a datapad from his belt and taps it, looking with interest at the screen.

Minos looks to Poole first and admires her. Really admires her. He undresses her with his eyes from head to toe. Then smiles charmingly at her. "Hello," he says.

"Hullo." Gwen is very unenthusiastic, for her at any rate... she's usually more friendly. "Is there something I could help you with, perhaps to speed your way off the station?" Her frown disappears and is replaced with a smile, genuine, though forced.

Jimmy watches Poole's response with no smal amount of curiosity, but keeps his mouth shut.

Minos chuckles a bit to himself at that. "Starfleet is certainly turning out beautiful officers these days," he says to her. "You would make a fine addition to my harem."

Gwen stands up from her seat slowly, her gaze turning angry. She suppresses this rage, then says in a calm voice, "Thank you for saying so, but I think I'll stay with Starfleet... Is there anything else I can help you with?"

Jimmy rumbles a low chuckle, though it's barely audible. He doesn't say anything, still, although he definately wants to say something. He seems amused, believe it or not, but only for an instant. It's barely noticable.

Williams stands and leaves long metal bar.

Minos nods a bit at that, looking pleasantly into her eyes. "I'm sure there is." He looks her up and down again. "But I'm afraid you're a little too clothed to do much about it right now. Perhaps later." He gives her a smile again, then looks to Jimmy. "I have business with you."

Poole bites her tongue, obviously having some sharp retort, and takes her seat again. She grinds her teeth and looks out the viewport.

Jimmy nods to Minos and stands up. "Here or somewhere quieter?" He asks, looking past Minos to the Klingon. He leans back to the table only to retrieve his glass of whiskey, and he downs the rest in one go.

Williams returns the datapad to his belt, then rests his hand on his phaser and sips his drink.

The orion girl shuffles her feet a bit.

Minos says "I prefer to see the trinkets in your shop. I wish to buy a souvenier."

Williams glances at the girl with a slight frown, then goes back to watching Minos.

Jimmy narrows his eyes slightly and again looks at the Klingon. "Sure, I'm more than happy to sell you some trinkets." He says, although he does seem a little put off by having to go off with the huge Klingon.

Gwen stands from her seat again, grabbing both her book and her drink. She gives Minos a sour look, then bends down and says something softly into Jimmy's ear.

You whisper "Don't hesitate to call for me, or for security, if you have any 'problems.'" to Jimmy.

The Klingon glances toward Williams, then looks back towards his boss.

Jimmy nods to Gwen and throws in a wink for good measure. "You bet." he says, before turning back to Minos with a grin ready.

Poole looks at Minos again and gives him a nod, then she retreats to the bar. She just so happens to take the seat next to Williams, offering him a smile as she sits.

Minos:
His jet black hair is greased back, leading to a ponytail at the base of his neck. A pencil-thin black mustache frames his regal looking features - all of which are a bright shade of green. His eyes are black, but have a piercing intelligence to them.
He is wearing a purple silk shirt tucked into tight black pants, draped over which is a green sash. His high black leather boots are polished to almost blinding specs.
Minos is accompanied by a seven foot tall Klingon wearing a black jumpsuit. He looks none too friendly.

Williams places the glass on the bar and smiles to Poole while keeping his eyes on the retreating group.

Poole(#382PXnce)
Gwen's most outstanding feature, in her opinion, is her golden blonde hair which is cut to just above her shoulder blades. It is almost always braided or bound, as per Starfleet Dress Code. Her facial features are pretty, some may say they are a bit angular. She has a small nose with a scattering of freckles. Emotions are hard for her to hide, as she smiles and her dimples appear.
Most people would say that her best features are her eyes, a rich, dark brown color. They are intense sometimes, though often they are soft and kind. Through them one can see her mood rather clearly, as they are expressive and easy to read.
She is wearing a tailored, durable black jumpsuit over a red turtleneck undershirt. Along the collar are two circular gold pips. The shoulders of the jumpsuit are padded with a medium grey ribbed material and a single red stripe encircles each cuff. A stylized silver chevron on a matte gold rectangle is attached to the upper left side of the jumpsuit, just below the shoulderpadding. The legs of the jumpsuit are fitted snugly over a pair polished black halfboots via stirrups.
Poole is carrying the following:
Comm Pin, Type I Phaser, Tricorder.

Minos gestures for the door, and smiles to Jimmy. "After you."

Kyla, the slave girl, just looks at the floor.

Jimmy nods once and heads towards the door, his eyes going over the klingon more than once as he approaches.

Jimmy heads out and into the Mall.
Jimmy has left.

Williams taps his badge and speaks quietly into it.

Minos heads out and into the Mall.
Minos has left.

Williams slowly returns to his seat, while watching out the door.

Poole looks over at Williams and gives him a look as the 'space pimp' leaves. "I almost hit him."

The Klingon follows the two out, but the slave girl stays put.

Williams looks at Poole with a frown, then gazes at Kyla sadly.

At your table, Williams says "It might not be wise to do that Lt."

Kyla sighs a bit to herself. She looks to the two Starfleet officers and gives them a half-smile.

