courage 03Mar19

Courage points are a pool of points that you can use to give your character
an edge during a situation. You can spend a courage point at any time, but
there are several rules governing their use.

o You can spend 1 courage point per scene to achieve advantage on a contest
or group of contests, until that scene ends or changes. A change in scene
occurs when you leave a room (even if you leave and come back), or writer
informs you that it has changed. See 'news advantage'.

o You may spend a courage point to overcome a non-physical flaw. For
instance, if you are Intolerant of Romulans, you may spend a courage to
temporarily keep your opinions to yourself. You can spend this courage
on top of any courage you have spent to achieve advantage.

o You may spend a courage point to avoid an in-character action that could
have serious repercussions and reign in the character. For example, it
may be in your character's intentions and motivations to free a prisoner
from the brig. Doing so would get your character in major trouble, so
spending a courage point allows for discretion to be the better part of
valor, and your character can resist taking that action.

o In contests where two characters are contesting against each other, and
both characters spend courage points, neither gets advantage for the
contests, unless one of the characters has some sort of merit that would
      allow for it.

o If you are at disadvantage for some reason (due to a flaw, or due to a
situation), spending a courage will not give advantage, it will simply
level the playing field. Disadvantage + Courage = No Advantage/No disad-
      vantage.

o If someone uses a social skill against you (such as Intimidation, or
Command or Charm), you can spend a courage point to ignore the effects.

o You can spend courage points to ignore (in the short-term) effects of
injury (or being stunned by a phaser).

o If you have advantage due to a merit, and your opponent spends courage to
'level the field', you can spend courage to gain advantage again.

o Courage refreshes at 1 point per 24 hours.
