Summary:

2350: Randal is born to Roger and Amanda Thorne, operators of the Federation Liberty-class transport SS Ace of Hearts.

2369: The Federation transport SS Ace of Hearts is confirmed destroyed by the USS Normandy approximately 1.8 lightyears from the Delta Aquira system after a Cardassian raid on the nearby colony. Initially, it was believe that the crew of the ship (Roger and Amanda Thorne, and their son Randal) had all died. It was later confirmed that Randal Thorne had been rescued by the SS Red Pulsar.

2370: The SS Red Pulsar becomes an ally of the Maquis, although the only incidences they are linked to are raids on Cardassian resources. Randal Thorne is believed to be a member of the crew during this time.

2372: It is believed that Randal Thorne becomes captain of the SS Red Pulsar after its former Captain Destara and several officers perish during the Krosis Incident, which exposed the Obsidian Order's intent to develop a potent mind-altering drug on their own civilian populace. (Further information is classified.) Later that year, Captain Randal Thorne apparently severs ties with the Maquis and begins raiding Klingon supply lines during their invasion of the Cardassian Union. During this time, he is known to operate through Federation space but has not been tied to any incidences of piracy against Federation vessels.

2374: The SS Red Pulsar is spotted in several core systems of the Federation. Reports indicate that Captain Thorne aided evacuees during the Dominion invasion of Betazed by flying escort for several refugee transports. There is also a recorded comminique sent by Thorne to the Starfleet starbase at Deneva, warning them of an imminent Dominion attack. Although he is considered a renegade, efforts to apprehend Randal Thorne and the Red Pulsar are given low priority in light of the war effort.

2375: The SS Red Pulsar is sighted in the Dulcais Sector, moving away from Klingon space toward the Romulan Neutral Zone. Within a month's time, Randal has appeared on Starbase 419, although the Red Pulsar never enters the vicinity of the station.