"Chr... Ensign Williams, isn't there something we can do to... help her?" Gwen's eyes rove from the Security ensign to the slave girl. She notices the half-smile and smiles back, waving her over.

Kyla looks about, as if to make sure nobody is watching her. Only every male eye in the place. But the important ones walked out of the room a few moments ago. She slinks across the room and stands before the two. "I serve," is all she states.

At your table, Williams says "That man is a suspected criminal with a large amount of wealth and resources. The Federation has tried to convict him of crimes several times and has failed."

Williams smiles and gestures to a seat at the bar.

At your table, Poole says "Why has the Federation failed? Can we arrest him now? Or at least free his slave....?"

Poole says something in a really low whisper to Williams, then smiles again at the slave girl. "Please sit.... Is there something we can get you to drink?"

At your table, Williams says "The slave is part of his culture, we cannot legally free her without first convicting her master of a crime."

Kyla looks about again. "I'm not supposed to sit," she says demurely. "I must stand and wait for my master. If he catches me speaking to you.." She lets the words hang, but one hand can't help but dart up to the cold metal of the collar.

Poole bites her lower lip, "Can we at least get you something to drink? Some water perhaps, something to eat?" She stands from her seat. If the girl cannot sit, neither will she.

Williams says "Would you like to request assylum Miss?"

Kyla looks at Williams curiously. "What are you talking about?" she asks him.

Williams says "If you want to become a member of the Federation, you could request asylum."

Williams stares at Kyla intently. "Slavery is not legal in the Federation."

Poole looks at Williams with a bit of wonder, a smile on her lips. She remains silent, though she nods as the ensign speaks.

Kyla blinks at him a bit. She looks to Poole. "Water, please."

The Lt. turns and looks at the bartender, "A water, and please hurry with it." She accepts the water glass a moment later, and offers it to the girl.

Kyla takes it and sips it. She sets it down on the counter and looks at the beads of droplets forming on the sides of the glass. She looks back toward Williams. "I don't understand. I've always been a slave," she says to him.

Williams speaks quietly into his badge briefly while smiling at the girl, then takes his datapad from his belt.

Williams says "Perhaps it is time you tried being something different."

Williams glances at the door, then looks at the girl with a smile. "The Federation allows people to be what they want to be."

Kyla's eyes look wishful at the prospect. She then looks back down to the counter again. "I can't leave my Master," she says. "That would be wrong."

Williams taps his datapad and glances back and forth from it to Kyla. "What is your name miss?"

Poole notices the glance towards the door, "I'll watch for your... for that man you came in with." She moves to the entrance.

Kyla says softly, "Kyla."

Williams nods and smiles, "Nice to meet you Kyla, I am Chris."

Williams returns to his seat.

Kyla looks back to the door, then sits down hesitantly beside him. She looks to him with a smile.

Williams places the datapad on the bar and finishes his drink with a nod to the bartender. "If you wish to request admittance to the Federation, I can help you do that, but you must ask me."

Williams glances at the datapad on the bar and taps it as he talks.

Poole takes a long look outside, not seeing Minos or Jimmy and wanders back over to the bar. "What he speaks is the truth, if you ask us, we can protect you from that man."

Williams looks at the collar on Kyla intently.

Williams smiles up at Poole and gestures to the seat on the other side of Kyla.

Kyla shakes her head. "I can't leave my master, though. You don't understand."

Poole takes the seat on the other side of Kyla, "Why can't you leave him, what are we misunderstanding?"

At your table, Williams says "You are right, I don't understand. I cannot force you to leave him, but I can force him to leave you if you ask me to."

Kyla reaches out and touches Chris' cheek. She smiles to him. "You're very sweet for offering. But I cannot."

Williams smiles and winks at Poole, "I have Tom at the door to keep an eye on the mall while we get to know our new friend." He then turns his smile to Kyla.

At your table, Poole says "If, she'll stay with us. Kyla, you can be safe here, away from that man. He's horrible.... I nearly struck him when he spoke to me."

At your table, Kyla isn't much interested in what Poole is saying. She's busy gazing into Williams' eyes, smiling to him.

Williams gazes at Kyla with a slight smile.

At your table, Poole rolls her eyes, glancing away. She mutters, "Maybe I will strike him next time I see him."

At your table, Kyla looks back to Poole and shakes her head. "He will kill you."

Williams gazes at Kyla with a slight smile.

At your table, Williams says "He would have to kill me and my team first."

At your table, Kyla giggles a bit to Williams. "You're so brave."

Williams blushes and looks quickly at his datapad, "I just do my job."

Williams returns his gaze to Kyla.

At your table, Williams says "Please ask me to grant you asylum."

At your table, Kyla just doesn't get it. "But why? I am happy."

At your table, Williams says "Are you? You didn't appear happy when you first came in here. Couldn't you be happy here with us?"

At your table, Kyla says "Would you then be my master?"

Williams starts and looks at Kyla witha frown.

BOOM! The entire station shakes as a bomb is unleashed somewhere in the Mall section.

Williams jumps up with a grim frown and heads for the door, speaking into his badge, "Stay here Kyla!"

Kyla looks about, confused. She frowns as she watches Williams dart up.

Williams stands and leaves long metal bar.

Williams runs for the door.

