  Regulations

The bulk of Starfleet regulations deal with specific duties and situation,
such as the use of communications during battle and the use of sensors upon
encountering an unknown vessel. Regulations also cover duty functions such
as the required radiation safety levels in engineering and the minimum
number of life pods on board on a starship. (Because of the specific nature
of regulations there are far to many to list here.) Failure to follow
regulations may result in disciplinary action unless the commanding officer
deems the infraction necessary. Reductions in rank or formal reprimands are
the common responses to violating a regulation.
