Havaris Medes Kusto
Rank: Lieutenant
Species: Bajoran
(Homeworld, Shanlaya Dahkur)
Position: Operations Manager
Summary:
2351: Born in Shanlaya, a farming village in the Dahkur Province of Bajor to Havaris Mar and Havaris Palin. Their village kept to the system of D'Jarras, and his own was a peculiar one, in that it was purely Matriarchal, not simply matrileneal. Later this year they are relocated to the Capitol City of B'Laya where Mar, Palin, and the elder siblings of the Havaris family serve as labor at a Cardassian factory. They are occasionally permitted to return to Shanlaya to tend their holdings.
2363: At the age of eleven, he joins a local resistance cell operating within the capitol city. He is one of the youngest known Bajoran to have joined the resistance -- and by that token, one of the youngest to have survived. The next four years of his life are bloody and brutal. His cell is uncovered, many are captured or slain, and the survivors retreat to the countryside to regroup and begin fighting the war from the mountains of Dahkur.
2368: Following the death of his cell's leader in an ambush on a Cardassian patrol, Kusto assumes command at the age of seventeen. He is the last survivor of the original members of his cell.Sensing an end to the war, he returns his cell to B'Laya for the final push.
2369: Bajoran freedom fighters claim the capitol and drive the Cardassians from Bajor. In the final days, his cell sabotages several key installations within the city. Marked for destruction: The weapons factory where his father, Havaris Palin is currently indentured. Over three hundred Bajorans and seventy Cardassians are killed in the blast. Kusto was aware of his father's presence and the presence of the other civilians. He termed their loss 'necessary' when his cell emerged from hiding to work in the formation of the provisional government.
2369: Of his family consisting of two older brothers, one older sister, one younger sister, a father, and a mother, only he, his mother, and his younger sister survive the occupation.
2370: : In late 2369, pending the expectation that he will be charged with war atrocities, Kusto surrenders himself and his cell to Starfleet. The terms of surrender include that he be given amnesty within the Federation and admission to Starfleet Academy with a sealed record. The details of his conduct upon Bajor are stricken from his record, and he becomes one of the first Bajoran Starfleet Cadets to arrive after the occupation. He arrives on earth in time to begin classes in the fall term of 2370.
2372: After three years of unremarkable performance grade wise and extraordinary performance in hands on matters, he is given an inauspicious Cadet Cruise aboard a low warp Science Vessel studying the subspace distortions caused by prolonged high warp at the edge of Earth's Solar System. His violent tendencies, bitter temper, and closed demeanor win him no friends. His efficiency and dedication to duty earn him the respect of his Captain. He will graduate an unremarkable 205th in his class, having made note of himself only so far as one considers Parisi Squares championships note worthy.
2373: Upon graduation he is assigned to serve a security post aboard Norway Class Patrol Vessel USS Antietam. He sees his first Jem'Hadar. As he had many Cardassians in the past, he kills it. This becomes a comfortable trend. As before, his taciturn behavior keeps him aloof of much of the crew, but his performance under fire earns him a promotion to Lt. JG and a post as Assistant Chief of Security.
2374: For reasons of his own, he requests a specific transfer. From the USS Antietam to Station 419, Dulcais Sector. There was an opening for a junior officer in Security there, and an empty post for an Assistant Chief of Security. He comes aboard mid year, 2374 and quietly assumes his post.