Williams heads out and into the Mall.
Williams has left.

Poole stands up quickly, following after Williams. She reiterates what he said, "Stay here.... "

Poole heads out and into the Mall.
Poole has left.

Kyla smiles to herself.

[ Poole and Williams have run toward an explosion near Jimmy's shop. ]

A small piece of wall is damaged and blackened. Minos lies on the floor near it, bloodied, drifting in and out of consciousness. The Klingon, very close to Minos during the blast, seems stunned and has lost his hearing. A Starfleet Security officer, Ensign Ota, a Bolian, lies dead nearby, a piece of shrapnel buried in his skull.

Williams pulls his datapad from his belt, types up the question, "What happened?" on the screen, then hands it to the Klingon.

Poole runs onto the scene, her phaser in her hands. She stops and takes a look around.

Williams directs the Security personel to various positions, then turns his full attention to the Klingon, whispering to the medics to inform him if Minos's condition changes.

The Klingon picks it up and reads it. "It's not the first assassination attempt."

Poole frowns, walking over to Williams. "Ensign, what the heck is going on?" She eyes the blast sight, also noticing the medical teams near Minos.

Williams takes the datapad from the Klingon and types in, "Please accompany the medical team to the Infirmary, and do not leave the station as I will need to speak with you more."

The medics strap Minos onto a gurney and start him toward the Infirmary. The Klingon follows.

Williams glances at Poole grimly, "Apparently there was an attempt on Minos' life by presently unknown perpetrators sir."

Williams gestures to Minos.

Minos groans as he is wheeled toward the Infirmary.

Williams says "There were a few other injuries and one of my Security team was killed."

Williams stands at semi-attention as he reports, all the while watching the area and the Klingon closely.

Groaning inwardly, Lt. Poole winces. "Have you located Mr. Rogers yet? He was taking that man to his shop."

Williams says "Not yet sir."

Poole taps her com badge, "Computer, locate Jimmy Rogers."

The remains of the bomb lay on the floor.

Williams walks over to the remains of the bomb and gestures to a medic.

Buzz-buzz. "There is no crew member on board by that name." Damn! Can only locate those with compins.

Poole frowns even deeper, "Damn."

Williams says "Perhaps if you ask the computer to scan the station for his life signs sir...his medical data should be in the dtatbase."

Williams carefully pokes through the bomb remains with the stylus he got from the medic.

Poole nods, blinking once or twice. "Computer, scan the station for Jimmy Rogers, what is his location?"

Williams gestures to one of the Security team, "Collect these remains and take them to the science lab for analysis, do not leave them un-attended, they are evidence."

Williams straightens up and moves back over to stand at parade-rest next to Lt. Poole.

A few whirs and clicks. The security team nods to Williams and starts to gather up the evidence. "Unable to locate individual based on life signs. Please restate request." (The computer can differentiate between race, but not between individuals).

Williams sighs, "Sorry sir, that was my best idea, I'll get on locating him right away.

Gwen looks over to the ensign, then says, "I'm going to check on the science labs, if someone could get onto the station and do this, they could also be trying the sample that we retrieved from the anomaly."

Williams nods.

Poole nods to the ensign and says, "Locate him, and let me know when you've found him. I'd like to ask him a few questions." She starts to walk off towards the turbolifts.

[ Lt. Poole starts to head toward Science Deck, Deck 3, but finds the turbolift doors at Deck Three inoperative. ]

[Starfleet] Poole says, "Poole to Ensign Williams, Turbolift doors to deck 3 are inoperative."

[Starfleet] Williams says, "Williams to Poole, my Security team reports that the door to the science lab is inoperative...we are moving in via Jefries tubes."

[Starfleet] Poole says, "Acknowledged. I'm heading to ops, keep me informed."

[Starfleet] Williams says, "Williams to Poole, I believe we have a situation here Lt. I reccomend we shut down access to the station and go to red alert."

[Starfleet] Poole says, "Acknowledged ensign, we're going to red alert."

The Red Alert klaxon starts to fill the air.

Meanwhile, in Science Lab 2..
Science Lab Two - Station 419 - [IC]
This lab is slightly smaller than Science Lab One, but is definitely more interesting. In the center of the room is a large square slab, measuring about four by four meeters, and about a half-meter tall. Suspended above it via forcefields (and a backup tether securely fastened around it) is a large stump-shaped object, appearing to be made of a cluster of opaque ice-blue crystals. The 'roots' of the stump branch out into continuously thinning crystals into a delicate-looking structure beneath. It is sheared off flat at the top. The whole thing is about one meter tall, and three meters in diameter at its widest point. A glowing gold ring around the base of the slab indicates a containment field is up around it. Scattered around the stump is a variety of portable scanner consoles, on which is plugged a portable computer. A shelf is recessed into the gunmetal grey wall, a variety of scanning and diagnostic tools scattered on its surface. One wall is nothing but compull is nothing but computer displays. It seems this room was hastily converted from the astrometrics lab into a lab devoted to the study of this.. thing.

