It it the responsibility of an IC Mission Commander of a Starfleet Mission or
other incident to submit an After Action Report, or AAR. This report should
detail the happenings of the incident for Senior Command's review. Personal
opinions should be sparing and professionalism should be maintained: there
are IC consequences for not filing a timely AAR or filing one which does not
meet the standards Starfleet sets for its officers' conduct.

'news aar2' is a sample After Action Report.

  WARNING: It is very spammy.

  After Action Report: Stardate 53454.4

Objectives: Recover Starfleet probe; investigate subspace distortions near
  Romulan Neutral Zone

  Commanding Officer: CDR Ghorev, Akeen

Primary Personnel: LT Alarcon, Isabel (EXecutive Officer); LT Havaris Kusto
(Chief Operations Officer); LT Laco, Phillip (Chief Science Officer/Chief
  Engineering Officer); LTJG Harris, Robert S. (Chief Navigation Officer);
ENS Nilee, Galen (Staff Science Officer)

Allied/Starfleet vessels: USS Thomas Paine, Brilliant Class Light Escort
(NCC-65530-C); USS Exeter, Constitution Class (Refit) Heavy Cruiser
  (NCC-1672)

  Threat Vessels: Unknown, Shrike Class Heavy Cruiser (Romulan Star Empire);
Unknown (3x), Jem'Hadar Fast Attack Craft

  Mission Summary:

Thomas Paine was requested to locate a probe identified by USS Champion that
displayed some rather unique temporal characteristics -- broadcasting an
eighty-year-old Starfleet identifier beacon, but having a chronometric
signature indicating that its launch was less than three hours hold.
Champion was unable to investigate due to a priority assignment.

Thomas Paine inadvertantly found itself in an area of space which was, for
lack of a better term, a compressed 'dimple' of space-time where three
seperate relativistic timestreams were thrown into direct contact with one
another. The first time stream originated in late 2293 (approximately
Stardate 9598). Two vessels from that time -- an unidentified Romulan
Shrike-class Heavy Cruiser and the Constitution-class USS Exeter (NCC-1672)
encountered a temporal anomaly which displaced both vessels to the the year
2374 (Stardate 51116.4). This introduced three Jem'Hadar Fast Attack Craft
into the situation, as the Dominion War was still ongoing at this time. The
final timestream originated from 2376 (Stardate 53454.5) and included USS
  Thomas Paine.

The first outward indication of a problem was a report from ENS Nilee that he
was reading a large number of subspace irregularities in the area. LTJG
Harris then reported lag from his commands to the helm to the actual response
of the ship. LT Laco reported the failure of the main deflector to screen out
particle radiation. At that time, CDR Ghorev ordered the ship to come to all
  stop.

As LT Laco worked in conjunction with CDR Ghorev and LT Alarcon to counteract
the effects of the radiation, LT Havaris reported active scanning from an
unknown source, using patterns which were outdated -- communications also
indicated that there was at least one active subspace transmitter in the
area. After several moments, LT Havaris indicated that he was recieving
feedback from multiple vessels, and LTJG Harris notified CDR Ghorev that he
was recieving a distress signal but was unable to ascertain the source until
a secondary transmission was recieved, identifying the source of the signal
  as USS Exeter.

It should be noted at this time that LTJG Harris is a temporal refugee; his
previous posting was to the aforementioned USS Exeter as Chief Navigation
Officer. He was the lone survivor of the vessel's destruction, retrieved by
USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-E) along with the Shuttlecraft Princeton.

CDR Ghorev ordered a priority sensor search from flight control. LTJG Harris
was unable to locate the Exeter, but did manage to lock onto the Romulan
vessel, which was closing on the Thomas Paine on an attack run. LT Havaris
(who had assumed the tactical station) reported reading polaron signatures
consistant with Jem'Hadar attack craft from aft. Battlestations were ordered.

Thomas Paine was engaged first by the Romulan vessel. Tactical destroyed the
incoming weapons fire, then disabled the Romulan weapons array, followed
immediately by a crippling blow to one of the Dominion vessels. The Jem'Hadar
engaged the Romulans and the Thomas Paine; the Shrike-class cruiser, a
century outdated, was destroyed in the first volley. LT Havaris then
  destroyed another Dominion vessel.

In accordance with General Order 157, CDR Ghorev was forced to allow at least
one of the Jem'Hadar vessels to engage the Exeter and destroy it to preserve
the preferred timeline as detailed by Enterprise logs. CPT Riley, CO of USS
Exeter, signalled Thomas Paine to disengage and flee while he distracted the
Threat vessel. As a result, USS Exeter was lost with all hands.

After field repairs were made to the Thomas Paine, ENS Nilee deduced a way to
leave the space-time 'dimple'. Thomas Paine recovered USS Exeter's disaster
log buoy and returned to Station 419-U.

Mission Results: The compressed area of space-time has been noted on
Federation star charts as the 'Riley Convergance', as ordered by CDR Ghorev.
USS Exeter's log buoy was recovered and is currently undergoing decryption
and information analysis. USS Thomas Paine put in for repairs at Station
419-U, having sustained damage in the engagement.
                                                                 Top: starfleet
