  As a whole, Bajoran citizens tend to be somewhat to very xenophobic and 
  protective of their religious beliefs. They often view the atheistic/agnostic
  UFP ideals and the religions of other races with anything from mild 
  apprehension to disdain and even, in extreme cases, hatred. This is due to
  the fact that Bajorans as a people clung to their religion as a pillar of 
  strength during the Cardassian Occupation, and many Bajorans still credit 
  Kai Opaka's spiritual guidance with turning the tide in favor of the Bajoran
  Resistance.

  Bajorans abroad in the Federation have often learned at least a measure of
  tolerance as a social survival skill.