Jimmy stands near the artifact, its crystalline structure gleaming behind the forcefields keeping it in containment in Science Lab II. Staring at it for a moment, dumbfounded, he mumbles, "What the hell?" He starts to lift the holoimager to his eye, when suddenly Ensign Tyler comes around from the other side of the artifact. She almost runs into him, and they both yelp in alarm.

Tyler's padd tumbles to the ground. "You scuh-scared m-me!" she stammers.

"You scared me too," replies Jimmy.

Tyler asks, "Wuh-what are you doing in here?"

Jimmy decides quickly what course he should take - the naive young Ensign is an easy mark. "The explosion! I got caught on this deck! You're the one in Starfleet, I'm just a civilian. You need to take charge out there and fix the turbolift! I don't want to be stuck on this deck forever!"

Tyler, barraged by Jimmy's fast talking, nods, wide eyed, and is ushered out the door by Jimmy.

Jimmy locks the door behind her, then moves to the artifact with his holoimager. He smiles to himself as he starts to snap the images. Minos is going to love this.

Meanwhile..

[Starfleet] Poole says, 'This is Lieutenant Poole in Ops to the Science labs, is anyone there?'.

[Starfleet] "Ensign Tyler, suh-sir. Guh-g-go ahead."

[Starfleet] Poole speaks quickly, "Ensign, what is going on in your area?"

[Starfleet] Tyler says, "I huh-heard an explosion, suh-sir. And a Suh-security guy just about knocked me over."

[Starfleet] Poole says, "Is there any other trouble in the labs? Is the... sample safe?"

[Starfleet] Tyler says, "I duh-don't know. I'm nuh-not there, I'm in the hall. I luh-left Jimmy Ruh-rogers in there."

[Starfleet] Poole says, "You what? Damn.... Detain Mr. Rogers, I'm heading down there as we speak. Security teams will be there soon. Poole out."

[Starfleet] Williams says, "Williams to Ops, I'm entering science lab 2 now."

[Starfleet] Poole says, "Poole to Ensign Williams, "Steady, don't fire unless you have to....""

[Starfleet] Poole says, "Poole to Williams, the turbolifts are still not fully functional."

[Starfleet] Poole says, "What's your team's status?"

[Starfleet] Williams says, "Williams to Ops, Tyler's got the doors unjammed on the turbolift. I'm heading into the science lab with her."

Jimmy, knowing his time is quite short, turns toward a Jeffries Tube panel. He snaps it off, climbs in, and pulls it closed behind him.

Williams and Tyler enter the science lab shortly after Jimmy makes his escape.

Poole makes her way down from Ops to the Science Labs.

[Starfleet] Williams says, "Security has the lab secured sir."

Tyler frowns a bit, looking down. She tries to make herself small and heads to a nearby wall, hoping to blend in.

Poole strides in as she recieves the com message. "Okay, give me the details...." She looks a little flustered, must have been those damned turbolifts... still not working right after the attack.

Williams raises the phaser rifle to point towards the ceiling and looks at Poole.

Williams says "I have seen nothing out of the ordinary here in the lab sir, but I found this in Mr. Roger's shop."

Williams hands a small glossy black case to Poole.

The place is, indeed, secure. There is no sign of an intruder, no sign of anything missing.

Poole takes the case, then goes to open it... very gingerly.

The black case is 4x4x2 inches. Inside it is grey foam padding, for protecting whatever was inside it. Was being the operative word.

Williams taps his badge, "Williams to Security, have you located Mr. Rogers yet?

"No sir, we're still looking, sir. What do we do with him when we find him, sir?"

Poole examines the case once more, then snaps it shut. She looks around and spots Ensign Tyler. "You must be Ensign Tyler.... Can you explain to me why you let a civilian walk into the science labs, specifically this one?"

Accolon enters the lab from comotion outside, looking a bit flustered. "Oh dear." He says, hearing Poole, "I was planning on have security increased in this area."

Williams says "Take him to Security and hold him there until I arrive."

Tyler looks to the floor. "He cuh-came in by huh-himself. I wuh-walked around the artifact and thuh-th-there he wuh-was."

Williams looks at Poole, "I'm going back to the mall to direct the search personally sir."

"Sir, we've got him. Taking him to security now."

Williams walks towards the door, "Williams to Security, check the computer for any transporter activity in the last hour."

Accolon turns toward Poole, questions on his face. Then he begins glancing around, trying to peice together what's happened.

Williams stops and turns back to Poole, "My people have Mr. Rogers in custody and he will await your pleasure in the Security Station sir."

Williams says "Williams to Security, acknowledged, on my way."

Poole looks to Accolon, "There was an explosion in the mall, outside of Mr. Rogers' store. It looks like an assasination attempt.... then the doors to the labs are locked out from the turbolift, and Mr. Rodger shows up in the lab here....."

Tyler won't meet Poole's accusatory gaze, she just looks to the floor.

Accolon folds his hands behind his back, nodding thoughtfully. "Is anything missing?" He asks.

Williams walks over to Tyler, "Please come with me Ensign Tyler, I will need to ask you a few questions."

Poole eyes Tyler again, "Ensign, I'm leaving you in the custody of Ensign Williams here." She looks to Accolon, "I don't know. Care to come with me to the questioning?"

Tyler blinks in surprise. "Wuh-what?! I duh-didn't do anything!"

