Zipok Caeli

Rank: Lieutenant Junior Grade

Species: Bolian (Bola City, Bolarus)

Position: Security Duty Officer

Summary:

2352: Zipok Caeli born into a family of cosmeticians. Zipok liked starships, phasers, and shoot-em-up holoprograms. To his parents’ dismay, he showed no talent whatsoever for cosmetics. If he was a child on Earth hundreds of years ago, he would have been the sort to buy cap guns and go chasing other children around on his parents’ lawn playing Cowboys and Indians.

2370: One of Zipok’s uncles, Tripok Caeli, was a Chief of Security onboard the Intrepid class USS Loyola, and at a family gathering recognized the boy’s penchant for squad-level tactics and his natural flair for personal combat. With a little help from the Loyola’s CO, Captain Robert Kwok, a friend of Tripok’s, the elder Caeli managed to convince the rest of the family against using their legacy to enroll Zipok in the Bolian Cosmetics Academy. Instead, hot on the heels of Captain Kwok’s promotion to Commodore, Tripok had his CO sponsor Zipok to a much different academy: The illustrious Starfleet Academy. Zipok shipped out right after his eighteenth birthday, his heart set on turning the polymer toy phaser on his belt to a real one, idealistic dreams of leading droves of Starfleet Officers to battle defending the corridors of their starships against unknown invaders.

2370-2373: The Academy saw Zipok develop his skills to become a top-notch security officer, but one who performed with mediocrity at best in his other tasks. His flair for tactics and security command in combat situations carried him far, however, and he made quite a name for himself when combat trials came around. He earned the nickname “Zip” from his classmates, half to avoid saying his full name and half to acknowledge the speed with which he operated both on the personal combat mat and in tactics exercises. He was sociable, and made friends easily (not that uncommon among the residents of the Bolarus system), and took a few command courses in addition to his required Security classes.

2374: Senior year, besides adding a fourth thin pip to Caeli’s collar, sent him on a cadet cruise aboard a Defiant class ship, the USS Cafferey, as part of a proportionally large security force as is common onboard Defiant class destroyers. During a survey of system O-361, a disabled Jem’Hadar attack ship was found, and most of the security staff beamed aboard to capture it. A few minutes later, the Jem’Hadar crew beamed aboard the Cafferey, and a firefight ensued for control of the ship. Zipok led a group of five cadets on a trek that took them to the ship’s armory using only three type II phasers, then equipped the party with pulse phaser rifles and proceeded to retake engineering, allowing the newly-freed Chief Engineer to lock out command functions from the bridge (which fell to the Jem’Hadar soon afterwards.) For his part in saving the Cafferey, Zipok’s name was submitted to the Commandant of the Academy for special recognition.

2374-2375: The Academy over and done with, Ensign Caeli spent almost a year and a half on the Cafferey as a junior security officer. He developed a sort of emotional attachment to the ship, and served with the traditional Bolian faithfulness to duty for his entire tour onboard. Only one major incident happened, as the ship was removed from frontline duty after the skirmish during his Academy days, but he handled a few mishaps on the ship without much difficulty.

2375: The Cafferey had been assigned to Antica to try and work out a renewable peace between the Anticans and the Selay, and her captain was on the ground with a security detail. Caeli was the sniper of the detail, stationed on a rooftop a few blocks from where the signing was to occur. While scanning his designated sectors, his scope picked up a heat signature, recognizable as a Selay sniper two floors down and a block down from Caeli. He was lining up the shot when an ally of the unknown sniper found Caeli’s position, and fired a disruptor blast. Zipok took the shot, missing his target but shattering the glass of the window, just as the target fired his own rifle. The energy blast was deflected by the prism effect of the shattered window and the glass incapacitated the Selay gunman until he could be apprehended. Zipok took care of his assailant without much difficulty, shifting his position as all good snipers know how to do and putting a phaser blast into the Selay’s chest. Once it became known to his superiors what had transpired, and in light of his exemplary conduct beforehand, Caeli was awarded the rank of Lieutenant, Junior Grade.

2376: His old uncle Tripok saw an opportunity for him, a vacancy in the Security staff on station Upsilon 419. Tripok, now XO on the Loyola, helped Zipok put in an application for transfer, and with Tripok and Kwok backing the application it went through without a hitch. Zipok left immediately, to take up position as Security Duty Officer on the station.

2376: Zipok is part of the team assigned to make First Contact with the Kunra. Following the successful completion of the mission, Zipok, along with the rest of the members of the team, is awarded the Prantares Ribbon by Federation President Kor himself. Upon the death of Lt. (JG) Dana Rivers, Zipok assumes the temporary position of Assistant Chief of Security until such time as a replacement can be found. Zipok commands the away mission to Teirra that secures evidence of terrorist activities against the Klingon empire.
