Nal Tarine
Species: Bajoran
Position: Shop Owner, Station 419
Summary:
Nal Tarine is a Bajoran civilian living on board Station 419 with her
six-year-old son, Arem. She was born Kres Tarine in the city of Jo'Kala in the
Musilla Province of Bajor, and forced into a labor camp with her family in early
childhood. While there, she met Nal Roren, and worked together with him in
executing successful acts of sabotage. The pair was married in 2365 by Kres
Malin, Tarine's older brother and now a Vedek at the Kiessa Monastery, in a
secret ceremony that was beneath the notice of the Cardassian guards. In 2369,
Roren was killed by a Cardassian guard for "insubordination". Angry
and grief-stricken, Nal fled Bajor two months later when the Cardassians were
driven out. Shortly after her departure, she suffered abdominal pains on a
transport vessel, and was shocked to learn she was three months pregnant. When
the transport vessel reaches its destination of Earth, Tarine was delivered of a
son, whom she named Nal Arem. She and her son spent six years living in Canada,
where time and love for her son helped to heal Nal's spirit. During this time,
she discovered a latent talent for creating artistic and practical objects of
pottery, which she used to provide for herself and her son. When he was old
enough, she decided to seize an an opportunity that had been presented to her by
a merchant acquaintance who did a bit of trading in the Dulcais Sector. In 2375,
she and Arem set out for S419. Tarine now operates a successful shop on the
Station's mall level, whimsically dubbed "Tarine's Tureens".