Williams gently places a hand on Tyler's arm.

Williams says "I know, but I need to learn what happened, I'm just going to ask you some questions, then you can have the rest of the day off."

Williams smiles.

Tyler's eyes well up and she bursts into a torrent of tears.

Williams leads Tyler towards the door while consoling her, then nods to a security woman right outside the door.

Accolon walks over toward one of the labratory consoles, gauging if the containment field had been tampered with around the anomalous crystal. He says, "If you'll allow me one moment, Leiutenant. Damn. I've had this feeling something would happen around this thing. I just didn't think it would be this soon. This crystal could be quite valuable."

Williams and Tyler leave the confines of Lab 2.

Williams has left.

Tyler has left.

"Indeed it would." She waits while Accolon checks on the sample. "I can't make heads nor tails of all the things that have happened within the last hour, but I'm starting to piece together something...."

Accolon nods and seems satisfied at the console. He turns and walks to Poole's side to follow her.

Station Security - Station 419 - [IC]
The station security office is somewhat spacious, though spartan. A large curving desk dominates one half of the room, usually occupied by an on-duty officer. Much of the desk's angled surface is occupied by built-in monitors displaying various public areas of the station and internal sensor readouts. Below these is an illuminated controls console of standard Federation design. Although the lighting is sufficient, the muted blue-grey walls serve to soften it, creating a calming effect. The deck is covered in a dark grey rubberized material rather than the usual carpeting. The desk's angle is such that it is perpendicular to the path of anyone passing through on their way to the holding cell area. Just behind the desk is a narrow doorway.

Accolon arrives from the mall, the office's transparent aluminum doors sliding silently closed behind him.
Accolon has arrived.

Poole walks in with Accolon, a stern look on her face. She glances through the holding cells.

Tyler is leaning against the wall, bawling. She covers her face with her hands.

Accolon comments, "Nothing was missing, or tampered with in the labratory, it would seem." He frowns as he gazes on Tyler. "Lieutenant, you can't do that."

Williams arrives from the mall, the office's transparent aluminum doors sliding silently closed behind him.
Williams has arrived.

Accolon comments, "Nothing was missing, or tampered with in the labratory, it would seem." He frowns as he gazes on Tyler. "Lieutenant Poole, you can't do that."

Poole blinks at Accolon, "I can't do what? Look for Mr. Rogers? I'm afraid I can, and I will...." She looks pretty frustrated now, "To think I trusted him."

Williams walks over to the desk and glances at the screens.

Poole looks over at Williams, "Where is he?"

Williams glances up, "Cell 2 sir."

Tyler sniffles a bit. She wipes her swollen eyes and looks about at the all the people. She turns a bright shade of pink. Crying in front of her CO. If only she could blast herself out of the nearest airlock.

Poole shakes her head, "Calm... we're just asking her about what happened." She looks to Williams, "I'd like to speak with Mr. Rogers."

Williams walks over and leads Tyler to a seat at the desk.

Williams says "Yes sir, I'll get him."

Accolon nods to Poole, trusting she knows what she's doing. As he glances toward Tyler, he blinks, surprised by her.

Tyler is led, rather easily. She plops down and sniffles twice. "Oh-oh-ohkay," she says hesitantly.

Williams walks towards the cells, slinging the rifle over his shoulder.

Williams heads into the holding cell area, the heavily reinforced door sliding up into the bulkhead at his approach.

Williams has left.

Accolon asks, "Do we have a file on Mr. Rogers? The explosion, and subsequent activity in Lab 2 sounds to me like a planned distraction, part of a conspiracy."

Tyler sniffles a bit.

Poole nods, "No doubt Ensign Williams has already looked at it... he's in charge of the investigation for now. I'm just verifying that the sample in the lab is okay, the civilians that were hurt were taken care of, and that the store on the mall is repaired."

There was some minor structural damage to the outside of a barber shop, but nothing major. Only one civilian wounded: Minos.

Accolon turns toward Tyler "What did you say you were doing in the lab, Ensign?" He asks, probably motivated by concern for the anomalous crystal.

Tyler says "I wuh-was running an analysis on the artifact's capability to absorb Guh-gamma radiation."

Jimmy arrives from the holding cell area, the heavily reinforced door sliding down slowly behind him.

Jimmy has arrived.

Williams arrives from the holding cell area, the heavily reinforced door sliding down slowly behind him.

Williams has arrived.

Poole has a frown on her face as she regards Jimmy, "Mr. Rogers... you've got some explaining to do."

Tyler is, in fact, assigned to the lab. Her service record, if pulled up, indicates she is one of Starfleet's top experts in temporal mechanics.

Jimmy comes out of the holding cell area holding up his hands and glancing over his shoulder at the big guy with the rifle every second or so. "Hey, don't look at me Lieutenant, I ain't got a clue what's goin' on!" And he doesn't look like he has, either.

"Want to tell me what you were doing in the science labs? That's a restricted area." Gwen moves to stand just a foot or so away from Jimmy, her face rather stern.... a total opposite from when they were talking pleasantly earlier.

The security grid on level three was offline shortly after the explosion. Accounting for why the turbolifts were nonfunctional to. As to why? That's unexplained.

