economics 02Nov15
We do not have a coded economy. However, we do follow a thematic economic
model. We'll give a (rather silly) example for the way it works.
The Klingon Tar'huQ wants to open a floral shop. He makes arrangement with
the station for space on the mall. In a few weeks, he has a flower shop where
he lovingly tends and sells his flowers. The shop's name is Tar'huQ's Flower
Arrangement Victory.
Ensign Tyler stops by Tar'huQ's shop to pick up flowers for Lt. Redshirt who
got shot on the last mission. She walks in, selects her flowers, banters with
the burly Klingon, and walks out without handing over a dime (or a credit).

Meanwhile, Tar'huQ adds one bouquet of lilies to his invoice that he will
produce to the Starfleet operators of the station at the end of his fiscal
period. Starfleet reviews the invoice, checks it against their records,
deducts space 'rental', power consumption, etc, and returns the remainder
to the Klingon. He can choose to have this returned to him in two ways.
The first way is back in Federation credit. The other way is an amount of
latinum or other form of currency. If Tar'huQ owes money, he will most likely
pay in latinum or can do something else for the station to get his credit
back up to par.
