Tera Turtledove

Rank: Lieutenant JG

Species: Human (Earth, Starborn)

Position: Armory Officer

Summary:

2353: Born on a space transport to Sephia Turtledove, a Federation civilian native to Rome. Sephia is a wanderer, hopping from colony to colony --- they spend most of their time on transports.

2357: The USS Potemkin responds to a distress call from a small merchant vessel outside the Turkana system. Tera and her mother are transported aboard for the birth of Robin, Tera’s first and only sibling.

2364: Tera reports a break-and-enter on Qualor II, in which her mother and sister are killed by a Nausicaan transient. She reports killing the Nausicaan in self-defense. She is integrated into the Federation and introduced to the concept of school in the retired mining colony of New New Jersey. She is an avid learner and applies to Starfleet Academy as soon as she reaches the appropriate age.

2371: Accepted into Starfleet Academy. Early into her first year, she shows all of the characteristics of a promising future leader --- that is, until she is detained by the local constabulary for brawling off-campus. For conduct unbecoming a Starfleet cadet, she is docked privileges and assigned community service. Her behavior appears to improve sharply, but towards the end of the year she is implicated in another, smaller-scale incident, for which she is, summarily, docked points towards her final examinations and assigned community service. She otherwise steals the Poker Championship title and participates actively in extra-curricular athletics.

2372: Largely because of her misconduct, her application to Command studies in her second year is denied. She declares intention to specialize in Security, and appears to enjoy her studies. She continues to contribute athletically, excelling at strategic sports and maintaining her exulted standing as Academy Poker Champion.

2373: Late in her third year, she is, again derided for conduct unbecoming, but the evidence against her is limited, so she is not removed from her curriculum, but is, instead, docked privileges, points towards her final examinations, and assigned community service.

2374: Before leaving on her cadet cruise, she is awarded her last SFA Poker Championship medal, an all-around fitness award, a merit badge for attending the Paresi Square Championship finals, and an honorable mention for 2nd place finish in the Marksmanship finals. Her cadet cruise is served aboard the USS Tiananmen, where she manages to contribute somewhat to the morale of a war-time crew.

2375: Graduates from Starfleet Academy and is assigned to Station 419-U, Junior Security. A spirited officer, she fits in well. She receives a brevet promotion within months of arriving.

2375: Following a badly-conducted arrest in the Neutral Zone, LTJG Turtledove is detained in a holding cell for a week. Her brevet promotion is rescinded.

2376: For skillful action and bravery beyond the call of duty during the Dominion raids of 2376, Ensign Turtledove is granted a commendation, and awarded the Federation Medal of Valor. She is granted another brevet rank, and promoted to the position of Armory Officer. Along with the rest of her fellow s419 officers, she receives a Presidential Unit Citation for unity of the crew during the Dominion raids of 2376.

2376: Continued outstanding service to Starfleet earns her a Distinguished Service Star, awarded by Captain Balin on Stardate 52636.6.

2376: Decoration given by CAPT Tarsis Balin on 53235.0: Battle Of Occa.

2376: Her brevet promotion is made permanent by Commander Ghorev on Stardate 53681.3.

2377: She settles into her duties as armory officer, and contributes happily to Station life.

2378: During the time period perceived by the regular crew of Station 419 as the Lithian invasion and timeloop collapse, she is off-station in the 'new' timeline --- having been granted shore-leave on Dulcais Prime, along with her associate LTJG Hiroshi Takamura. She and Takamura are part of the 'new' galaxy. Integration initially proceeds poorly for Turtledove. She remains open-minded however, and optimistic, prepared to embrace the possible future events that await on the 'new' Station 419-U.

Proficiencies: LTJG Turtledove is a capable Security officer. As Armory Officer, she is trained in equipment repair and general design, from personal equipment to energy weapons. Cross-trained in Security, Tactical, and Weapons shipboard systems, she also has experience in their repair. During the war, preceding the cease-fire, she proved herself capable in small-unit battle situations. In spite of a recent unruly past, she seems to have returned to a path as a promising young officer, suited to high-pressure situations, and capable of co-ordinating resources toward successful away missions. As her Academy performance might indicate, she is an avid gamer, and unbeknownst to some, one of the most devious Poker players in the sector.

Deficiencies: LTJG Turtledove is, alas, intolerant of Nausicaans. While she is generally even-tempered, her record contains counselor's statements indicating that she has, in the past, made a conscious choice to escalate conflicts beyond a necessary point, for whatever reason. She has a gambling problem that she appears to indulge with random frequency. She is personable --- however, she does not form friendships lightly, and is not generally known for her romantic endeavors.