Tyler looks over to Accolon.

Jimmy glances past Poole to Tyler, oh he looks hurt alright. "Wendy! Tell 'em! I got stuck in the freakin' turbolift!" He shake shis head, he isn't a happy bunny, that much is evident.

Accolon turns toward Jimmy, giving the man his full attention. His eyes are keen, perceptive and thoughtful looking and he folds his hands behind his back.

Tyler nods to Jimmy, but doesn't say anything. She's not been addressed by her CO.

Gwen's eyebrows lift, she questions him again, "Okay... okay... I want to know what you and that man did after leaving the Neutral Zone... Don't leave anything out." That last bit she says word by word, making them seem harsh.

Williams walks over to the desk.

Jimmy sucks his teeth. "Me and uh, whats his name? Mison? The uh, big guy with the Klingon lover? That guy?" He asks, scratching his chin. He's clearly trying to be cooperative, but he's had a rough day. Week. Month. Life?

"Infirmary to Ensign Williams."

Lt. Poole looks away and forcefully calms herself, "Go on, Mr. Rogers."

Williams says "This is Williams. Go ahead."

"Your patient is fine. Shall I dismiss him and his.. friend?"

Williams says "Not yet Infirmary, I will send a security team to get them."

"Understood. Infirmary out."

Jimmy nods and clears his throat. "He is one weird guy, lemme tell ya. Wanna know what he wanted? Of all things? A freakin' station 419 T-Shirt." He shakes his head and chuckles dryly. "I tried ter talk him out of it, it won't look much cop on 'im, but he had his mind made up." He shrugs. "He paid, left, and I got into the turbolift to go take a shower, then more stuff started exploding." He sighs.

Williams looks thoughtful.

Minos arrives from the mall, the office's transparent aluminum doors sliding silently closed behind it.

Minos has arrived.

Jimmy nods to Minos as he comes in. "Hey, how's the T-Shirt? See what trouble you've got me in here?" He smirks and stamps his feet.

Williams says "Mr. Rogers, do you own a small glossy black case?"

Minos steps in with the Klingon in tow. Kyla is nowhere to be seen. "I /demand/ to know why I am being detained!"

Accolon glances toward Minos as he enters, commenting, "Rather suave looking fellow to want something so trivial as a T-Shirt with a station logo."

Williams looks at Minos with a frown.

Poole watches Minos enter, then says to him, "Patience. Please take a seat. We only want to ask you a few questions."

Williams says "You were involved in an explosion on a Starfleet Station in which a member of Starfleet was killed Mr. Lynar, or should I say Mr. Minos Evanginor."

Williams pulls up a video - of right outside Jimmy's shop. Minos walks out, followed by the Klingon. A few moments later, Jimmy emerges. Minos tarries at a kiosk, looking at jewelry as Jimmy passes. Minos bent down at the last minute, narrowly avoiding a locater bomb that zips his way and explodes.

Minos crosses his arms and stands there, glaring at Williams.

Williams watches the video carefully.

Accolon watches the video, then turns toward Poole, "Leiutenant Poole, if you've no need of me, I'll return to the science lab."

Poole nods to Accolon, "Please double check the sample's status, just to be sure."

Jimmy raises his eyebrows at the footage. "Geeze, so -that's- what that explosion was?" He asks, shaking his head. "That got m stuck in the damn turbolift and into this huge pile o' trouble." He doesn't mean to speak out of term, really he doesn't. But he does.

Tyler sniffles.

Accolon nods the affirmative and turns, walking out, glancing back toward Minos as he leaves.

Accolon heads out of the station security office, the transparent aluminum doors sliding open at his approach.
Accolon has left.

Williams taps a screen on the desk.

Poole looks over to Williams, wondering what he is doing. "Mr. Rogers... please remain quiet. At least until we sort all the information out."

Jimmy doesn't speak out again, not just yet anyway.

Williams continues tapping screens, "Looking for possible means of entry for the bomb sir."

Minos taps his foot, awaiting Williams and Poole to get their act together.

Williams says "Perhaps you would be more comfortable in a holding cell, Mr. Evanginor."

Minos looks over to Williams. "You'll have to charge me with a crime. I'd like to know what crime I have committed."

Williams says "Do you have any theories about who might have sent that bomb after you?"

Minos laughs. "Who /doesn't/ want to kill me?"

Williams says "That's not what I asked you sir."

Minos dismisses it with a wave. "It's not the first. It won't be the last."

Tyler sniffles.

Poole just looks on, listening intently. She's obviously trying not to explode all over Minos.

Minos's eyes cooly regard Williams. "Even if I knew who it was, I wouldn't press charges."

Williams says "You wouldn't need to sir, detonating a bomb aboard a Starfleet station is a serious crime, we will pursue the matter with or without your help."

Minos says "Then I am free to leave."

"Yes... well, one such as yourself with such a reputation wouldn't want to call that much attention to yourself." Gwen mutters, then moves over to Williams. "Ensign, let me see that video again..."

Williams says "I can and will have you detained here in protective custody until I can arrange for your expulsion from this station."

Tyler looks up toward Poole. "Cuh-can I guh-go, suh-suh-sir?" she stammers.

Williams taps the screen to display the vidoe again.

Minos sneers. "I can leave on my shuttle now, if you wish it."

Williams says "Not until we sweep it for more possible bombs sir."

Williams smiles.

"How was he able to duck down, just as the bomb goes off?" Gwen looks to Williams, "Doesn't that look strange?"

Williams nods, while staring at Minos.

Jimmy keeps quiet, he's in enough trouble by the looks of it, whether it's anything to do with him or not.

Minos says "I lead a charmed existance, it seems."

Gwen sighs, looking at the video again. "If I didn't know any better, I'd say he knew that the bomb was there."

Tyler tentatively looks to Poole. "Suh-sir?"

Poole looks back at Tyler, "Report directly to your quarters.... take the rest of the day off."

Minos shouts, "Perposterous! I was injured in that blast!"

Tyler winces at Minos' outburst. She quickly gathers herself and slips out the door.

Tyler heads out of the station security office, the transparent aluminum doors sliding open at her approach.
Tyler has left.

Williams says "That is a very old method of misdirection sir."

Minos crosses his arms. "I demand legal counsel, if you intend to hold me here."

Williams says "However, no-one is accusing you, Lt. Poole was just making an observation."

Williams says "Certainly, however it really wont help...you're not charged with anything."

Williams says "I am keeping you here for safety sir...yours and the stations."

Jimmy looks over to Poole in a state of obvious mild shock. "They ain't keepin' me here are they? I got stuff to do!"

"Engineering to Williams."

Poole nods and looks again at the video, "I think that's a good idea, Ensign Williams, we'd best keep him here until we can be sure he can leave safely."

Williams looks at Jimmy.

Williams says "Your orders about the civilian Lt?"

Williams says "This is Williams, go ahead."

"We've been going over your bomb. It seems it was a pheremonal-based targeting system, activated to Mr. Lynar's scent. It also seems to have had some sort of cloaking technology installed."

Poole sighs to herself again, looking over at Jimmy. "He can go... " She gives Jim a dirty look, "Just make sure you are either in your quarters or in your store... in case we need to speak with you."

Williams says "Acknowledged Engineering, please try to find out how it arrived on the station and I will do the same from here....out."

Williams taps a screen.

Williams says "You are barred from leaving the station until this matter is cleared up Mr. Rogers."

Jimmy brushes past the door on his way out. "Yeah, whatever, Lieutenant." He scowls as he goes.

Jimmy heads out of the station security office, the transparent aluminum doors sliding open at his approach.
Jimmy has left.

Minos continues to stand there with his Klingon.

Williams nods to a security officer, "Please show Mr. Evanginor and his friend to their room."

Minos is escorted out of the room by security. He's none too happy about having to be forced to stay, but is clearly cooperating.

Williams sits at the desk and begings tapping screens.

Williams continues tapping screens, watching the displays carefully. It seems that the bombs are manufactured on Ferenginar by a list of manufacturers a mile long.

Poole stands just behind Williams, watching him work and also thinking to herself.

Williams frowns.

"Engineering to Williams."

Williams says "Williams to Security, please retrieve Mr. Lynar's female companion from the Neutral Zone and bring her to the Security Station. Go ahead Engineering."

"This is Lt. Andrews, sir. I'm on my way up to show you something." says the voice from Engineering.

The security team leaves for the Zone, and returns with Kyla a few moments later.

Williams says "Acknowledged Lt."

Williams looks up from the screens and smiles warmly at Kyla.

Williams motions to a seat next to him.

Williams says "Please sit down Kyla."

Gwen finds a seat nearby, watching both Williams and Kyla. She is still going over events in her mind, making up a report as it were.... to submit to the Commander.

Kyla comes in quietly, looking around. "Is everything okay?" she asks. She offers a smile to Poole, a polite one. Something quite more than polite to Williams though. Of raw sex.

Williams says "Do you still have that case Lt?"

Williams blushes and turns back to his screens.

Williams says "Not really Kyla, a bomb went off...apparently in an attempt to kill your....master."

Williams frowns.

Williams turns to Poole, "May I see that black case sir, I want to run it through the computer."

Poole walks over and hands the case back to Williams. "Here."

Williams accepts the case and sets it on the desk.

Williams takes his tricorder from his belt and scans the case.

Kyla ohs softly.

Kyla says "Chris... Can I.. Can I talk to you a moment?"

Williams glances up at Kyla, "What is it Kyla?"

Kyla moves toward the door to the cells. "Privately?"

Poole walks back to her seat, resuming her thought processes.

Williams checks the tricorder, then nods.

Williams stands and pulls Kyla over near the door.

Kyla ushers him through.

Kyla heads into the holding cell area, the heavily reinforced door sliding up into the bulkhead at its approach.
Kyla has left.

Williams heads into the holding cell area, the heavily reinforced door sliding up into the bulkhead at his approach.
Williams has left.

Holding Cells - Station 419 - [IC]
This short yet wide corridor is featureless and spartan save for three faintly glowing open archways extending along one wall at even three meter intervals. Although the lighting is sufficient, the muted blue-grey walls serve to soften it, creating a calming effect. The deck is covered in a dark grey rubberized material rather than the usual carpeting.

Kyla takes Ensign Williams' hands in her own. "Chris, I want to be with you."

Williams smiles a bit. "You want to request asylum, then?"

Kyla asks him, "Will I be yours?"

Williams frowns, looking into her eyes. "You will be free. The Federation doesn't have slaves."

Kyla looks to him, then reaches up and touches his cheek. "I will ask for Asylym if I can be with you. I love you."

Williams' frown blossoms into a smile. "And I love you, Kyla."

Meanwhile, in the next room..

Andrews arrives from the mall, the office's transparent aluminum doors sliding silently closed behind him.
Andrews has arrived.

Poole looks up as Lt. Andrews shows up, she stands and says, "Lieutenant. What have you found?"

Andrews steps inside, carrying a tray of the fragments of bomb. "Sir, I've got report you're going to want to see."

Poole nods and walks closer, "Okay."

Andrews runs a forensics tricorder over the bomb fragment. It picks up trace-amounts of biomatter. He shows it to you - it's a partial fingerprint.

Poole blinks, "A fingerprint? Have you matched it yet?" She looks Andrew's in the eyes.

Andrews plugs it into the computer. "Computer. Analyze fingerprint."

The computer, in that familiar female voice: "The fingerprint is twenty percent complete."

"Computer, is there a match to this fingerprint in the database?" Gwen asks.

"The fingerprint is too fragmented for a positive identification."

Andrews says, "Computer, can you extract any information from the fingerprint?"

"Orion. 90% probablity of being female."

Poole stirs immediately, moving almost without thinking. She grabs her phaser, then heads for the holding cell. "Lt.... I could use your help."

Andrews nods and follows.

The two officers head into the holding cell area, the heavily reinforced door sliding up into the bulkhead at your approach.

Andrews has arrived.

Andrews comes in, weilding a phaser.

Poole bursts in with Lt. Andrews right behind her, she has her phaser in her hands and shouts, "Ensign, step away from Kyla."

Kyla is wrapped in Williams' arms, kissing him.

Williams smiles broadly, "Computer, please record that at <current date and time> Kyla asked for admittance to the United Federation of PLanets and requested asylum."

Williams turns with a confused look.

Williams says "Sir?"

Poole shouts, "computer, belay that order..."

Williams frowns.

Williams says "May I ask why sir?"

Poole looks to Williams, "Step away from the girl."

Williams glances at Kyla, then back at Poole.

Poole aims her phaser carefully at Kyla. "Do as I say, Ensign.... that's an order."

Kyla looks confused, then understanding comes over her features. She steps away from Williams carefully so as he doesn't get hurt.

Williams looks back and forth with a frown.

Andrews looks to Poole, still aiming his phaser at Kyla.

Kyla says "Chris, I love you."

"Ensign Williams, Lieutenant Andrews here found traces of biomatter on the bomb fragments.... Orion, 90% probability of being female." She frowns and says, "Computer.... Are there any other Orion females onboard the station?"

"Negative," reports the computer.

Williams frowns at Kyla, "You set off the bomb?"

Kyla nods slowly. "I did."

Gwendolyn looks at Williams purposefully, she holds her tongue, waiting for Kyla to speak.

Williams narrows his eyes, "All you had to do was ask me for asylum...."

Williams says "Instead, you killed one of my team."

Kyla looks down to her hands. "I know. I'm sorry, Chris."

Williams shakes his head, "And I didn't see it..."

Kyla keeps her head down. She doesn't meet his eyes.

Andrews lowers his phaser as it seems Kyla isn't putting up resistance.

Williams leans against the wall and slides down to a sitting position.

Williams says "I will relieve myself of duty Lt. I allowed personal feelings to get in the way of my duty."

Williams looks up at Kyla sadly.

Kyla says "This is the way we do things on my world, Chris. I didn't mean for your friend to be injured."

Williams says "You are not on your world Kyla, you are in mine...and you could have stayed."

"Ensign. I'm placing Kyla under arrest for the attempted assassination of her master... " Gwen lowers her phaser also.

Williams says "And Minos will once again go free...."

Kyla keeps looking at the floor. "I'm sorry Chris." She looks up to Poole. "I will not resist you."

Poole and Andrews escorts Kyla into Cell Three and activates the forcefield. Kyla just looks at the floor.

Williams heads out to the main room of Station Security.

Poole exits the holding cell area, the heavily reinforced door sliding up into the bulkhead at her approach.

You say "If you can find some more evidence on Minos... maybe even get Kyla to give you information...."

Williams nods without looking up from the desk, "I will have someone talk to Kyla...I can't...sir"

Poole nods. "Do what you feel is best Ensign."

Williams says "Yes sir."

Williams continues typing....

"Ensign... I'm sorry for what has happened... But she did this to herself." Gwen shakes her head, "If she helps us, maybe the charges on her can be toned down a little."

Williams nods slowly.

Williams says "I will turn command over Security over to the next in line until Lt. Surais returns and decides what to do with me sir."

Poole rolls her eyes, "Ensign. You've done nothing wrong. Just take the rest of your shift off, and think about what's happened."

Williams nods numbly.
